Editorially Speaking

There Is Still Time

Greetings to everyone wherever you may be reading this issue of the Miles magazine, indeed the year seems to be at the end, depending on when you are reading but I want you to know that it is never over until the Lord God say’s so.

The only person that can defeat you is you and as long as you remain in the game of life, you stand a very good chance of winning. It is not about what time of the year we are at right now; it’s all about what you are doing to change the situation you currently find yourself in. Looking back at the very beginning of this year, I could not see this stage of the Miles, (Last Issue for the Year), but somehow by cheer persistence and believe in the ability of God to take us through, we arrived at another milestone.

tion that you are going somewhere, always remember that it only takes one second for God to change your situation, just a phone call, a knock on your door, a letter in the mail, a chance meeting with someone and your situation will never be the same. So keep going, keep checking your mail, keep answering your phone calls, your answer is right by the corner.

Tips on winning the battle of life: 1. Meditate On The Positives of Life – avoid spending your time on frivolities. 2. Practice What You Learn – always learn the positives of life and practice them. 3. Always Have Your Bible With You – give it the utmost importance in your life

You have to simply keep going and believe in yourself that He who made you is the one leading you on to your place of destiny, you must find your answers and resources from within you, it’s not an easy thing to do but it is quite simple if you learn to just keep going believing that God has a powerful plan for you.

4. Now make Sure To Instantly Obey Your Inner Voice – some call it conscience

This year might be coming to an end, and it may or may not afford you enough time to achieve that which you set as goal but I want you to remember that time is only a number set either by us or the people around us. What matters the most is that you are alive and what that means is that you will surly achieve your goals if you are determined to push on.

SEASONS GREETINGS FROM ALL OF US AT MILES MAGAZINE

Push on, neglect the distractions and obstacles on your way, they are only a confirma-

7

If you can practice these simple things in life then you will find that suddenly your inner person is being strengthened and fortified against the junks that the world is bound to throw at you.

We wish you the very best of the Christmas and New Year celebrations, you are truly blessed and highly favored, never ever allow your present challenge to dictate how you live your life because it is short and you must make the best out of it. Remain Blessed….

Your Health

Diabetes YOU CAN BEAT IT with Discipline

I was just in my early twenties when during a regular medical check I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, for me it was as if the world had come to an end and I was just passed my life sentence but about twenty something years later I am living a normal life and if I did not tell, you will not know and this is all thanks to my doctor who has made it his personal mission to make sure that I live a long and fulfilled life by God’s grace.

have won the battle 60% and that is why it is so important. How can you know what to eat? Simply plan to visit and meet with a dietician as part of your day to day fight against this deadly disease, do not at any stage rely on information that you grab off the internet because every case is peculiar to the individual. You know with diabetes, it’s not really about what you can or cannot eat but it’s all about what, how much, when and where you can eat.

In my journey through this years, I have discovered through my successes and failures (Medically speaking), that the key is in being able to discipline yourself and accept, understand and determine to religiously follow certain rules and regulations concerning what you eat, do and do not do.

2. Exercise To Burn The Excess Sugar – again, part of the conditions that is called diabetes is the fact that our body is not able to handle the sugar that comes in from our intake of meals per time therefore they become free dangerous radicals which simply attack the livers and other vital organs rendering them non-functional. You must engage in an active life, run from any fatty food as this can lead to excess weight that only transforms to fat that literally destroys the normality of the organs in the body.

I will attempt to bring some of these few rules and regulations concerning the diabetic to you but ultimately I will advise that you make sure to discuss with your family physician as to helping you develop the plan that will best work for you as there are various stages and types of diabetes. 1. You Must Eat Right – this is perhaps the first and most difficult step in the fight to beat diabetes, the person that can discipline themself enough to eat right would

3. Avoid Alcohol As Much As Possible this is bad even for the non-diabetic, and do not get me wrong many often confront me with the questions and suggestions that alcohol is not bad, I always tell them that it is a matter of opinion but I know that if you are diabetic then you are definitely on some medication or Insulin so if you are,

8

then you cannot introduce alcohol into your system because common sense say’s “The two cannot go together”. 4. Make Your Doctor, Your Favorite Partner – that is what it is for you, we often want to live in denial but it will not cut it, do not be intimidated by the name of the disease, you can and will have a normal life if you so choose. Get acquainted very much with your family physician, ask questions make regular visits and talk about it and sooner than you think, you will find out that it’s not as bad as you thought at the beginning. 5. Always Remember - You have diabetes and diabetes do not have you unless you let it, make sure to tell yourself this every day because by so doing, you will awaken the inner power to fight this and do what you have to do. Till next issue please be safe and begin to develop a disciplined plan with your doctor, family and friends that would give you a life-long healthy living. You have to give yourself a mandate and follow through as well. In the next issue, we will look at how to form an effective, inexpensive and workable plan for exercising. God Bless.

The first thing that strikes you sitting before Barrister Johnson is his simple nature, and considering the fact that he is an achiever, one who is affecting life’s all over the globe it is quite amazing that he somehow maintains this cool and calculated nature. Johnson made the cover of this Christmas issue of the magazine because he truly overcame the odds of life that were stacked against him to become a success story. Born in poverty, raised by a single parent (his Mom), migrated to the United Kingdom and had to do various odd jobs on the streets to survive, not to mention the many years of no status, and yet he persevered till date and is building a team of lawyers and assistants that promises to be one of the best law firms in the world. His law firm popularly known as the JBLAW which is an abbreviation of his names is unique in the sense that it is very diversified comprising personal from Nigeria, Eritrea, Hong Kong and counting, he does not just employ but meticulously takes time to mentor and inspire his team to greater heights. When asked to describe himself in one word, he said ‘Simple’ and that is so true if you happen to meet with him, but on the other hand his associates, colleagues and staff describe him as a kind hearted, inspirational, charismatic leader who is full of exciting visions and dynamic plans to fulfilling his dreams of making this law firm one of the biggest and most efficient of its kind worldwide. The Following is the interview I had with him one on one:

Miles: Who is Johnson Babalola? JB: I am just a simple guy, who was born fifty something years ago in Offa Kwara State and attended St Peters Primary school in Ijare Ondo state near Akure Ondo State in Nigeria, when I lost my maternal grand mom who I was staying with, I moved in with my mother and attended Erin-Ile Secondary School in Kwara State. Once I finished there I relocated to Ibadan where I stayed with my maternal uncle by name Mr. A. Ogundahunsi and I was working as research assistance at the Nigerian Television Authority and from there I went to the University of Ibadan to study Law. I

Johnson Babalola Dynamism & Simplicity Personified graduated in 1988 and went to Nigerain Law School in 1989. Soon after, I relocated to the United Kingdom where I did a lot of odd jobs like security and cleaning. In 1998, I applied to Canada as a landed immigrant.

and I was not ready for that so I decided to wait one more year to reapply which I did and this time I got admitted to study law. So I would say that Law for me was not a love at first sight but something that I gradually grew into.

My parents are Jacob and Victoria Babalola and I have three siblings by name Ife, Toyin and Remi. While Ife shuttles between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, my sisters stay permanently in Nigeria.

