Secretary of the Navy Kenneth J. Braithwaite met with Reserve Sailors assigned to Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) Newport and Maritime Security Squadron 8 (MSRON 8) aboard Naval Station Newport, Jan. 9.

This was the first visit to a NOSC by a Secretary in recent memory. During the visit, Braithwaite congratulated the Reserve Sailors and NOSC staff for their outstanding work during COVID-19 pandemic relief efforts last year. “Many of you probably know I retired from the Navy after 31 years of combined active and reserve service. I am proud of that and want to thank each of you for your dedicated service and the

sacrifices you endure to serve our country,” said Braithwaite. “The nation sends its gratitude to the over 3,000 Reserve Sailors, many who mobilized in less than 48 hours, that deployed in the fight against COVID-19.” Braithwaite then met with NOSC Newport and MSRON 8 leadership, and received briefs on the commands and 

Two instructors attached to Information Warfare Training Command (IWTC) Virginia Beach were named the Center for Information Warfare Training (CIWT) domainwide 2020 Military Instructors of the Year (IOY). Electronics Technician 2nd Class Jaron Dick and Lt. Heather Gotliboski were named as the CWIT domain-wide Junior Instructor of the Year (JIOY) and Officer Instructor of the Year, respectively. IWTC Virginia Beach takes great pride in the vast experience each instructor brings with them as they stand before their students on a daily basis. With a combined 40 years of active duty experience, both Dick and Gotliboski have dedicated themselves to providing hundreds of hours of instruction while including what they have learned in the fleet to make course material more relevant to their students. What has set both IOYs apart from their peers is their ability to also provide mentorship to both their enlisted and officer students by going above and beyond to ensure that all students not only understand course material to the best of his or her ability, but to understand how he or she fits into
