Matilda By Nick Como, Downtown Alliance

The printed word is alive and well, and downtown Salt Lake City has several great places to bury your nose in a good book. Here are a few of our favorites, each of which would make Matilda proud! KEN SANDERS RARE BOOKS Opened in 1990 (in a previous location) Ken Sanders, both the man and the store, are a book lover’s dream come true. With over 100,000 (no, that’s not a typo!) books in stock, there’s a lifetime worth of reading available. You’ll find everything from paperbacks to novels to rare first-edition hardcovers - some dating over a century old. No matter how many books they sell, it seems as though the shelves stay packed from end to end, with stacks upon stacks of books eager to be read. Then, there is Ken Sands himself. Always quick with a one-liner, Ken is a treasure trove of wisdom, stretching from local lore to an expansive knowledge of history. No wonder: with a collection that rivals a small town library at his disposal,

there is no shortage of reading options for him. 268 S 200 East. EBORN BOOKS With over 30,000 square feet of books, Eborn is a quiet sanctuary just steps from the TRAX line and the bustle of Main Street. Just one block south of the Eccles Theater, and adjacent to the equally comfortable Coffee Garden on Main Street, this well organized outpost has titles on topics that run the gamut. Eborn specializes in a variety of Mormon and Utahrelated books, with a large inventory on both subjects. In fact, Eborn (who have six locations) is the World’s Largest Supplier of Mormon titles. Eborn also publishes a variety of new books, including books on Mormon history, doctrine and biography, and also reprints old Mormon classics. 254 South Main Street

sun for light and heat in winter one of the first modern downtown buildings to harness the power of nature. Positioned to offer views of the Wasatch Mountains from both inside the building, as well as adjacent Library Square, the SLCPL is a must from just an architectural marvel standpoint. The rooftop garden and observation deck is also a breathtaking vantage point, providing 360 degree views of the City & County building, the downtown skyline, the University of Utah and the snowcapped peaks to the east.