Miles: With us at miles magazine, we do not just feature people but only those with a unique quality and in your case, one word comes through ‘Dynamism’ is that right?

So this is me, I am a simple guy who enjoys singing, creating positive relationships with people, and giving a voice to people without one.

Miles: What is your motivation? JB: it’s a very good question, I never set out to be a lawyer but an agriculturist but in my high school days I struggled with the sciences and so after deep thinking I decided to change course into an area where I had natural abilities such as government, economics and politics. My friends (like Hon. Moshood Ishola) talked about becoming lawyers but it never occurred to me, so when I finished my A levels I applied and got admission to study Economics but my friends made me aware of the fact that to study Economics, one must encounter calculus and mathematics,

11

JB: You are very correct, I planned it this way, we are very inclusive, dynamic and special in our customer service because the practice of law has changed over the years, in the days of our fathers, people would approach lawyers for help but these days lawyers have to reach out to the clients because the competition has grown immensely and the world is now a global village. You cannot plan to serve only your community which in my case is the Nigerian community, also today you can be a great lawyer but you must have to work with speed so as to deliver timely services hence I need more and more associates, partners and assistants in order to deliver efficiently. When I look at the big firms who have over 100 lawyers I ask myself “why can’t we do the same thing?”

and that is my goal, we are very dynamic and diversified.

Miles: I spoke to Moji (Office Manager) why she chose to work here and she answered ‘Inspiration and Mentorship’ is that correct? JB: Absolutely, as a Christian I do believe that we are all created to be our brother’s keeper and to do that you must hold each other up at all times, you become someone who can inspire, I would not be at this level if nobody was there for me because there were times I did not have something to eat as well, coming from a poor home, raised by my wonderful mother who was a

single parent but we had a very good support system of uncles’ friends and relatives, who were great and inspired me as well. I say to myself that I must be same to others, providing my employees an environment that goes way beyond that of employer and employee relationship but one that is like a family, and we are growing together.

Miles: where do you see this firm going in the future? JB: our goal is to have a well-established law firm that would be the go-to law firm not just in the black countries but the world over, this we plan to achieve by good customer service which is extremely good right now, improve ourselves in our

knowledge level, create a very good result oriented practice by bringing in more and more partners who specialize in various areas of law example health, business, real-estate etc. we want to have offices all over the country and the world, when you go to Montreal we would be there, Calgary we will be there, Vancouver we would be there, Nigerian cities we would be there as well as in Toronto we would have about six or more offices scattered all over the city, and that way we are easily accessible everywhere.

Miles: let’s talk about the community, the Nigerian community as well as the Canadian community. What do you see as your role? JB: One of the goals for me as a Nigerian Canadian is to bring us together, there are so many divisions amongst us, and we are divided amongst so many lines like ethnic lines, religious lines and in so many ways and that shouldn’t be. We are all created equal and should be one, as Nigerians we have a foundation from back home and now in Canada we should build on that. We should make sure together that we remain one, my role personally is to foster positive relationships amongst fellow Nigerians. Yes, people come here and we talk and beyond just financial support which we do often by sponsoring community based events, because some of these events are helping the young ones to grow, beyond that I see myself and some others as role models and that is where the word ‘Integrity’ comes in because when we do that, then they can see us as true role models and be inspired to greatness as well.

“One of the things we are doing starting next year in this law firm is to be working on legal matters between Nigeria and Canada from our office here in Toronto”

I cannot talk about my role without mentioning the practice of law because what happens many times is that I hear many people say ‘I do not want to use a Nigerian lawyer for some reason” so we as Nigerian lawyers need to look at this seriously and work on fixing whatever makes the people feel, think and say such things. On the other hand, Nigerians need to trust and patronize their own; we have to grow our own brands because it flows both ways. One of the things we are doing starting

12

next year in this law firm is to be working on legal matters between Nigeria and Canada from our office here in Toronto, so what that means is that whatever legal need or services a person resident in Canada wishes to transact in Nigeria, they do not have to flight down there like buying houses and other legal matters in Nigeria can be handled from our office by competent Nigerian lawyers. This is one of the steps we are taking to foster relationships in business, legal as well as community relationships.

Miles: What is your message to the world? JB: my message is very simple, we are all created equal and as such should not look down on anyone, love one another but beyond that I say do not be discouraged, your background or color should not stop you, concentrate on your career and determine to make positives out of any negatives around you. I came from a poor home with a single mother but I did not give up nor did I allow the negatives and disappointments weigh me down but rather I determined to make it in life. Have a positive sense to everything.

Miles: Can you describe yourself in one word? JB: I think others can describe me better but if I have to say I would chose ‘Simplicity’

Profile and Testimonies of the Associates and Partners of Barrister Johnson Babalola (JBLAW) Light Nugusse an Associate at JBLAW FIRM My name is Light Nugusse and I am one of the lawyers practicing immigration and refugee law at Johnson Babalola Law Office. I was born in a small country in Northeast Africa called Eritrea, and I am able to speak, read, and write in its’ national language called Tigrinya. At a very young age my parents and I fled to a refugee camp in Sudan to escape the war

conditions in Eritrea, so I am definitely no stranger to the refugee process. We immigrated to Edmonton Alberta when I was only four years old, and although my memory doesn’t go back that far, I can only imagine my shock at the extreme cold temperatures I was subjected to. Growing up in one of the coldest cities in Canada was definitely not easy for someone like me, and it became one of the motivating factors that caused me to move to Toronto, the lesser of two evils. Lucky for me I was fortunate enough to have incredible parents that believed in education and gave me their financial, emotional, and moral support while growing up. So I made good use of my time in Edmonton by obtaining an education that I knew would make my parents proud. I graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in 2005, and subsequently obtained my Law Degree in 2010. And as it turned out, I just happened to be the first Eritrean lawyer to graduate from the University of Alberta and practice in Edmonton. As a new lawyer I started out by practicing civil litigation with a focus on personal injury law, and despite my reputation as an ambulance chaser, it was very enjoyable and rewarding. However, after two and a half years as a personal injury lawyer, I decided to uproot myself and my life to a new city, province, and area of law. Low and behold, I am now a Torontonian immigration lawyer, and I am quite happy that I entered this field as it has proved to be very exciting to learn and I have gained an abundance of knowledge regarding the refugee process.

Yuen Chau Wong (JoJo) Legal Assistant Jojo has been in the JB Law family as a legal assistant for a year. JoJo was born and grow up in Hong Kong; she graduated with an Honors Bachelor degree of Science from the University of Toronto. Prior to joining JB Law, JoJo was a professional translator. She can speak fluent English, Cantonese and Mandarin as she has experience working in the Mainland China, Hong Kong and Toronto. JoJo enjoys new challenges and she is currently working towards becoming a regulated immigration consultant in Canada. JoJo enjoys working at JB Law because their leader (Johnson Babalola) is such a great mentor and she finds it a pleasure working with her teammates and clients.

