Hold ‘sanctuary’ mayors accountable By Todd Starnes
M
oms and dads in Montgomery County, Md., are terrified and angry — and with good reason. They don’t know how many more illegal alien predators might be living among them, waiting to brutally rape another 14-year-old American school girl. The two men accused of raping a 9th grader on March 16 at Rockville High School came into this country illegally. Jose Montano, 17, and Henry Sanchez Milian, 18, were among tens of thousands of young people who crossed the U.S.-Mexico border illegally in 2016. In other words, former President Obama let them into the country. Both men were apprehended by federal border agents and were targeted for deportation proceedings but were eventually set free and turned over to relatives living in Maryland. They were caught and they were released. And then they allegedly took turns raping a teenage girl in a public high school bathroom. “I know that if this country enforced the laws that are already on the books, those two young men would not have been here and this rape, this horrendous rape, would not have occurred, one parent said. But we all know that for the past eight years, the Obama administration placed the well-being of illegal aliens over the well-being of American citizens. That’s ultimately why the illegals were not sent back to where they came from. They were set free so they could prowl the hallways of Rockville High School in the relative safety of a so-called sanctuary community.
The school district denied any responsibility in the sickening attack. They told parents at a special meeting that federal law required they accept any student under the age of 21. They also said they were not allowed to ask about the immigration status of any student. “You have young adult males that really do not have our culture and you are putting them in the same classroom as our 14-year-old girls and they are saying there is nothing we can do about that — sorry, parent Theresa Rickman told Fox News. In other words, the liberal educators are telling parents “Don’t blame us. How many more Americans must be killed by illegals? How many more families must be turn apart? How many more school girls must be raped before our elected leaders secure our borders? In 2015 Kate Steinle was gunned down by an illegal alien in San Francisco — a sanctuary city. The man charged with her murder was a seven-time felon who had been deported five times. Five times. There was an immigration hold on the suspect, meaning the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement wanted to come get him and ship him out of the country. But San Francisco authorities set the man free. Just a few months later, Steinle was dead. Steinle’s blood is not only on the hands of her killer, it’s also on the hands of San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee. It’s beyond belief that liberal mayors are allowing illegal aliens to run wild in the streets of American cities, terrorizing law-abiding citizens. So Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ vow to punish sanctuary cities is welcome news. He announced plans to withhold from any city that harbors illegals billions in federal funding.

“Not only do these policies endanger lives of every American, just last May, the Department of Justice inspector general found that these policies also violate federal law, Sessions said. “The president has rightly said disregard for law must end. The Trump Administration should go a step further. If an illegal commits a felony crime in a sanctuary city, the mayor of that city should also face criminal charges — from harboring fugitives to aiding and abetting. If you harbor an illegal alien within your city limits and he commits a heinous crime, then the mayor and council should go to jail, too. San Francisco’s Lee defiantly declared on Twitter that “#SanctuaryCities are safer, more productive, healthier places to live. Tell that to Kate Steinle’s family. The attorney general rightly said that failing to report illegal immigrants who are “convicted of criminal offenses put whole communities at risk, especially immigrant communities in the very sanctuary jurisdictions that seek to protect the perpetrators. Countless Americans would be alive today if sanctuary cities were shut down. Kate Steinle would be alive today. Some of you may say, “Come on. Be realistic. OK, fine. Let’s be realistic. Two illegal aliens are accused of taking turns raping a 14-year-old girl as she screamed in agony and begged them to stop. She was violated inside a public school bathroom on American soil. Is that realistic enough for you? I’m disgusted, America. Are you? Todd Starnes is the host of Fox News & Commentary — heard daily on more than 250 radio stations.

‘LIFE’ BRINGS CREEPY TO SPACE By Jeri Jacquin MilitaryPress
Swirling through space from director Daniel Espinosa and Columbia Pictures is a film that teaches us to leave well enough alone and enjoy “Life. On a space station high above Earth are six astronauts waiting for a special delivery to prove there is life on Mars. Rory Adams (Ryan Reynolds), Ekaterina Golovkina (Olga Dihovichnaya), Hugh Derry (Ariyon Bakare), Sho Murakami (Hiroyuki Sanada) and David Jordan (Jake Gyllenhaal) are led by Miranda North (Rebecca Ferguson). When Hugh begins experiments on the samples, there is almost an immediate re-
sult as life grows. Sharing the news with the world, a local school wins the honor of naming the single-cell organism Calvin. As quickly as Calvin grows, they crew panics when it becomes clear that something is wrong with the life form. Reviving it is the beginning of what becomes a race for survival between the humans on board and the life form that is growing and becoming smarter. They must keep the creature from getting to Earth at all costs — even if the cost is their lives! Gyllenhaal as David is a man clearly meant to live in space. Not in a hurry to return to Earth, he keeps his head when everything begins to go wrong. Gyllenhaal

