Milwaukee Urban League and Wisconsin Office of State Treasurer presents "What Does Retirement Security Mean to You?" On Wednesday, January 29, 2020, the Milwaukee Urban League, the Wisconsin Office of State Treasurer, and member of Governor Evers Retirement Security Task Force hosted a listening session to hear from Wisconsinites on the challenges they face adequately saving for retirement and also addressing the retirement crisis in Wisconsin. The panel was held at the Milwaukee Urban League offices, 435 W. North Ave. Among those present on the panel were The Milwaukee Urban League's President and CEO Dr. Eve M. Hall (upper inset) and State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski (lower insert). Wisconsin's aging population is expected to increase by 60 percent by 2030, and many have no way to save for retirement. The state is looking at options to help those with the possibility of a state-facilitated retirement savings program.

Modeling God’s love during Valentine’s month and beyond! (Week 3) “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” - John 3:16 What is God’s love? God’s love can be best expressed by the Greek word, agapao. Agapao love is determined love. It is love in action! God’s love was determined to save humankind from their sins, therefore, God in His great love, sent His only begotten Son, Jesus the Christ, to die on the Cross for our sins; Jesus demonstrated God’s special love in that while we were yet in our sin, Christ died for us! (Romans 5:8.) At the Cross, God placed the full weight of His love on display to be seen and accepted by all! Beloved, we deserved punishment for our sin, instead God gave us heaven! Praise God! This week in continuation of this series, I will present another great way of modeling God’s
love – that is, telling others about Jesus. Tell others about Jesus In the Great Commission, Jesus said, we must first “go” and evangelize by sharing the gospel. The word “evangelism” is expressed in the New Testament Greek Lexicon as “euaggelizo” which means to bring the good news; to announce glad tidings. Proclaiming the gospel to others is grounded in a command we all have been given in Matthew 28:19-20. Every Christian’s response to the Great Commission is to commit to sharing the gospel with others. There are many ways we can spread the gospel of Jesus verbally and sometimes without even saying a word. Here are a few suggestions: 1. Share ways God has been active in your life. 2. Share ways God has changed your life. 3. Open the door of a person’s heart by simple acts
of kindness. 4. Send text messages that includes a Scripture or an inspirational “Thought of the Day.” 5. Use your social media presence to share your thankfulness that Christ died for your sins and how much God means to you! You do not have to be a theologian or Bible scholar to show God’s love by telling others about Jesus; simply plant the seed in a person’s heart of the Good News
of Jesus and God will come along through the ministry of the Holy Spirit and can soften a person’s heart to receive the Gospel! Sharing the Good News is a wonderful way to encourage a person that the only way to find true love is by trusting in Jesus. Encourage your youth and teens to also share the gospel message. A Gospel Generation: Bible Studies for Youth Around the Globe (Lester, Judith T., Townsend Press, Nashville, 2017) offers small group bible studies to teach young people to share their faith. A Gospel Generation is translated into more than 100 languages and is available to youth/teen groups all over the world. Follow the link at: https://www.sspbnbc.com/ store/books-bibles/books/ a-gospel-generation-biblestudies-for-youth-aroundthe-globe/ A prayer for you: Heavenly Father, may we all accept the challenge of showing
God’s love to everyone we meet, friend, foe or stranger. One of the best ways we can show God’s love is by sharing the gospel of Jesus the Christ with someone who does not know the Christ. Amen. It’s true:
Women, you can prevent cervical cancer. One of the best things you can do to keep from getting cervical cancer is get regular testing for it. The Pap test looks for changes in the cervix that could lead to cancer. By treating these changes, most cervical cancers can be stopped before they happen. Changes in the cervix that can lead to cancer are mostly caused by a virus called the human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV infections can lead to cervical (and several other kinds) of cancer. Your doctor or nurse can tell you how often you need to have a Pap test. If you’re over 30, you should get an HPV test done at the same time as your Pap test to see if you have the kinds of HPV that can lead to cancer. Women who don’t get tested, or who don’t get tested as often as they should, have the highest chance of getting cervical cancer.
