Director’s Note Dear Patron, Thriller was a huge hit again with two companies for the eleventh year in a row and 57 performances in seven different locations—new this year: Price and Pocatello! Next, we will have our Spring Repertory Season Shut Up and Dance, February 27 to March 9, 2019, where we will be celebrating Odyssey’s 25th Year Anniversary! We will be doing 3 different programs in Repertory - Chicago Nights - the huge hit from last season, the return of Romeo + Juliet - One Funky Tale, and a very special show called Reflections where Odyssey will bring back many wonderful works created on Odyssey through the years and finishing up with the Bee Gees’ step back into Disco Heaven - Dance Fever! Be sure to see all three amazing productions! After Shut Up and Dance we’re off on our 14th consecutive European tour--shows every night in a different city with standing room only and standing ovations! ReduxNut-Cracker patrons get a 10% discount if you buy your Shut Up and Dance tickets by December 22nd. As you many know, ODT did a promotional tease for this show on television which inaccurately portrayed the Asian American community. We were contacted by, and met with, community leaders who helped us with invaluable information about the Asian American culture. Even though we meant no harm, we learned that what we had done was hurtful. On behalf of our company and myself, we apologized, and, working together with the Asian American community, we have reworked portions of our show. We are thankful for our new community partners who have shown understanding, and grace. Honestly, ODT is a work in progress as we continue to learn and grow. As a result of our new ongoing relationship, we feel confident in the future as we promise to you, our beloved audience and patrons, that ODT will never stop innovating, adapting, and creating new experiences for you. So, without further ado, we are proud to present our 2018 rendition of The Redux Nut-Cracker!” Thanks to all of you for your support and attendance. Happy Holidays! Derryl To the Audience of ODT’s REDUX Nut-Cracker, On November 14, 2018, in a promotional tease for the show, a brief segment was shown which was culturally and racially insensitive. In the wake of concern from the community, members of ODT met with representatives from the individuals and organizations listed below. We are pleased that ODT’s company and management has made a sincere apology and sought our input to avoid further unfortunate mis-steps. As a result of our input, portions of the program have been reworked. Keep in mind that the sequence you will see represents a fantasy world and is not an attempt to portray our Asian American community. While this, and every ODT performance, is a work in progress, we are pleased that our collaboration has led to a better understanding and a new relationship between the company and our community Michael Kwan, President, Chinese Railroad Workers Descendants Association.