Reynolds as Rory brings a sense of sarcasm and quick lines to this character. Of course it isn’t a stretch for Reynolds to do that, as he has made a fantastic career out of doing just that. But when it’s time to be intense, he can bring it with a fierceness that you won’t soon forget. Sanada as Sho is on board while his wife is waiting to have their child. “Rescuing Penny Jane by Amy Sutherland details the crime of having homeless dogs, and of those stuck in shelters. Any dog lover will go through a range of emotions as Sutherland recounts anecdotes about dozens of dogs, observations about the practices of various animal shelters, as well as interviews with their operators and animal behaviorists. “The primary reason I wrote my book is to give people an understanding of how the shelter world works, Sutherland said. “I want them to beware of pet stores that will put dogs down when they are no longer puppies. In today’s world there are virtual pet stores on-line. “People should really meet a dog in person before getting one. An advantage of a shelter is that the volunteers and workers can explain what the dog is like. We understand what will work and not work for people’s needs. The primary reason for going to a shelter or rescue is to give a homeless dog a home. We need more people to get involved and become engaged so more dogs find homes. Penny Jane was a shelter dog adopted by Amy and her husband. For the first two years she was a fearful and an undersocialized dog that has now morphed into a shy, content canine. The book is not just about Penny Jane, but other dogs as well. There is Brody, a jumpy-mouthy dog, Harmony, a dog whose elbows were rejiggered and Bridget, a dog almost put down for her aggressive behavior. “Brody’s owner said he was a biter, but that did not jive with anything we knew about him, the author said. “I brought him home as a behavior foster to observe him. It turned out that he was not biting, but mouthing, just an over excited form of play. He, like most mouthy dogs, overcame the behavior in a stable home. Beyond the dog stories, the author tells of her experiences as a volunteer, providing a foster home and her decision to adopt. One of the saddest parts of the book is her recollections of those who decide to rid themselves of their furry companion by leaving them on the street or bringing them to a shelter. She cautions people about those who “will no longer keep their dog. I have DOG, continued on Page 12

What now for the Raiders?
Lattimore is the No. 1 cornerback in the draft according to Ourlads’, Scouts Inc., ESPN’s Mel Kiper and Todd McShay and most NFL analysts. NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock ranks Lattimore No. 2
Sometime in the not distant future, they will become the Las Vegas Raiders. Until then, likely in 2020, Mark Davis’ team belongs to Oakland. Well, sort of. NFL owners approved the Raiders’ move to Las Vegas 31-1 at the league meetings. Miami was the lone dissenter. Davis insisted the club his father, Hall of Fame owner Al Davis, built into a champion — in Oakland and Los Angeles — should still be considered a part of the Bay Area community. “I wouldn’t use the term lame duck, Davis insisted. “We’re still the Raiders and we represent Raider Nation. “There will be disappointed fans, and it’s important for me to talk to them to explain why and how. As he does so, he also can address what is ahead for a team that, on the field, clearly is on the rise. Yet, questions abound how much support the Raiders can possibly retain in what is now a temporary home. “My emotions are mixed, said coach Jack Del Rio, a Bay Area native. “While I’m sad for family and friends and fans in the Oakland area, I also recognize the tremendous opportunity going forward for our organization. That being said, my mission remains the same. To lead this team here and now. Players and coaches need to understand their defined roles. We all need to bring positive energy everyday as we focus on things that we can control. What they can’t control is community reaction in a place where devotion to the Raiders during their Oakland years — they spent 1982-94 in Los Angeles — has been admirable. Even during all the losing between their last Super Bowl appearance, for the 2002 season, and their next winning record, which came last year, the Black Hole gang has been dedicated. “All the Raiders fans my age, no way you can do it, said Ivan Davis, a fan of the team for a half-century. “Anyone who lived through the first one will not support them. The older Raiders fans, you lost them forever. The ones who gave their life blood to you, you lost them forever. There will be new fans, of course, in a new locale, a place no one imagined the NFL venturing to just a few years ago. But with their $1.7 billion stadium not to be completed before 2020, the Raiders have three seasons to fill playing elsewhere. “We have two more years of lease options for Oakland right now, Davis said. “If the fans would like us to stay there, we’d love to be there for that and possibly talk to them about extending it for