I am grateful to have met Mr. Babalola, who has given me an opportunity to practice in an area of law which I discovered I am passionate about, as well as the opportunity to help build a law firm that helps change the lives of immigrants across the country in particular and the world. Barrister Johnson Babalola is a good Samaritan with a heart of gold, his dedication to giving hope and proper representation to the clients even when in some cases he is not paid for the services. He is a great mentor and one that desires to see others progress in life. It has truly been a great privilege and honor to work with him.

13

Moji Adesola Office Manager at JBLAW I chose to work at JBLaw firm because Barrister Johnson Babalola provides me ample opportunity to gain practical knowledge in the field of law by learning from talented and experienced professionals

who are drawn together by a common will to offer distinguished and top rate legal services to their clients.

who are always ready to mentor me.

Crystal Yoganath Legal Assistant at JBLAW As for Mr. Babalola, I will say that it is a pleasure to work for someone that is as dedicated and caring as he is. He is an excellent lawyer but just as important, he is an amazing human being that treats his clients and staff with respect and care.

Working in partnership with JBLAW to foster better service for Canadian Nigerians wishing to do business in Nigeria, his practice in association with JB Law and about 4 other lawyers brings over 25 years of Corporate and Commercial legal practice experience into the association. Initially called to the Bar in Nigeria in 1988 and later on the Bar of Upper Canada, he has handled several high dollar value corporate acquisitions, mergers and take overs and government privatization programs in and around Africa. Two of those transactions were supervised by the World Bank. As a lawyer and also a chartered secretary, Barrister Akin had worked for over 15 years as in house legal adviser and corporate secretary to 3 financial institutions within Africa and was also involved in compliance and information technology project management in Canada. His association with JB Law projects him as the go-to person in real estate, business law, ADR and partly business immigration. The strength of the practice lies in the diverse skills, experiences and rich interdisciplinary background of the lawyers

14

Mr. Babalola is my mentor and my friend. He first exposed me to legal practice in Canada generally and Immigration law in particular. Apart from being a gentleman extraordinary, a man of vision and remarkable leader, Mr. Babalola has sensitive and warm approach to people Johnson Babalola is a dedicated professional with boundless energy, who knows how to break through the obstacles to get things done.

In closing, Johnson Babalola has indeed set new standards in the field of Law practice and as we can see, he is truly a lawyer on a mission with a vision.

Believers Authority To Prosper Part II The Foundation When a person wants to begin any project or venture in life, he or she must investigate and find out if there are basis for success, as a believer we must ask ourselves, is it in God’s plan for his children to be rich and blessed in all ramification of the word ‘Rich’? There is godly wealth and there is evil wealth, God has never been against us as his children becoming rich but we must do it in a godly way and without hurting anyone in the process. Another thing that we must note is that in the definition of divine wealth, money is not the only evidence of divine wealth rather it comes in three distinct levels and forms, we shall see that in this article as well as seeing the other foundations that prove and support the clear truth that we are meant to be rich in all things so that we can reach out and be a blessing to others around us.

1. 3 Levels of Prosperity :*Material *Physical - * Spiritual 3 John 2 “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things, and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” It is God’s utmost will and desire that we enjoy his wealth while on this earth and so He speaks through apostle Paul of this great desire for us. Now, when you look at the scripture above, it defines clearly what it means to be rich in the eyes of heaven. First your soul must be saved and protected under the blood of the Lamb, what that means is that as you become born again, you are automatically engrafted into the blessed club of the Almighty, then you begin to experience good health, for what is wealth without the good health to enjoy it. Finally, your physical wealth now begins to manifest because you are not sick, you do not lack the energy to do what is expected of you.

16

2. Poverty Does Not Bring Holiness Psalm 50:10-12 “For every beast of the forest is Mine, And the cattle on a thousand hills. 11 I know all the birds of the mountains, And the wild beasts of the field are Mine. 12 "If I were hungry, I would not tell you; For the world is Mine, and all its fullness.” To be an effective minister of the gospel, you cannot be seen or known to be a pauper because that would actually bring discredit to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. It is no mean achievement to work hard, trade well or invest properly and in the process become rich, after all your Father owns all the beast (Livestock) on a thousand hills. 3. You Have A Right Biblically To Claim Prosperity In Prayer Psalm 118:24-26 “This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be gladl in

it. 25 Save now, I pray, O Lord; O Lord, I pray, send now prosperity. 26 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! We have blessed you from the house of the Lord.” If the bible say’s this in clear terms that we can only have a good day when the goodness of the Lord comes in form of prosperity and then urges us to pray that the Lord should send now His prosperity upon us so that the blessed of the Lord should come with prosperity then I wonder where the ones who say that we should not be concerned with the wealth of this world get their doctrine from? 4. God's Servants Were Rich Abraham In Genesis 13:2 / Solomon In 1 Kings 10:7 and Job 1:3 King Uzziah In 11 Chronicles 26:5 “He sought God in the days of Zachariah, who had understanding in the visions of God; and as long as he sought the Lord, God made him prosper” A word is enough for the wise in this case because I can go on and on and name men and women of God who devoted their lives to being vessels in the hands of this

great God and how they were mightily rewarded by God in form of riches and untold wealth, people like David, Moses, Daniel and even Esther who became a queen and the kings favorite in a foreign land. 4. God Is Not Against Wealth, But Against A Covetous Heart Mark 10:23-31 “ 23 Then Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!" 24 And the disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus answered again and said to them, "Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." 26 And they were greatly astonished, saying among themselves, "Who then can be saved?" 27 But Jesus looked at them and said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible." 28 Then Peter began to say to Him, "See, we have left all and followed You."

29 So Jesus answered and said, "Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel's, 30 who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time-houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions-and in the age to come, eternal life. 31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first." Take time to read this conversation between Jesus and His disciple and you will clearly understand that God wants us to have and enjoy wealth but not to put our whole heart on it because what that means is that you become desperate and would do anything to get it, also it means that you will be worshipping this wealth when you eventually have it and so we are to get wealth but not to worship nor be overly anxious when it has not come because, it must eventually come our way at the right time and season. Remain

blessed

Be Careful, When ‘Thus Saying The LORD’!!! Notice how the LORD seems to be speaking through every pastor, apostle, bishop and prophet these days? Yes, it is becoming scary and sometimes outright ridiculous how everyone seems to speak the mind and heart of God and yet the problems not just abound, but seem to be getting bigger by the day. Some go off and do things in the name of the Lord, only to fail and then make a turn around claiming that somehow God changed his mind at the last moment. The word of God is sure, it does not change to suit the environment, rather the environment changes to suit the word of God, we cannot go out on a limp and when we miss the mark then we claim that God did not get it right. I do believe in the word of God from the mouth of His servants but again it must be balanced against the truth of God’s spirit and principle. You as the hearer and child of the living God must be very careful to judge the word that is spoken to you because like they say in the law court, ‘ignorance is no excuse’, we must have some guidelines against the fraudsters that seem to have invaded the domain of the church these days, so much so that many innocent and ignorant pastors are opening their pulpits to them without knowing the dangerous and disastrous impact such will have in their ministries.

