US, UK, France complete exercise Alligator Dagger 17 From USS Bataan Amphibious Ready Group Public Affairs ARTA BEACH, DJIBOUTI

Forces from the U.S., U.K. and France completed exercise Alligator Dagger 17, a two-week multilateral amphibious exercise in international waters off the coast of Djibouti and in the vicinity of Djibouti and Arta Beach, April 20. Exercise Alligator Dagger 17, led by U.S. Naval Amphibious Forces, Task Force 51, 5th Marine and Expeditionary Brigade (51/5), brought together elements of the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) with forces from the Royal navy and French marines. The exercise’s purpose MC1 Darren M. Moore was to familiarize units Quartermaster 2nd Class Patrick W. Holmes, assigned to the visit, board, search and seizure team aboard the amphibious dock landing ship USS Carter Hall (LSD 50), with the U.S. Central Comclimbs up a hook ladder while boarding the ship while participating in a drill during exercise Alligator Dagger 17. Carter Hall, part of the Bataan Amphibious Ready mand (CENTCOM) area of Group, is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of maritime security operations designed to reassure allies and partners, and preserve the freedom of navigation and the free flow of commerce in the region.

BHC Norfolk now offering walk-in contraception clinic

Branch Health Clinic Naval Station Norfolk opened the first Walk-In Contraception Clinic for military beneficiaries in Hampton Roads April 25. “It’s an open-access clinic for women who need contraception,” women’s health provider Lt. Cmdr. Stacey Hamlett said. “The idea is to provide nondelayed contraception because women shouldn’t have to wait three weeks and possibly have an unintended pregnancy.” The idea stemmed from a working

group Hamlett is a member of with the U.S. Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery. Currently, three other military medical facilities in other locations within the U.S. offer contraception clinics, but BHC Norfolk is the first in the Hampton Roads area. The clinic serves all female beneficiaries who have been abstinent for two weeks. Coast Guard rescues 2 aboard sailboat south of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina News Release U.S. Coast Guard 5th District Mid-Atlantic HATTERAS, N.C.

The U.S. Coast Guard rescued two people aboard a sailboat 13 miles south of Cape Hatteras. Sector North Carolina watchstanders in Wilmington received notification that the 43-foot sailboat Nanette had a fouled propeller due to heavy weather conditions and was requesting assistance at 6 a.m. The Coast Guard responded by sending a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat (MLB) crew from Station Hatteras Inlet, a C-130 Hercules aircrew and an MH-60
