He began working at an early age. Walter wanted to buy a car at the age of 16, and he did. Later on, he later worked at Patrick Cudahy meat packing plant. He became employed by International Trucking (Navistar) as a molder for 21 years until his retirement. Walter was hardworking and loved his job. His coworkers called him “Bam Bam”. He never missed a Union meeting. In his leisure, Walter enjoyed fishing, barbecuing, traveling, playing pool (in his younger days), being outdoors, watching Westerns, and playing scratch-offs with a cigarette hanging from his lip. He was very grateful for his family that became caregivers during his home hospice: his wife, Betty; daughter, Lynn; granddaughter, Mercedes; and grandson, Tony (Tashekia). Walter L. Burt departed this life on April 18, 2016, after fighting a long illness. He was preceded in death by his mother, Essie D. Burt; father, Willie Ed Burt; brothers, “Georgie Boy”, Ray C. Burt and James Burt; sister, Jean Nash. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Betty Jean Burt; son, Anthony Burt; stepdaughters, Melinda (Moses) Marshall, Theresa King and Barbara King; stepson, Peter King; brothers, Monte Burt and Royal Burt; sisters, Mary Burt and Doris Owens; one aunt; special cousin, Larry Burt of California; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