The bible provides us with general guidelines to help us properly respond to personal prophecy: 1. Does the word line up with the scriptures? – it is good and proper for someone to have a word for you from the Lord, but you on your part must make sure that you judge the word based on the bible, if and when it does not fall in within the lines of the bible then it can never be true – 1 Thessalonians 5:19-21 “Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies. 21 Test all things; hold fast what is good.” 2. Is the prophecy given in love or in anger and judgment? – prophesy in the new testament flows from the spirit of Christ. Christ came to edify, exhort and comfort his people therefore every prophecy from his throne of grace must as a matter of principle do same. 1 Corinthians 14:3 “But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.” 3. What is the character and fruit of the person giving the word? – Simply put, by their fruits, you shall know them. We are not perfect as humans but overtime the true intend of our heart is exposed by the fruits we bear. Check that out before you accept certain prophesies about you.

4. Is there any religious biasness in the person giving you the word? – Sometimes people tend to judge and speak based on their religious affiliation, so be careful not to be dragged into such a word because it comes contaminated. 5. Can you sense the Lord’s spirit in the prophecy? – God is not an author of confusion so when a word is given to you from him, then it must definitely bring you an inner sense of calmness and inspiration. Not all the time but most times, the word will come in answer to a question or in confirmation to what you already know but were not sure of. 6. Don’t reject a directional word, but test it against the other keys – if the word is something new and strange then it may be a directional word from the Lord, but don’t act on it right away. Test it like you would any other guidance from the Lord. There are really no stipulated way to guide against fake prophesies except to trust in the Lord and lean not on your own understanding, the good Lord who made you has all it takes to keep you save and direct through known and familiar ways. Do not allow yourself to fall victim of fraudsters in the name of the Lord!!!

A Very Special Christmas Gift The Christmas season is furiously approaching and many of us will get caught up in the euphoria of the festivities and traditions. For others it will be lonely and as the suicide rate increases at this time we need to be mindful of the less fortunate and be more vigilant in extending a helping hand wherever possible. For those who remember the real reason for Christmas, hopefully what dominates is the spirit of love, of giving and sharing. Others will get caught up the spirit of commercialism and outspending the family budget, as is sometimes the case with giftgiving. This Christmas I have much to be thankful but my greatest gift will be delayed by two months as I celebrate another milestone, the birth of my first grandchild. The excitement is great and I am getting all kinds of anecdotes and advice from family and friends who are already grandparents. My husband and I have chosen to be kept

in the dark as to the gender of the upcoming 'bundle of joy'. We will wait until it's absolutely necessary which more than likely will be at the shower, a month before Birth day. Kudos for delayed gratification, my daughter Kyra and her husband have been great, locking gender specific baby paraphernalia in the cupboards and telling me so I will resist the temptation to peak. I have often heard people say they love their grandchildren even more than their own children and that is a feeling I anxiously anticipate. We are already planning to launch a new 'baby line' to our line-up of gentle, fragrance and toxin free products, in commemoration of the newborn. I guess the old adage may just prove true in our case as well. It is truly exciting, seeing the images in the ultrasound, (so much more advanced than 30 years ago) and the awesome array of high tech baby stuff like strollers, change tables, baby baths, bottles, spoons and diapers. The most anticipating moment for me will be in the delivery room. This will undoubtedly bring back memories of delivering my cousin's baby under emergency conditions at her executive, Florida condo. The designer bag was packed for the event at the expensive Plantation hospital, but God

decided he had other plans. Her mom who was an emergency nurse was more stressed than I but thanks to the great unknown voices at the other end of the line, I was able to coax the crying, distressed mom to push, deliver the baby, all messy and crying, and tie the umbilical cord with a string from a blouse which was the only thing I could find at the time. Helping to bring a little life safely into the world still remains one of my greatest achievements. On the birth of another niece in one of Washington's finest hospital with a crew of doctors and nurses two years later, I was able to observe exactly how it should have been done. So as Christmas looms, I will not be shopping for baby clothes at the various sale orgies. Instead I will be heading off to Africa, where I will celebrate Christmas in true Nigerian style and shop for Africanchic baby clothes. Whatever your reason is for celebrating this Christmas in any tradition in which you celebrate I wish you all a Merry Christmas, a joyful Kwanza, Hanukah or Diwali. Coat of Many Colors

Music

Back through the years I go wonderin' once again Back to the seasons of my youth I recall a box of rags that someone gave us And how my momma put the rags to use

There were rags of many colors and every piece was small And I didn't have a coat and it was way down in the fall Momma sewed the rags together sewin' every piece with love She made my coat of many colors that I was so proud of As she sewed, she told a story from the Bible, she had read About a coat of many colors Joseph wore and then she said "Perhaps this coat will brang you good luck and happiness" And I just couldn't wait to wear it and momma blessed it with a kiss My coat of many colors that my momma made for me Made only from rags but I wore it so proudly Although we had no money oh I was rich as I could be In my coat of many colors my momma made for me So with patches on my britches, holes in both my shoes In my coat of many colors I hurried off to school Just to find the others laughing and making fun of me and my coat of many colors my momma made for me And oh I couldn't understand that for I thought I was rich And then I told them of the love my momma sewed in every stitch And I told 'em all the story momma told me while she sewed And why my coat of many colors was worth more than all their clothes They didn't understand it and I tried to make them see One is only poor only if you choose to be It is true we had no money but I was rich as I could be In my coat of many colors momma made for me Made just for me Editor’s choice this song teaches us to be real, appreciative and proud of who and what we have. Sometimes, we are too busy chasing what we do not have and want that we forget to be thankful and appreciative of what we already have. Cheers and happy New Year

Perspective of Faith The first thing that comes to mind when you look at the state of affairs in the world over is to be afraid and panic over the insecurities, the senseless killings, the economic inequalities and so on but we as Christians should not be taken by surprise at all because these things were told us from the beginning of time. Matthew 24:5; 7-30 “And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and Kingdom against Kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows” So we ought to know and not be troubled with the things we see and hear going on in the world, again I must say that it is easier said than done but we must find a way in our hearts to do it. We cannot panic because the word of God is with us and thus we know that God is in total control, in truth we should be seizing this opportunity to take the gospel of God forward to greater heights in the mighty name of Jesus. It is evident that the bible is not just a fiction book but a book of reality, wisdom, and warning and prophesies about our future. How then do we tackle this season of terror, fear, nepotism, confusion and pure anarchy in some extreme cases that is going on all over the world from France through New York all the way to Tunisia then down to Mali and Nigeria there are senseless killings going on, what in the world should we do or be expected to do?

