Director’s Note Welcome to The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales. I am very excited to have directed this play. I absolutely love fairy tales - especially fractured fairy tales, I also have loved working with this cast and-

“FE FI FO FOM!!!!” Giant, wait, what are you doing here? You can’t interrupt my director’s note.

“I DON’T LIKE THIS NOTE.” Well, this isn’t about you liking it. It is my space to tell the audience about this amazing play they’re about to see that I directed so brilliantly.

“FE FI FO FOTE - I WILL WRITE MY OWN DIRECTOR’S NOTE!” Oh, you think you can do better?

“I WILL WRITE MY NOTE NOW.” Great, Giant. Can’t wait to hear it. I’m sure it will be so good.

“GIANT DIRECTOR NOTE. AND NOW ENJOY THE SHOW. IN THIS PLAY STUPID ACTORS SING SONG. STINKY CHEDDAR MAN RUNS SLOW. THIS DIRECTOR THINKS SHE’S SMART BUT SHE DUMB. I WILL CRUSH HER BONES TO MAKE BONE BREAD. HELLO. WELCOME TO PLAY.” That’s it? That’s your director’s note? That’s the worst director’s note I’ve ever read. But, I guess it kind of works because this is the silliest play I’ve ever seen. So I guess what I’m trying to say, Giant, is … thanks?

“YOU BETTER HAVE MAKE GOOD PLAY OR I WILL DEFINITELY GRIND YOUR BONES TO MAKE BREAD.” Um … ok. I’m gonna get right on that.

Penny

and THE GIANT

P.S. Enjoy the show!

BLACK GRACE• MARCH 22

Kingsbury Hall Led by Neil Ieremia, Black Grace is New Zealand’s leading contemporary dance company, fusing Pacific and contemporary dance in an extraordinary and dynamic form. Neil draws from his Samoan and New Zealand roots to create innovative dance works that reach across social, cultural, and generational barriers. The performances are highly physical, rich in the story telling traditions of the South Pacific, and expressed with raw finesse, unique beauty, and power.

UPRIGHT CITIZENS BRIGADE TOURING CO• APRIL 14

Kingsbury Hall Founded by Amy Poehler (SNL, Parks and Recreation), Upright Citizens Brigade Touring Company performs a night of provocative sketch comedy and absurd improv. An incubation lab for upcoming talent, the cast is hand-picked from the best improv comedians in the country and has included Jack McBrayer (30 Rock), Horatio Sanz (SNL), Ellie Kemper (Unbreakable Kimmie Schmidt, Bridesmaids), and Rob Corddry (The Daily Show), among many others.

LA RONDINE • APRIL 21-22

Kingsbury Hall PERFORMED BY UNIVERSITY LYRIC OPERA ENSEMBLE AND UTAH PHILHARMONIA Performed first in 1917, Puccini’s La Rondine blends love, passion, longing, and religious constricts amidst the changing morals and societal expectations of the late 19th Century. A touching love story brews in operetta style as we hear waltzes, polkas, and even a tango. A devastating ending features a full-throttled Puccini score that is on par with his best works. Rarely performed, this Puccini is an under-appreciated gem, so you won’t want to miss it. Tickets and information at utahpresents.org