If you have cervical cancer, the Pap test can help catch it early, when it’s small and may be easier to treat. Most people don’t know if they have HPV, so it’s important to get tested regularly. Even if you’ve gotten the HPV vaccine and/or you’re done having children, you still need to get regular Pap and HPV tests through age 65.
For more information about HPV and its link to cervical cancer, visit cancer.org/ PapTest or call the American Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345. LANGUAGE ©2018, American Cancer Society, Inc. No. 080524 Rev. 11/18 Models used for illustrative purposes only.

The Martin Luther King Economic Development Corporation (MLKEDC) is seeking proposals for the preparation of its yearly audited financial statements and related filings for a three-year period beginning with the 2019 fiscal year ending on December 31, 2019. Our organization does not require a federal single audit. The audit of MLKEDC’s financial statements must be performed in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards. MLKEDC is a 501(c)(3) organization established in 1993 to revitalize the Harambee neighborhood in the City of Milwaukee. MLKEDC’s mission is to engage in entrepreneurial initiatives to create wealth and jobs, provide technical assistance to area businesses and develop quality, affordable rental and owner-occupied housing. Since 1998, the main focus of the organization has been on the development of affordable housing and commercial and office facilities that serve the Harambee neighborhood. Since its founding, MLKEDC has been directly responsible for over $50 million of real estate development which in turn has leveraged millions of dollars of additional investment in the surrounding neighborhood. MLKEDC owns and manages 190 affordable housing units, of which 142 are held in four different limited liability companies, some involving partnerships with other entities. These LLC’s are audited separately and are not the subject of this RFP, although the results of those audits may impact the audit of MLKEDC. MLKEDC is also involved in the ownership and management of approximately 75,000 sq. ft. of office and retail space, approximately half is managed directly by MLKEDC and half is managed through another entity. In addition to its management portfolio, MLKEDC is also engaged in new real estate development activity involving the acquisition and rehab of existing, single-family homes for resale to owneroccupants as well as the development of new, multi-family, mixed-use projects. MLKEDC has received government funding from Community Block Grant Administration of the City of Milwaukee, from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation and Office of Community Service in the federal Department of Health and Human Services. MLKEDC also multiple financial relationships with WHEDA. MLKEDC’s staff consists of two part-time staff. MLKEDC has total assets of approximately $15 million and our annual revenue has ranged between $970,000 and $1.2 million and over the past 3 years. MLKEDC requires the following services: 1. Annual financial statement audit. 2. Preparation of IRS form 990 3. Preparation of Charitable Organization Annual Report for the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions. 4. Management letter
All of the above must be completed within 180 days of the end of each fiscal year, in order for our Board to review each document prior to its submission to the appropriate recipients. In addition, MLKEDC requires that a meeting of the auditors and select MLKEDC board and staff members be held to discuss a draft version of the financial statements and that the auditors meet at least yearly with the Board of Directors. All proposals must include: a) Evidence of the firm’s qualifications to provide the above services; b) Background and experience in auditing nonprofit clients involved in real estate development activity; c) The size and organizational structure of the auditor’s firm; d) Statement of the firm’s understanding of work to be performed, including tax and non-audit services; f) A proposed timeline for fieldwork and final reporting; g) Proposed fee structure for each of the three years of the proposal period, including whatever guarantees can be given regarding increases in future years, and the maximum fee that would be charged; h) Describe your billing rates and procedures for technical questions that may come up during the year, or whether these occasional services are covered in the proposed fee structure; i) Names of the partner, audit manager, and field staff who will be assigned to our audit and provide biographies. j) A copy of your firm’s most recent peer review report, the related letter of comments, and the firm’s response to the letter of comments; and k) References and contact information from at least 3 comparable nonprofit audit clients.