ELIMINATE PANIC ATTACKS Though in a different scenario, during the times of Christ on earth, on the way to many missionary journeys that they undertook, they also encountered boisterous situations and circumstances like we are experiencing now and He gave them certain words of wisdom that I would want to reference in this article: 1. Little Faith - Matthew 8:23-27 “Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. 24 And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. 25 Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, "Lord, save us! We are perishing!" 26 But He said to them, "Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?" Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27 So the men marveled, saying, "Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?" 2. No Faith - Mark 4:35-41 “On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, "Let us cross over to the other side." 36 Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. 38 But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, "Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?" 39 Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace, be still!" And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. 40 But He said to them, "Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?" 41 And they

feared exceedingly, and said to one another, "Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!" 3. Where Is Your Faith (Consumed by fear) - Luke 8:22-25 “Now it happened, on a certain day, that He got into a boat with His disciples. And He said to them, "Let us cross over to the other side of the lake." And they launched out. 23 But as they sailed He fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy. 24 And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, "Master, Master, we are perishing!" Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm. 25 But He said to them, "Where is your faith?" In all these scenarios of the same story told by Matthew, Mark, and Luke, Christ continued to hammer on the truth that we cannot be afraid because He is in control and would take charge or rather has given us the authority to take charge at all times by simply eliminating fear and trusting in the knowledge that He is in control. Simple Instructions On Fear Elimination 1. Make Sure You Have Jesus Christ – (He was in the stern of the Boat) – Are You Saved? 2. Follow the leading of the Holy Spirit – He is Inside You Right Now 3. Attack Fear with the Word of God – not just any word but the word of peace 4. Jesus Christ never sleeps – Psalm 121:4 (Do Not be Deceived) 5. When In Fear, Read Your Bible Or Meet Up With Other Believers

TO WHICH KINGDOM DO YOU BELONG? In the natural world a king is the sovereign ruler of a kingdom. All the territory and people in the kingdom belong to him. He has the power of life and death over his subjects. The same is true in the spiritual world. You are either part of the Kingdom of God or the Kingdom of Satan. Either God or Satan has power over your life. One of the parables told by Jesus illustrates that all men are either part of the Kingdom of Satan or the Kingdom of God. Jesus compared the world to a field. The good seed in the field are children of the Kingdom of God. The bad seed, which resulted in the growth of tares (weeds), are children of the wicked one: The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the Kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one. (Matthew 13:38) People enter the Kingdom of Satan through natural birth. The Bible teaches that all men are born in sin. This means that they have a basic sin nature or the "seed" of sin within. Their natural inclination is to do evil:

Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. (Psalms 51:5) Wherefore, as by one man (Adam) sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. (Romans 5:12) For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23) Because we are born with the basic sin nature, we have all at one time been part of the Kingdom of Satan. All who remain sinners remains part of the Kingdom of Satan. The whole message of God's written Word, the Holy Bible, is the appeal to man to move from this evil Kingdom of Satan to the Kingdom of God. Men are born into the Kingdom of Satan through natural birth. They must be reborn into the Kingdom of God through spiritual birth. Entrance to the Kingdom of God is by the new birth experience explained in John chapter 3.

There are only two divisions in the invisible war. Jesus said, "He that is not with me is against me" (Luke 11:23). You cannot be neutral in this war. You are on one side or the other in this spiritual war. Some believers, because of their fear of confrontation with the enemy, try to ignore the war and form a truce with the enemy. They think if they ignore Satan, he will not bother them. This is one of Satan's main strategies. He tries to render members of God's army immobile by his terror tactics. But there is no neutrality in this war. You are either a victim or victor. You will either be victorious in your soul and spirit or you will be defeated, discouraged, and despondent. You will either be victorious in your physical body or weak and sickly. Which will it be? The spiritual call to arms is going out. Are you on the side of good or of evil? Are you part of Satan's Kingdom or the Kingdom of God? To which kingdom do you belong? Are you a victim or a victor in the invisible war?

Prayer Column

‘COMPONENTS’ OF AN EFFECTIVE PRAYER Prayer is the most powerful weapon available to all mankind, but sadly enough only a few know how to tap into this power which the Lord God has provided for all mankind. The reason for this is very clear, while some out-rightly do not believe in God and His son Jesus Christ; others while believing in Christ do not believe or are not knowledgeable about the power made available by Christ through prayers. Prayer is so important in any one’s life that even our Lord and savior Jesus Christ profited from this while on earth. Everything that Christ wanted to do He did through prayers like the raising of Lazarus from the dead, the commissioning of his ministry in the synagogue, before his arrest in the garden of Gethsemane, before his death on the cross, and before his ascension to heaven, at every point He prayed to his Father in heaven for strength, guidance and grace. We must learn from our mentor in chief and practice in imitation of him as well.

I have put together some components that must be present in every Christian’s prayer life, you can go through and find those which you do not have so that you can add them and by so doing become a great force in prayer so that your joy might be full: 1. You Must Be Penitent – this stands for the utmost attitude needed before you can be able to penetrate the dark clouds of this earth into the realm of the heavens. No one can see God without humility, you must come to God knowing and realizing that you are helpless and unable to make holiness without him. The first condition for approaching God is that you must acknowledge your sinful nature now made sinless by the help and spirit of God Almighty. 1 John 1:8-10 “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and

24

His word is not in us.” 2. Be Very, Very Thankful – we must add a thankful heart to prayers or else we lack the power and ability to receive the answers we desire. The state of our heart towards God matters in a very big way. God is a rewarder of those that diligently seek him, so for you to have nothing to thank him for, then you are simply saying that He has done nothing for you. Yes, what you are looking for in particular may not have been done for you but still you are alive and in your right senses, so why not thank him for that at lease – 1 Thessalonians 5:18 3. Be Apologetic – it is always very important to let God know that you are sorry for any short comings in your life, it does not matter if you can remember any or not, just show God that you know that you are an imperfect being so that Christ can intercede for you.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus”

4. Be Decisive – before ever you kneel down to pray, always decide what you want from God, for me, before I sleep every day at night I ask God for forgiveness, protection and sound sleep – James 1:6-8 5. Know Scriptures That Promise The Answer You Need – it is always very important to know the scripture that directly deals with the answer you desire from God. Towards the end of this year, the Lord directed me towards the arena of prosperity and I quickly picked on the Psalm 118:24-25 that talks specifically on the need for God to send now prosperity. You need to challenge God only by his own words. 6. Make Sure To Ask For Specifics – you know some of us go into prayers with our mouth closed and we claim to speak from the heart, which is also good but speaking about your specific wants in prayer is one of the components that would bring you great results. Yes, God knows your needs

but He still wants to hear you say it over and over again in his ears – Matthew 7:78 7. You Must Have Believe - this cannot be over-emphasized, it is impossible to please God without faith, of course you know that faith is the same thing as believe without which you cannot activate the power and favor of God in your life – Hebrews 11:6. 8. Refuse To Doubt – please no matter how hopeless the situation may seem, always remember that we have a God that turns around any situation even to the point of defiling death. You cannot pray when you have doubt, you must kill all doubts and make a cautious decision to remain faith-full even in the face of all manner of doubts – James 4:7 9. Know Your Bible – recently I have seen that one of our major hindrances in accessing the power and grace of God is in the arena of ignorance; many Christians do not take the pains to do their due diligence

25

by knowing the word of life. You cannot be an effective citizen of a country without studying the constitutions of the land, so also you cannot know who you are in Christ and what power you possess without knowing the book of God. You must learn to meditate in the bible so as to live by it and be an authority in it – Proverbs 4:20-22 10. Give God Praise All The Time – it is paramount that you not only have a heart of thanksgiving but that you express it always in prayer by praising God as the one and only God of your life. Think about this, can you say to yourself I love my wife and never say it out to her, in the assumption that she ought to know that? Same with God, always let him know of your great admiration and love towards him – Philippians 4:6 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus”.

