DIRECTOR’S NOTES ANTICI…(say it!)...PATION! Have you ever done the Time Warp? Or are you a virgin? No matter! All are welcome to the second year of Pioneer Theatre Company’s concert of The Rocky Horror Show. (For the record, I lost my Rocky Horror virginity at the famous Waverly Theatre in the West Village in New York City and I had never experienced anything like it!) After the tremendous response we got last year we simply had to bring this back. There are a few changes to keep you on your toes—and, of course, we’re delighted to have Will Swenson coming home to Salt Lake to play Frank this year. I’m hopeful that this is only the beginning for our musical concert series here at PTC. There are so many wonderful musicals out there—new, old, large, small—and not enough weeks in the year (or dollars in the budget!) to produce them all. But as add-ons in our season, this new program lets some of these gems shine. Though slightly scaled back in some areas, we will always present the entire show with a superbly talented cast. So if you like this format—let us know! Now grab your newspaper, confetti, frankfurter, and let me take you—if I may—on a strange journey… Karen Azenberg PTC Artistic Director

National tour credits: First National Tour of Rent, The Sisters Rosensweig, Lost in Yonkers, Laughter on the 23rd Floor, Driving Miss Daisy, Grease and Those Were the Days. He also spent nine years as an SM and ASM at Indiana Repertory Theatre, where he worked on too many shows to list. In addition to stage management, Mericola served as Assistant and Head Props on several Broadway shows, including Movin’ Out, The Odd Couple, The Drowsy Chaperone and Wicked. ANALYSHA MULCOCK (Assistant Stage Manager) is excited to return to this position with Pioneer Theatre Company after working on Fiddler on the Roof, The Music Man, I Hate Hamlet, The Crucible, Alabama Story, Peter and

the Starcatcher, One Man, Two Guvnors, Sweet Charity, A Few Good Men and Something’s Afoot. A graduate of the stage management program at the University of Utah, some of her other credits include A Flea in Her Ear (Babcock Theatre), Geography Club (Studio 115), Rare Bird (Babcock Theatre), Sylvia and Songs for a New World (Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts). She would like to thank her family for all of their love and support. RICHARD O’BRIEN (Music, Books and Lyrics) was born Richard Smith in Cheltenham, England. His family moved to Tauranga, New Zealand, in 1951 when his father, an accountant, decided to become a sheep farmer. Smith moved back to England in 1964 and changed his name to Richard O’Brien, which was his maternal grandmother’s name, and became a movie stuntman and fringe theater actor. In 1972, director Jim Sharman cast him in the dual roles of Apostle and Leper for the London stage production of Jesus Christ Superstar; the pair also worked together later on a production of Sam Shepard’s The Unseen Hand. O’Brien mentioned to Sharman a new rock musical he’d been writing, which was then called Rock Horroar. The play went into rehearsals with Sharman as its director under the title They Came from Denton High, and was retitled The Rocky Horror Show before opening in June 1973. O’Brien also co-wrote the screenplay of the 1975 film adaptation The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and appeared in the film as the character Riff Raff. O’Brien still works as a successful actor, writer, broadcaster, voice actor and theater performer. RICH COLE (Casting) has happily served as PTC’s casting director since 2001. He has helped to populate more than 500 shows for Broadway, off-Broadway, National Tours, London, Dublin, Vienna and over thirty-five of this nation’s major regional theatres. For this work, the Casting Society of America thrice nominated him for the prestigious Artios Award. Also a director and playwright, he is the founding Artistic Director of New York’s The THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW

WHO’S WHO IN THE COMPANY Urban Rock Project, whose critically acclaimed production of Patriot Acts was one of the highlights of a recent New York International Fringe Festival. His play Unnatural Acts won the 2002 OOBR Award for Excellence. Rich made his Salt Lake City directing debut with The Caucasian Chalk Circle for the U of U’s Department of Theatre. BOB CLINE (Casting) is the founder of Bob Cline Casting in New York City, and Broadway World recently named him one of New York’s 10 best. He has cast film, TV, commercials, over 70 national tours, and numerous regional theaters across the country. Independently or in his association with Rich Cole since 1994 he has cast for The Pioneer Theater Company, The Fulton Theatre, Maltz- Jupiter Theatre, The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, and many many others. Bob is also a proud faculty member in

Pace University’s Theatre program in charge of the Senior BFA musical Theatre majors, for the last 10 years. Nights when he is not directing shows, he can be found directing students in one of the two audition classes he teaches weekly, for the last 18 years, through the Actor’s loft. ACTORS’ EQUITY ASSOCIATION (AEA) founded in 1913 represents more than 45,000 actors and stage managers in the United States. Equity seeks to advance, promote and foster the art of live theatre as an essential component of our society. Equity negotiates wages and working conditions, providing a wide range of benefits, including health and pension plans. AEA is a member of the AFL-CIO, and is affiliated with FIA, an international organization of performing arts unions. For more information, visit www.actorsequity.org.

Tickets are non-refundable. You may donate your tickets, helping yourself and Pioneer Theatre Company. If you are unable to attend a production, make a tax-deductible gift of your tickets to the Theatre so that we may re-sell them. Call the box office 48 hours prior to the performance date.
