Cyclists participate in The Warrior Ride By AZ (AW) Airman Kelvin Cohen Navy Public Affairs Support Element East

VIRGINIA BEACH

Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story (JEBLCFS) hosted a Warrior Ride bicycling event for Wounded Warriors, April 26. More than 21 cyclists participated in the event, including veterans wounded in combat and one participant whose parent sustained injury while on duty. “This makes these guys happy to see the support,” said Bob Racine, founder and event organizer for “The Warrior Ride.” “It builds their hearts up and lets them know the community is supporting them.” The 30-mile-course, which began at JEBLCFS and ended at Naval Station Norfolk, was not a race, but an event to add strength through teamwork by concluding when the last cyclist rode across the finish line. “Programs like this help wounded Soldiers confide with each other,” said Army Staff Sgt. Sammy Nates, an event participant. “Doing a bike ride like this builds camaraderie.” The event also benefits participating cyclist on a personal level as well. “This is a wonderful experience for Soldiers to seek everybody’s help to get through rough times,” said Nates. “It’s also a good way to get out and enjoy new areas, meet new faces and have a wonderful time.” The Warrior Ride is a civilian non-profit organization that provides Wounded Warriors an opportunity to adapt to their injuries and raise morale and awareness for wounded veterans.
