Welcome to The Dragon Bar. Based in Old Street, London the bar was opened in 1998 as a breeding ground for artist and musicians.
Over the past ten years the bar has welcomed many artists, djs, and bands through their doors. It has now come to a time where it must leave its current home to set up anew somewhere else.
This is my way of giving something back to the bar that made London my home. Big love and peace to the Dragon, you are missed.

THE SEASONAL EXHIBITION, ENTITLED SANTA’S GHETTO, BEGAN LIFE SIX YEARS AGO AS AN “ANARCHIC CONCEPT GALLERY” ABOVE AN EAST END PUB, AND HAS BECOME A LONDON INSTITUTION. 03-12-07
I suggest we call the program Arts A Drag? Because it is. Because of all the pretentious bullshit its wrapped in! Because most art around at the moment is a load of bollocks! Because its trendy! Because we are bound yet freed by Art and that sucks! And obviously because Drag can be derived from Dragon.

THE IDEA BEHIND THE BOOK CAME TO ME ONE DAY WHILE I WAS SITTING AT THE BAR HAVING A DRINK AND CHECKING OUT ALL THE STICKERS ON THE WINDOW BEHIND THE BAR. IT GAVE ME AN IDEA AND SO IT BEGAN. THE IDEA BEHIND IT WAS THAT EACH PAGE WOULD DISPLAY A DIFFERENT ARTIST, ALL WITH AT LEAST ONE SIMILARITY, THEY’VE BEEN TO THE DRAGON AND LEFT THEIR MARK.

BACK IN 1998 THE DRAGON BAR WAS THE ONLY VENUE IN THE OLD STREET AREA AND PROBABLY ALL OF EAST LONDON THAT ALLOWED ARTIST FROM ALL DISCIPLINES TO EXHIBIT THEIR WORK IN A FREE AND MODERN GALLERY SPACE.
I WANTED TO INCORPORATE EACH ARTISTS WORK INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE BAR. THIS WAY YOU COULD SEE THE BIGGER PICTURE. YOU CAN SEE HOW THE BAR HAS BEEN SUCH AN INFLUENTIAL PLACE FOR THE MODERN ARTIST, AND HOW YEARS ON FROM NOW PEOPLE WILL LOOK BACK AND SAY, DO YOU REMEMBER THAT BAR WHERE YOU COULD DRAW ALL OVER THE WALLS, WHAT HAPPENED TO IT?