Ohiio State’s Marshon Lattimore is ranked as one of the top cornerbacks in the upcoming NFL Draft.
CORNERBACK OR EDGE COULD BE PICK AT NO. 7 As the NFL Draft quickly approaches we will focus on cornerback and edge pass rusher — two positions where the Chargers need to add depth. With the release of veteran cornerback Brandon Flowers and needing to put more pressure on opposing quarterbacks, some draft prognosticators now have the Chargers selecting a player from one of those positions with its first round pick. Although General Manager Tom Telesco struck gold in the first round last year by selecting defensive end Joey Bosa (Rookie of the Year/10.5 sacks), he needs to replenish both the cornerback and pass

rush positions after the defense gave up 24.6 points per game — the fourth-most points in the NFL last season (Eric Williams/ ESPN). In Jason Verrett and Casey Hayward the Chargers have two of the most talented starting cornerback duos in the league. However, as good as he is, Verrett has
played in just 24 games in three seasons — including just four last season before undergoing season-ending surgery on a torn left ACL. In his first year as a Charger, Hayward led the league with seven interceptions and helped the team finish tied for the league lead in interceptions (18). Despite franchise tagging linebacker Melvin Ingram (8 sacks/ 18.5 the past two seasons), the reason they need to upgrade the pass rush is twofold: First, as insurance in case they can’t ink a long-term contract with Ingram, and second, the defense finished last season ranked 14th in the league with just 35 sacks — tied with the NY Giants. The re-signing of safety Jahleel Addae makes it look as if Malik Hooker, whom many analysts have the Chargers taking with the pick, might not be the guy. With Addae’s signing and Verrett’s injury history, a couple of cornerbacks and edge rushers have now shown up as the Chargers’ first pick in a few updated mock drafts. Here is a closer look at a few prospects.

DoD expands drug testing for recruits By Lisa Ferdinando Army.mil
WASHINGTON — Drug testing for all applicants for military service is expanding to include the same 26-drug panel used for active military members, the Defense Department’s director of drug testing and program policy said. The change, effective April 3, is due to the level of illicit and prescription medication abuse among civilians, as well as the increase in heroin and synthetic drug use within the civilian population, Army Col. TRAILBLAZER ACES INFANTRY SCHOOL Daume first female Marine to graduate

AMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — Marine Pfc. Maria Daume’s life story reads as if she came straight from the pages of a superhero comic. Born in a Siberian prison. Orphaned at age 2. Adopted by Americans at age 4 and raised in New York. And now, she’s just done what many naysayers believed a woman would never do: She’s the first female Marine to join the infantry through the traditional entry-level training process, a process made available to women just a half-year earlier. “I like to prove people wrong, Daume said in her first interview since completing her training at the Marine Corps School of Infantry at Camp Lejuene, N.C. “No matter what your belief is, you can’t argue that

Not only did she graduate from the School of Infantry on March 21, she completed what Infantry Marines argue is one of the most difficult military operational specialties the school has to offer, at a time when instructors say the standards have become “even harder. As a Mortar Marine, she and her peers represent the most rapid response to indirect fire for an infantry unit. And to pass the training required to become one, she and her peers scaled a 142-cm-high (56 inches) wall in full gear within 30 seconds, lifted a 36-kg (about 80 pounds) MK19 heavy machine gun above their heads, evacuated a 97-kg (214 pounds) casualty within 54 seconds while wearing a fighting load, and passed various knowledge skill tests and gun drills. tem with four simulated rounds. That cold night was the moment she knew that she had made the cut to be a Mortar Marine. “I went to sleep that night and I’m lying in my rack, and I’m just like, ‘I did the 20k,’ “ she said, smiling. “It felt good. Daume didn’t just pass the training. She often crushed it, according to one of her trainers. “She was right at the top of the pack, Marine Sgt. Matthew Schneider, a mortar instructor at the school, said. Tears of joy welled up in Daume’s mother’s eyes as people gathered around to congratulate her on graduating from the School of Infantry. A retired Marine walked up to Daume and asked if he could just shake her hand. “You know, you’re part of history, you know that, right? And that’s amazing, he told her.

