There Is Something About That Name

He was a wood-worker living in a small town in the Middle East under the Roman Empire. His public career was confined to the last few years of His short life and was apparently unsuccessful. He went about healing and helping, teaching and preaching. In His love for men He literally gave Himself away in the service of others. At the same time He experienced hunger, homelessness and tiredness. He knew what sorrow was like in the death of His friends and loneliness when deserted by others. Living in an occupied country in an age of cruelty, He faced strong opposition; yet He would not waver or evade the final issue. He enjoyed the company of others and befriended the outcasts, the unwanted, and the social misfits. In His care and concern for these He knew no limits. Strong in character and will, He was yet gentle to the weak and helpless. But wherever He found evil or hypocrisy He fearlessly condemned it. Then, because of His love for ordinary men and women - He died for them...but that was not the end - He rose again and lives today! There has to be something about that name - that name JESUS! Any followers ???

Obituary

Order of Service

Robert Earl McGhee , affectionately known as “Slim”

Musical Prelude……………………………………………………………

or “Rob Dog”, was born on May 7, 1954 to the late Golden McGhee and Vera L. Reed in Suttle, Alabama. His early childhood years were spent with Geneva Bennett, “Mama G”. By nine years old, his mother remarried following the death of Golden McGhee, and the family relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Robert received his formal education from Milwaukee Public Schools. His love for cars and passion for girls superceded him graduating from high school. That obstacle never stopped him from achieving and getting what he needed. He would later receive his GED. As an adult, Robert was a tireless worker with several jobs where he built lasting relationships. While living in the Mt. Zion Apartments, the door was open for Robert to attend services at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. He went gladly and shared wholeheartedly the message every Sunday; Robert eventually became a member of Mt. Zion. His infectious smile and spirited enthusiasm set him apart, both at church and in the apartment communities. Making coffee every day for the residents was his gift, up until his passing. Slamming dominoes, playing chess and outtalking everyone were his releases. Robert was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in 2002. This disease did not get him down...except a fall in the laundry basket or wedged between the bed and the wall. Robert was an eternal optimist and very stubborn, being Taurus the bull on full display. Robert Earl McGhee became a member of the “no mores” on Thursday, June 16, 2016. He shared along with Beverly Williams, a loving daughter, Karen (Gregory) Powell and two beautiful grandchildren, Kiara and Gregory Jr. He also leaves to cherish his memory: his mother, Vera L. Reed; one aunt, Dorothy Edwards of Alabama; three brothers, James of Phoenix, Arizona, Tony and Danny; three sisters, Vernita of Texas, Tammy and Lisa; and a host of loving nephews and great nephews, nieces and great nieces, cousins, special friends and family.
