ABOUT M ILIFE-VICTORIA

M iLif e-Vict or ia is a Community Service Organisation creating opportunities and pathways to connect people with a disability to the community.

MiLife-Victoria is a provider of non-accredited education programs designed to support people with a disability to develop confidence and provide them with skills and knowledge to support their preparation for work, volunteering or other vocational activities.

Courses are conducted using flexible teaching methods and approaches to accommodate individual needs including flexible start and finish times.

Cost There are a few ways a person can pay for this course. - Victorian Government funding - NDIS funding through the SLES Program - NDIS funding through other core or capacity building funds

FOUNDATION SKILLS - YEAR ONE

Wh at it 's all abou t This course is designed to assist, support and educate young people to make the transition from the school environment to being part of the general community as an adult. The course will run over two years and will cover topics such as: - How to be an adult - growing up, responsibilities that come with being an adult, being an Australian Citizen, Rights and Responsibilities - Communication and Assertion - making choices, problem solving, self advocacy, self-awareness and self-management and engaging with other adults in different settings. - Community experience - travelling independently, using businesses, recreation and public facilities. - Setting adult goals - where do I want to be, creating a plan with my aspirations, expectations, personal, educational, vocational and community goals. - Developing independence - daily living skills, money management, self-care and home maintenance. - Developing Networks - making friends, being involved in recreational activities.

FOUNDATION SKILLS - YEAR ONE con t in u ed

Tar get Au dien ce - A person who is or has just turned 18 years of age. - A person who finished school the previous year and requires support to take the next step in their journey as an adult.

En t r y Requ ir em en t s/ Pr e-r equ isit es - Completed Secondary School. - A learning plan and questionnaire will be completed upon enrolment to identify abilities, skills and experience and future goals. - An evaluation of the year will be conducted in December.

Pat h w ays Upon completion of this course young people can undertake: Step in the Right Direction - Intermediate, year 2, which includes work experience placement.

INTERM EDIATE - YEAR TWO This course is designed to continue building on the content covered inthe foundation course and introduce new areas to assist with building on the next stage of developing work skills and further independence as well as promoting independence in every day life. The course will cover new topics such as: - Goal setting for work, volunteering, independence, recreational, personal. - Employment/volunteer objectives - career exploration and vocational interests, aptitudes and skills, job roles, workplace tours and visits, work experience, attend Career Expos. - Introducing Employability Skills - team work, communication, problem solving and decision making, initiative, expectations in the workplace, laws and roles and responsibilities at work, behaviours in the workplace. - Study options - vocational courses, tertiary, TAFE, pre-accredited courses, tours and visits. - Adult living - preparing for independent living, managing finances, relationships, self-care.

Pat h w ays Capacity Building - Moving out of home, Intermediate course Capacity Building - Moving out of home, Advanced course Adult Education - Pre-accredited courses, which includes developing networks and pathways to a job/volunteer position or further study.