maybe 2019 as well, and try to bring a championship back to Oakland. The likelihood of the East Bay welcoming the Raiders for a third season at the aging Coliseum they share with the Athletics — the only such NFL/MLB arrangement remaining — isn’t high. Mayor Libby Schaaf has accused Davis and the league of not “manning up, and other legislators have mentioned finding ways to void the two years of stadium options the Raiders have negotiated. Davis said any season ticket holders who have already paid for next season will get full refunds if they seek them. While 2019 is not nearly upon us, Davis needs a concrete plan for that season, including finding a training facility as well as a stadium. amongst his top cornerbacks. Most draftniks have Lattimore being taken in the top five selections, however, Will Brinson (CBS Sports) and Matt Miller (Bleacher Report) have the former Buckeye sliding down to the Chargers. Brinson: “The Chargers add another cornerback, giving them a ridiculous trio as they combine Lattimore with Casey Hayward and Jason Verrett. That’s a stacked secondary. Miller: “Of late, many feel that the Chargers are going to address their secondary by adding another cornerback. The Chargers have two talented players at that position, but with Jason Verrett’s health concerns, it may not be a bad idea. The Chargers have clearly showed they don’t value the safety position and if they are going to select a defensive back, it would likely be corner.
Marlon Humphrey 6-0, 198, CB, Alabama Humphrey is an interesting prospect in that Ourlads’ ranks him No. 18 overall and No. 4 amongst cornerbacks and Mayock has Humphrey as his No. 3 cornerback. Scouts Inc., Kiper and McShay don’t have Humphrey ranked in the top 32 prospects on their big boards. Despite the discrep-
Alabama’s Marlon Humphrey gets mixed reviews from draft prognosticators, but could be the Chargers’ pick for cornerback.
ancy of those analysts, O.J. Howard (CBS Sports.com) and Dan Kadar (SB Nation) both have Humphrey going to the Chargers at No. 7. White: “Here’s the first spot where I think an offensive lineman can come off the board, as the Chargers could use another tackle even after signing Russell Okung. However, I think they’ll benefit most from adding Humphrey to the secondary to replace Brandon Flowers and give themselves insurance at the position with Jason Verrett recovering from a torn ACL. Casey Hayward is plenty capable of lining up in the slot if everyone is healthy,
giving the Chargers secondary the ability to stack up with any passing attack. Kadar: “The Chargers have the pieces necessary on the line and at linebacker to fit Gus Bradley’s defense. But what they don’t have is the type of big cornerback he prefers. At just over 6’0, Humphrey is a solid fit who plays physical.
Solomon Thomas 6-3, 273, OLB/DE, Stanford With Texas A&M’s DE Myles Garrett the consensus No. 1 pick overall, many analysts believe Thomas could be the sec-
ond edge rusher off the board. Ranked No. 6 overall by Ourlads’, No. 4 by Scouts Inc., No. 3 by Kiper, No. 4 by McShay and the fourth-best edge rusher by Mayock, it appears that Thomas will be picked in the top 10. Tony Iosso (Cover 32) have the Chargers taking Thomas in his latest mock draft. Iosso: “Los Angeles was able to retain pass rusher Melvin Ingram by way of the franchise tag, as well as keeping safety Jahleel Addae, both filling areas of need. Corner could be a consideration here as the team recently parted ways with Brandon Flowers. However I opted to give them Solomon Thomas who could play across from Ingram to form a devastating pass rush. The Endzone: It is no secret that new defensive coordinator Gus Bradley likes tall, physical cornerbacks manning his secondary. There are a number of talented cornerbacks in this draft that both fit the mold that Bradley likes and could still be on the board in the second round should Telesco go in a different direction at No. 7. Washington Huskies’ cornerback Kevin King could be one such player. At 6-3, 200-pounds King has the size, speed and talent that Bradley likes. Although two draftniks picked Humphrey to go the Chargers in the first round, with all the talent at cornerback he might just be available when they pick at No. 38 in the second round.

