EverSincethathorrendousattack23years agoonSeptember11th,2001,whenAmerica witnessed the most horrific attack on our country since the attack on Pearl Harbor onDecember7th,1941,September11th,has been a day of reflection for me The terrorist attacks in New York City Washington D.C. andShanksville Pennsylvania, leaving nearly3,000peopledeadanditsaftereffects tothisday, issomethingwemustnever, ever forget.

It was a beautiful, sunny Tuesday and at that time, I was an Assistant Principal at Spratley Middle School in Hampton, Virginia With the city of Hampton being a heavily military area, (we have Langley Air Force Base and then the very active Fort Monroe), when we got the news of the attack, the fear was that our area would be attacked as well. I set up a desk in the hallway of the main entrance of the school and my job was to assist parents in getting their childrenandtakingthemsafelyhome Idid not have time to process anything if truth betold, andIhadfamilyandfriendsinNew YorkCity becauseIwasinworkmode automatic pilot, assuring all parents that their kids were safe and they could take them home BythetimeIgothomeverylateintheday, my wife who is from Brooklyn, New York was able to check on all of our family and friendsandpraiseGod,theywereallfine. We prayed strongly that night about our great country and for the families who lost their lovedones

The gravity of the attack did not hit me until the next morning when, driving in to worktoSpratleyMiddle,(yeswehadschool the next day, although very few students attended), I heard on the radio about the impactonapre-KschoolinNewJerseythat the attack of 9/11 had on it So many people whoworkinNewYorkCity cannotaffordto liveinthecity sotheyliveinthesuburbsand especiallyinNewJerseyandcommutetothe city Thenewsreportstatedthatsomething like40pre-KchildrenwereNOTpickedup from school that day, because their parents or grandparents had perished in the attack. As a parent of a 14 and a 10 year old at that time and a surrogate parent to all of our Spratley Middle School students, I started to sob uncontrollably and even though I was driving on a bridge heading into the Hampton Roads tunnel, I pulled off to the side and cried, and cried, until I could not cryanymore. When I eventually got to school, one of the little 6th graders saw how distraught I

Fall Respiratory Virus Vaccines What pregnant women need

Source: United States Department Of Health and Human Services

Fall brings cooler days and more time indoors This makes it easier for viruses like influenza (flu) COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) to spread.