How We Relate

THE POWER OF INFLUENCE One of the most impressive characteristics of influential and popular religious leaders is their ability to influence people who do not know them personally. Mother Teresa affected people that way, Martin Luther King Jnr, and Jesus Christ as well. If you watch, listen; read the teachings of these great leaders, the passion for God and their determination to live the way, the godly way would move you deeply. In the case of Mother Teresa particularly, her lifestyle caused many people to become excited about the possibilities; it created in some an internal guilt regarding the gap between them and God; it generated in others a desire to reflect more deeply in life’s meaning and potential. Billy Graham has the same effect on people. Have you ever encountered a person or persons like that in your life? We naturally love to be around people like this because they have something that is attractive, something that is different but compelling. The key question is: As believers in Christ, why aren’t we such models? This is what God had in mind for us. As we ponder ways to approach the nonChristians of this world, let’s think about

the nature of our own commitments to God. Our offer to the unchurched should not be “Come join an organization” or “Come hang out with our nice group of people.” The offer should be “You, too, can have a relationship with God that will restore in you the same thing that we experience and that we have become.”

promise. You cannot take this as just another commitment because we are at a time in the world when Christ and His gospel of peace would once again become very relevant; times are coming, and indeed are here, when the world would turn to the ambassadors of the Prince of Peace for answers and direction.

Jesus expressed this when He said to His disciples, “Follow Me” (Matthew 19:21). What the unchurched must do is follow Jesus – completely, unashamedly, joyfully, willingly, and longingly. If that is going to happen, we who already follow Jesus must show them the way.

You must become a worthy ambassador of Christ, be an example of the true life and nature of Jesus Christ, we need all hands on deck, ready to fold up their sleeves and dig in for the salvation of the unchurched. To win the world for Christ our inter-personal relationships with others must be above the usual standard, that is the only time that the whole world would begin to take us seriously.

We take first step toward truly preparing to reach the unchurched when we become models of faithfulness, obedience, holiness and righteousness. Are you willing to make such commitment? This is not meant to be a rhetorical question. This is big- a big vision and a big

27

My last word on this is this, we know that the world is at a confused place right now, everybody is seeking for an answer and a way forward, we must seize the moment to proclaim the love, pose, grace and magnanimity of the gospel. Cheers as you get excited and commit to a life of influence.

Leadership Column

ATTRIBUTES OF THE GOD DRIVEN LEADER In this life, I am often amazed how many people that rush into leadership only to discover that it was not the right step for them in the first place. Leadership demands certain attribute for success and if neglected, is a sure recipe for disaster. I love seeing people volunteer to serve in various capacities but also it is not enough to have the heart for service, it must be matched by the development or acquisition of the qualities required for effective leadership to take place. ‘When you are a leader and nobody is following then you are simply taking a walk in the park’ In this article, we shall journey through the various attributes or characteristics that make for a great leader, now, note that there is nothing wrong with aspiring to become even when you do not possess these skills yet, but there is something wrong when you do not possess and refuses to make an effort in acquiring them.

AN ARMY OF SHEEP LED BY A LION WILL DEFEAT AN ARMY OF LION LED BY A SHEEP - Arabic Proverb 1. Leaders Are Always Full of Praise – a true leader is one that is always full of praise for his team, it is often difficult to find people with this attribute but on the contrary many so called leaders are full of criticism instead. 2. Leaders Learn To Say 'Thank-you' and 'Please' On The Way To The Top – It is one thing to be full of praise for your team and another thing to learn how to say ‘Thank-you’ and ‘Please’, on the way up because same people are the ones you will meet on your way down as well. A true leader is valued and respected for his ability in exercising these qualities. 3. Leaders Are Always Growing – There is a saying that “A reader today is the leader of tomorrow”, my father once

36

told me that one begins to die the very day he stops growing by gaining more knowledge in life. Even the bible talks about the need for the person of God to study on a daily basis because it brings power, success and above all prosperity – Joshua 1:8 “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” 4. Leaders Are Always Possessed with Dreams – During one of my couples pre-marriage counseling session, I asked the couples to tell each other what they would love to change if they had the power in the others life. So the wife to be, talked about the frustration of the husband coming up with so many plans all the time. She wished he would just stick to one and forget about more imaginations. The truth is that any true leader including yours truly (I) will always

have a dream, an abstract idea that he would love to try out. It will eventually work, so always remember, it does not matter how many times you miss it, all you need is to get it right once and your life will be redefined as very successful. 5. Leaders Launch Forth Before Success is Certain – a true leader must be able to see into the invisible and most times unpredictable future, and what this simply means is that you must be able to take risk and hope for the best without endangering or jeopardizing others – 2 Corinthians 4:18 “while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”

6. They Are Not Afraid of Confrontation – Leaders who shy away from confrontations often end up burning out because they stomach so much garbage inside that it eventually gets to them by weighing them down. It is only cowards that shy away from confrontation then go secretly talking about the situation. 7. Leaders Talk About Their Own Mistakes Before They Talk About The Mistakes Of Others – As a preacher of the gospel, I find that the most powerful and effective form of sermon is that of personal testimonies. It is so real and impacting that it has become my only form of impartation, it sometimes do come with a high level of risk because

37

one could be seen in the light of his past darkness, but it is worth it after all to use your stories as the subject matter of the leadership training. 8. Leaders Are People Of Honesty And Integrity – It is of paramount importance that both your leadership team and everybody trust and believe in you. It is of no need to be a leader when your subjects cannot trust in you to do what you say and say what you do. You cannot lose this quality, under no circumstance. I would leave it at this for this issue but do join me in the next, for the concluding part of this article…

ADVANTAGE OF ADVERSITY (Getting the Best Out of Difficulties / Misfortune) *Davids Adversary/Misfortune - 1 Samuel 30:1-8 “Now it happened, when David and his men came to Ziklag, on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the South and Ziklag, attacked Ziklag and burned it with fire, 2 and had taken captive the women and those who were there, from small to great; they did not kill anyone, but carried them away and went their way. 3 So David and his men came to the city, and there it was, burned with fire; and their wives, their sons, and their daughters had been taken captive. 4 Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voices and wept, until they had no more power to weep. 5 And David's two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite, had been taken captive. 6 Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.7 Then David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech's son, "Please bring the ephod here to me." And Abiathar brought the ephod to David. 8 So David inquired of the Lord, saying, "Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?" And He answered him, "Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all." *His Advantage was that he became even much richer and famous from the spoils of war to the extent that he was giving away to his allies. - Vv. 26-31 “Now when David came to Ziklag, he sent some of the spoil to the elders of Judah, to his friends, saying, "Here is a present for you from the spoil of the enemies of the Lord"- 27 to those who were in Bethel, those who were in Ramoth of the South, those who were in Jattir, 28

those who were in Aroer, those who were in Siphmoth, those who were in Eshtemoa, 29 those who were in Rachal, those who were in the cities of the Jerahmeelites, those who were in the cities of the Kenites, 30 those who were in Hormah, those who were in Chorashan, those who were in Athach, 31 those who were in Hebron, and to all the places where David himself and his men were accustomed to rove.” *The key is you not them nor the adversary - quit blaming everybody for everything and take advantage of your situation because only by your hands can you achieve victory through Jesus Christ, get up, stand up and claim back your destiny 1 Chronicles 14:11 “So they went up to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there. Then David said, "God has broken through my enemies by my hand like a breakthrough of water." Therefore they called the name of that place Baal Perazim.” Be Inspired To Make The Best Out Of All Situations!!! 1. The purest ore is produced from the hottest Furnace - Joseph 2. EVENTS