Junior had just received his brand new drivers license. The family trooped out to the driveway, and climbed into the car, where he was about to take them for a ride for the first time. Dad immediately headed for the back seat, directly behind the newly minted driver. “I’ll bet you’re back there to get a change of scenery after all those months of sitting in the front passenger seat teaching me how to drive, said the beaming boy to the ol’ man. “Nope, came dad’s reply. “I’m gonna sit here and kick the back of your seat as you drive, just like you’ve been doing to me all these years.

tionally in the fleet Marine force based on class-rank and availability. If selected to work with jets, officers go to NAS Meridian, Miss., where they attend an Advanced Training course to “earn their wings. As part of an F/A-18 aviator’s final training, they arrive at VMFAT-101 to become fully qualified F/A-18 fighter pilots. “I look forward to finally serving the Marine Corps as a part of the aviation combat element in a Marine air-ground task force, said Rickenbach. Although VMFAT-101 is a training squadron, the overall mission could not be accomplished without the Marines and sailors who maintain the aircraft for the students to participate in flight operations. “101 is different than a deployable
F-18 squadron because of its size,â€? said Sgt. Elizabeth Coble, the noncommissioned officer in charge of the communication and navigation section of VMFAT-101. “It’s fast-paced here‌we are flying constantly day in and day out.â€? According to Coble, maintainers who are stationed with the squadron, have a unique experience advantage over Marines stationed with a deployable F/A18 squadron. “Because we have all four models of the F-18, we are able to get our hands on different discrepancies, you don’t normally face with a typical gun squadron,â€? said Coble. “Without the knowledge to fix the aircraft, the students aren’t able to fly and can’t accomplish the squadron’s mission.â€?

Becoming a designated Marine Corps F/A-18 aviator takes almost four years of training, according to Meredith. Officers must commission in the Marine Corps as a second lieutenant and graduate from The Basic School in Quantico, Va. Aviation officers are then sent to Naval Air Station Pensacola to attend Aviation Pre-Flight Indoctrination school for six weeks. changed my outlook after volunteering and doing the research for this book. Some people have their back up against the wall. For example, a single mother with three kids that must move into a housing complex that will not allow dogs.â€? As with U.S. military dogs that were euthanized at the end of each war, so were many shelter animals. “Robby’s Lawâ€? was passed after the Vietnam War to prevent euthanization of four-legged warriors. Sutherland tells of those, like Rick Avanzino, who fought to change the euthanasia rates in civilian settings, specifically shelters. Often called the father of the no-kill movement he believes that within his lifetime every animal in the U.S. will have a home. The book explains that today “shelter dogs have become popular, even a status symbol ‌ people proudly introduce their mutts as rescues, almost as if they were a sought after breed.â€? In explaining the term, Sutherland wants readers to understand, “A ‘no-kill’ shelter is one where 90 percent of the animals leave alive. This takes into account that some dogs do need to be put down. “Many shelters will not take in certain dogs because they don’t want to be in the position to have to put a dog down. For example, they will not take in hopeless medical cases or dogs that are very challenging behaviorally.â€? What is heart wrenching is the discussion about older dogs. Unlike military dogs that are often adopted at about 9 years of age, many senior dogs are not as popular. Older dogs have a harder time getting adopted. Rudy is an example of the perfectly behaved dog, but his crime is his age, 10-years-old. Even those who already own a dog can learn something. Sutherland gives a shout out to Patricia McConnell, who teaches owners how to get along with their dogs through positive training methods instead of swats and collar jerks. Amy even tweeted a link to how to find a good trainer, and to make sure owners do their homework, because not all are created equal. The beginning of the book touches on what happens to people after losing a dog. There are those who will never get another dog, some who will get one right away and those who will wait. Feelings of being heart broken, too loyal, too needy and companionship all come into play.“I consider having a dog a fairy tale friendship, which is why I wrote in the book, ‘the beauty of dogs is that you can look into their eyes endlessly ‌ they never grow up. They are always our children,’â€? she said. “My goal is to always have a dog. It’s a form of attachment of having an elemental bond, the camaraderie, and having them greet you after you arrive home.â€? A quote in the book, “I don’t know how you do it,â€? hammers home the point that there are very special people out there like Amy, whether volunteering at an animal shelter, fostering animals at home or providing a home to a needy dog. “I agree volunteering can be hard on your heart,â€? Sutherland said. “The overriding feeling is that I am helping these dogs through a tough phase. It is not easy but you get used to it. I saw what I could do and was willing to do for a dog.â€? This is a great book for any animal lover. The stories told will illicit emotions from happiness to sadness. But readers will also learn about shelters, dog training, and the absolute need for dogs to be rescued. XXX NJMJUBSZQSFTT DPN t OFXT!NJMJUBSZQSFTT DPN