On Saturday the 7th of November 2015, Bishop Reader and the church held their annual harvest and ordination service. As is now a tradition with the church, the event was filled with fun, joy and inspiration. The bishop in his sermon admonished the newly ordained ministers to be a light that would shine forth in an ever darkening society filled with confusion. The event was well attended and all went home feeling fulfilled in the presence of the Lord.

The Shepherds Heart

EDIFCATION OF

THE CONVERT Our work in soul winning doesn’t end when sinners agree and accept Christ as Lord and Savior. That’s actually the first part of the work involved in the conversion process. When we succeed in making converts (or we have new members who just turned up in church because they have made up their mind to serve God), the next duty we owe them as a church in The Great Commission mandate is their edification. What Is Edification? – It simply means the building up of believers. In this case it means bringing new believers to be like Jesus Christ, and equipping and building them up to reproduce themselves. (Ephesians 4:11-16). New believers must be handled with care, and nurtured until they are mature, and can fit and flow freely within the church system. These words also give us insight into the meaning: illuminate, improve, uplift, better, exalt, refine, finish, mature, perfect, polish, (Webster’s New Thesaurus of the English Language) IN

WHAT

WAY

CAN

NEW

BELEIVERS BE EQUIPPED SO THAT THEY CAN BE LIKE CHRIST AND REPRODUCE THEM-SELVES? 1. Through the knowledge of the word: we must note, however, that a head knowledge of the word alone doesn’t make us spiritual, therefore, just as it is also important to encourage them to be doers of the word (James 1:22-25), it is only when people can apply the scripture to their daily lives that they can start to grow into maturity (See also 1 Peter 2:2) 2. Through making them participate in some form of ministry: the various offices – apostles, prophets, evangelist, pastors, teachers were given to the church as leadership gifts “for the perfecting of saints… for the edifying of the body of Christ”, Ephesians 4:12. This process of perfecting the saints has as its goal to bring believers “unto a perfect man, the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ:, Ephesians 4:13 3. Visitation: if a child doesn’t return from school when he/she should, the mother goes looking for them. A well constituted visitation committee is a

43

good effort in conserving converts and new believers. Members of that committee and all other members in the church should not hesitate to pay a visit to the home of a Christian brother or sister when you find they are not in church. New believers are encouraged greatly when they find they have come to a caring church. Note The Following However!!! 1. Converts can be chased away if they find that the old members are always arguing and gossiping. 2. Converts can be chased away if they find that a church is worldly, and all the people are interested in is dragging for position. A church with many Diotrepheses is in danger because new members do not stay long (3 John 9). Such a church has no time for the new convert who seeing that his spiritual need cannot be met in such a congregation, quietly drifts to another church. 3. Converts can be chased away if they discover there is no love in that church.

World View

And you too, Brutus!!! A World Under Siege From Within Pope Francis describes it as the third world war, President Barak Obama calls it senseless cowardice, France declares it as an act of war, and yet no one country nor person has an answer or solution to the war. The war I am talking about is the terror from within, listen, it is very easy or at least manageable when you know that your problem will definitely be coming from the outside but how on earth do you handle the situation when the threat will come from amongst your own people. While in high school, I read the famous novel titled ‘Julius Caesar’, and the high point or would I call it the ‘denouement’ of the novel as they say in literature was the ultimate betrayal of the King by his closest ally and confidant, Brutus drew the last blood by stabbing Caesar. I can say then that the world is going through same scenario in the form of home breed terrorist. It is painful to feel betrayal by the same people you have reached out to in various ways, but the reality is that peace has become a very scarce commodity in the world today. Now it begins to make sense to me why and how Jesus Christ came as the Prince of Peace, I often thought about this, He could have come as a king, a commander, a leader in every ramification of the word but He chose to be the Prince of Peace because He knew that a day is coming when nothing else would matter but PEACE. So the big question is out, what is the solution, how do you secure your coun-

try when the threat is coming from ordinary everyday people? Neighbors turned bad, students radicalized on the internet, ah, the internet an evil we cannot live without, it has the good, the bad, the ugly, and now the deadly in it. While I cannot say that the internet is totally to blame, but it plays a very huge part in this issue, there is nothing that you cannot find on the net right from the comfort of your home, one would expect the government in some way or form to begin to filter what is allowed on the net but how practical and possible is that without infringing on the rights of the citizens and residents. Did I just say ‘Rights’ and what rights if I may ask? Same rights that are being trampled upon and constantly destroyed by those taking away the innocent lives of couples, students, infants, babies, co-workers, movie-goers and so on, if you ask me I think that the world is no longer free and that notion that we have the freedom to do or go where we like has seriously been infringed upon long time ago. If you doubt me, then try travelling by air to the United States and you will have an idea what I am talking about by the time you get out of the airport and the screening you must have gone through. The most gracious Pope called it the third world war and I cannot agree more, it is the third world war and this is the form that it has decided to come by. In Nigeria for instance the Boko Haran has killed over 6,000 and counting, while ISIL or ISIS in turn has killed over 6,000

44

too then you factor in that gun violence in America has become a daily occurrence ending so many lives, one would suspect will be equal in number or similar to the 6,000 killed by the recognized terrorist groups. I bet that the Iraq war did not claim these numbers. So in truth there is war and there is no imminent end in sight, it is the ultimate betrayal, whether it is in Nigeria, Mali, France, America, Turkey, Iran, Syria it is still the same, the world is at war and has no solution to winning. Time To Seek A Peace Formulae – You know we must turn back to the one person that has never and will never fail, Christ and His gospel is all about love, peace and unity, now I am not saying that the other religions are not peace but we all know the truth of the matter because one thing I always believe is that history does not lie nor deceive, the Christendom is one of peace, love and unity even in the midst of diversity. Gone are the days of super-power, soviet power, the G8, G12 and all the G’s are all confused and cannot proffer a solution for sustainable peace, we must again look into the principles that made Christ the undisputable Prince of Peace, not in the form of turning the whole world to Christians, NO, but let us consult His principles because it makes for peace and works for peace, He is the ultimate counselor where peace is concerned!!! Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Psalms Column

Praise To God For His Everlasting Mercy Psalm 118 OH, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. Let Israel now say, “His mercy endures forever.” “Let the house of Aaron now say, His mercy endures forever.” Let those who fear the LORD now say, “His mercy endures forever.” I called on the LORD in distress; The LORD answered me and set me in a broad place. The LORD is on my side; I will not fear what can man do to me? The LORD is for me among those who help me; Therefore I shall not see my desire on those who hate me. It is better to trust in the LORD, than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the LORD, than to put confidence in princes. All nations surround me. But in the name of the LORD I will destroy them. They surround me, yes they surround me; But in the name of the LORD I will destroy them. They surround me like bees; They were quenched like a fire of thorns; For in the name of the LORD I will destroy them. You pushed me violently, that I might fall, but the LORD helped me. The LORD is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation. The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tents of the righteous; The right hand of the LORD is exalted, The right hand of the LORD does valiantly. I shall not die, but live, And declare the works of the LORD. The LORD has chastened me severely; But He has not given me over to death. Open to me the gates of righteousness; I will go through them, And I will praise the LORD. This is the gate of the LORD, through which the righteous shall enter. I will praise the You, for You have answered me, and have become my salvation. The stone which the builders rejected, has become the chief cornerstone. This was the LORD’s doing; and it is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day the LORD has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it. Save now, I pray, O LORD; O LORD, I pray, send now prosperity. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD! We have blessed you from the house of the LORD. God is the LORD, and He has given us light; Bind the sacrifice with cords to the horns of the altar You are my God, and I will praise you; you are my God, I will exalt you Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. AMEN.

Word from our Father – U.S.A Rev. Daniel Garza White Wings Int'l Healing Ministry Eagle Pass, Texas (USA)

REVELATION OF THE CROSS 1 Corinthians 1:18: For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through Me" So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!"

(THE FATHER) (THE SON) John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. (2) Luke 9:35 (4) (3) Matthew 3:17 CHRIST John 19:30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!"

Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me." Jesus said, "You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life, but they are that which testify of Me." So tell me! Are you searching the Scriptures to learn facts or to learn of Me? (THE CROSS) 1 Corinthians 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

Matthew 16:24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me." (1) (THE MOTHER) (MARY) John 2:5 His mother said to the servants, "Whatever He says to you, do it." (Please connect the dots 1 to 2 back to Christ to 3 back to Christ and to 4)

The Last Word

TRUE MEASURE OF A MAN Is Not In What He Does On Sunday But in Who He is Monday Through Saturday Galatians 5:16-18 “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.” We as humans are experts of deception, we know how to be good and nice when it is required like on a Sunday morning, most of us Christians, show up in church, serve and worship as required of us but the true measure of who we truly are, does not occur at such times, rather we are measured by the things we do when no one seems to be watching. I have taken this time to look deeply at the true measure of a man in terms of who we are and what we are. 1. We Must Always Remain In The Spirit By Guarding Our Minds and Hearts – a person is measured by how much of his life is lived in the spirit because the flesh is not one to be disciplined as a guide to the heart of man in the ways of the Lord, therefore we control the excesses of the flesh by the discipline of the spirit. 2. We Must Walk By Faith and Not By Sight - 2 Corinthians 5:7 “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” It is often very easy to sit in church on a Sunday morning and listen to

the pastor talk about how we are more than conquerors and able to defeat all the trials that may come our way but the reality is that in life we will at some point come across very challenging circumstances , what do we do then? A true believer must learn to live by faith in God and His abilities than by sight because life is tough and only the tough and well equipped will survive. 3. People Whose Eyes, Ears and Minds Are Directed Towards The World Find It Hard/Difficult To Hear God Speaking To Them – To succeed you must tune your life to a higher power, the energy that this world can supply you will not cut it for you in times of difficulties and confusion, you must be able to hear from God because that is where the supernatural is activated. No one becomes great by doing what is normal, greatness and fame comes when ordinary through the influence of a supernatural God does great and exceptional things. 4. Our Inner Man Is Always Willing But Our Natural Man Resists - Matthew 26:41 “Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." – Nobody is measured by the amount of temptations you encounter in life but we are all measured by the amount of temptations we are able to overcome in life. You must always be on guard so that you are not spiritually vulnerable to defeat. You must

52

watch and pray at all times, because through prayer, you empower your spirit and depower the flesh. Temptation is not a sin but the falling into it is, so being prayerful lest you fall when you are tempted. 5. The Advantage of Walking In The Spirit is that It Keeps Us On The Right Path – notice that all through this article, I have talked about the need to walk in the spirit, depend on the spirit, live by the spirit because when you are spiritual, you tend to be measured above the dictates and intends of this particular world. 6. Our Relationship With God Is Not A Sometimes Affair But An All Time Union He is Everywhere We Are – finally my friends, please and please make sure you always have a relationship with God, wake up in the morning with prayers and conversation with Him, do not just tell him all your troubles and saddle him with your needs and wants but make sure to allow Him time and space to talk back to you. In whatever you do, give God the space to be a part of your life, how you may ask? Listen to the little voice inside you (your conscience), it is God’s medium of corresponding with you and the more you listen and obey, the closer will be your relationship with God.

My Job Restored I live in Edmonton and I saw the man of God (Bishop Don Ifepe) on the Television talking about the season for restoration and promotion. I decided to connect with him by calling which I did. To my surprise I have been sending my resumes without any progress but not only did I receive a favorable response within day of ending the prayer session with him but I received multiple job opportunities. Today I am well employed in the field of my choice and I give God the praise for using this awesome man of God. Bro. Lawrence

I Have My Health Restored

My Business Is Restored I was very confused on what line of business to embark on when I was invited to a business and life skill coaching session with Bishop Don Ifepe. He thought on the four Cardinal Points to Success and I was so blessed by his teaching that I booked a personal time with him. I was amazed at how much knowledge and wisdom that Bishop has in the area of business and investments. I came out of that meeting truly blessed and above all I was now focused on the direction to take in life. The bishop did not stop at just advising me but continues to follow up with me in prayers and guidance till date. I wish to thank him so much and to pray for more of God’s grace upon his life Bro Jude

I used to be very sick with pains and muscular issues, I tried to find cure and healing through medical mean but to no avail. At a point in life I resigned myself to leaving on pain-killers. A friend of mine then gave me the number to the man of God (Bishop Don Ifepe), he gave me a few prophetic words that were personal to me and very real to me. We embarked on a 3-days prayer which ended with us meeting to pray over my health, to the amazement of me and my wife; I started feeling greatly relieved from the pain. I do now believe in the power of the Lord to divinely bring divine healing, I am healed and I thank God for the man of God and pray that the Almighty would continue to keep him and use him to his own glory.

Discovering My True Identity I have been a student with the ministry of Bishop Don for a couple of months now, my friends and family now tell me that for a guy that was suffering from low self-esteem in the past, my life and personality has drastically changed in a very short time. I do get really excited every time the Bishop came to our church for the monthly leadership meetings. He is truly a teacher who has been anointed and appointed for such a time as this. Bro. Johnson

These are some of the testimonies that happen on a daily basis in and around the ministry of Bishop Don Ifepe. If you or your loved ones are ever in need of God’s divine intervention then do not hesitate to call us at 416.576.3775
