Marcos addresses sugar shortage where he raised the need to assess how the government can increase the supply of quality sugar for food manufacturing to protect local jobs. “It has become a worrisome problem. We are doing all of these things to protect the jobs of workers in those industries. So we are studying several measures that we can take to immediately increase the supply of sugar in the country,” he said. Marcos said the government is also working on sugar prices and is in talks with traders for them to bring down the prices of the commodity. “Hopefully, we can get some concessions with the traders so that at least the pricing will be reasonable. The concern is the supply right now. Avoid close skin-to-skin contact with suspected cases, especially those with rashes or open wounds. Keep hands clean. Wear a face mask. Cover coughs using the elbow, and choose areas with good airflow,” the DOH said, adding that anyone may get Monkeypox. “If you have a travel history to countries with Monkeypox, and then have symptoms like fever, lymphadenopathy or “kulani”, and rashes, seek immediate medical attention. ZAMBOANGA CITY - Rhodora Ventolero, a hardworking mother of five, patiently sews her daughter's school uniform, skipping her lunch break to finish a pair of long pants. The genus contains more than 2,000 different plant species. The Begonias are native to moist subtropical and tropical climates. Some species are commonly grown indoors as ornamental houseplants in cooler climates. In cooler climates some species are cultivated outside in summertime for their bright colorful flowers, which have sepals but no petals.In ongoing taxonomic studies of the genus Begonia, the researchers and their collaborators collected a population of peculiar Begonia section Petermannia species, according to a report by Phys.org. The report, attributed to Zhang Nannan of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said after meticulously examining its morphology and comparing it with protologues and available digitized type specimens from across the Philippines and neighboring countries, the researchers confirmed it as a subspecies of Begonia bangsamoro that is new to science.The new subspecies was named as Begonia bangsamoro subp. Bagasa and published in Phytotaxa. It is the 17th representative of the genus Begonia for Zamboanga Peninsula.Thenew subspecies is a terrestrial, monoecious, perennial herb, up to 30 cm long. It differs from Begonia bangsamoro subspecies bangsamoro in having staminate and pistillate flowers with much narrower and elongate tepals.The new subspecies is endemic to the Zamboanga Peninsula. It was found in deeply shaded lower montane forest with damp soil growing along the trail with an elevation of 700–900 m a.s.l. It was also found growing as a terrestrial, lithophyte and as a climber on tree ferns. The conservation status of the new subspecies is proposed as “least concern” following the International Union for Conservation of Nature Standards.TheMount Timolan Protected Landscape is a protected area covering Mount Timolan and its surrounding forested landscape. The park encompasses an area of 1,994.79 hectares (4,929.2 acres) and a buffer zone of 695.39 hectares (1,718.3 acres) in the municipalities of San Miguel, Guipos and ItTigbao.wasestablished on August 14, 2000 through Proclamation Order No. 354 issued by then President Joseph Estrada. The park was also earlier established by the provincial government of Zamboanga del Sur as a provincial park and wildlife sanctuary known as the Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Park through Provincial Ordinance No. 3 in 1992. The presence of various microhabitats is reflected in the diversity of flora and fauna found there. However, limited information is available and biodiversity studies are scarce up until now. We have to do our best to see to it that we always have purity of intention in everything that we do, so that we only love and serve God, and because of that, we can properly love and serve everybody else. This concern was somehow referred to in that gospel episode where Christ lamented over the hypocrisy and inconsistency of the leading Jews at that time. (cfr. Mt 23,13-22) “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You lock the Kingdom of heaven before men. You do not enter yourselves, nor do you allow entrance to those trying to enter,” he said. When our intentions are not pure, when they are contaminated with ulterior motives, there is no way but for us to fall into some form of inconsistencies and improper priorities. We should be very careful with our intentions. Since they are hidden, we can easily play around with them. We can appear good outside but bad inside. Our deeds may be considered as acts of generosity and compassion, but the intentions may be those of envy, conceit and the like. In determining the morality of our human acts, intention plays a very crucial role. Together with the matter or object, and the circumstances surrounding our acts, our intention can determine whether they are good or bad. With our intention, we can direct our acts to God, following what was once indicated by St. Paul, “Whether you eat or drink, or whatsoever else you do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Cor 10,31) That’s how our acts become good, or moral. Otherwise, they are bad, or at least dangerous. This is so, since God, being the Creator, is the standard for everything. And more than the standard, he is, in fact, the very substance of what is good, true and beautiful, what is fair and just, what is perfection Nothingitself. is good, true and beautiful, nothing is fair and just, nothing is perfect if it is not done with God and for God. In short, we need to refer all our acts to God. We have to make this affirmation very clear in our mind and do everything to make that ideal a reality. We have to be most careful in handling our intentions. They play a strategic role in our life, for how and where we direct them would determine whether we want to be with God and simply with our own selves. Our intentions express who and where in the end we want to be. Do we choose God, or do we simply choose ourselves, or the world in general? It’s actually a choice between good and evil. Even if we are not aware, or refuse to be aware, of this choice, which is usually the case, the choice between God and us, between good and evil is always made with every human act we do. For us to have purity of intention, we should be humble enough to ask for it from God first. We should not dare to think that we can have purity of intention by simply relying on our own efforts. We need God’s grace first of all. Our usual problem is that we think we can have purity of intention by our own efforts alone. (FRC)

If you have received an invitation to get into a particular area of expertise, you should leap at the opportunity—no matter how small. BASILAN – Police continue to hunt down two motorcycle gunmen who shot and wounded a woman and her one-year old daughter in Lamitan City in the restive Muslim province of Basilan in southern Philippines. Both victims were wounded in the August 22 shooting which occurred in the village of Parangbasak and had to be rushed to hospital.Police identified the 25-year old mother as Sara Bonifacio and daughter Fajila. The woman and her child were seated outside a convenience store with husband Hamud when the drive-by shooting occurred. The assailants escaped after the attack. Cebu Pacific plans to mount more flights to Seoul CEBU - Cebu Pacific (CEB) said it plans to mount daily flights between Cebu and Seoul in South Korea beginning September 9 from the current twice weekly. The low-cost carrier said the move aims to ramp up direct flights via Incheon for passengers coming from the Visayas and Mindanao following the reopening of the Cebu-Incheon route last July with flights every Thursday and Sunday. “This ramp-up just two months after the route (resumption) is a testament to our commitment to every Juan and reflects the travel demand amongst Filipinos and foreigners,” said CEB spokesperson CarminaSheRomero.said the goal is to mount daily flights, but this will depend on the health situations due to the Covid-19 pandemic in the two countries. “If the plan pushes through, CEB’s daily flights will leave the Mactan Cebu International Airport at 12:25 p.m., arriving Incheon at 6:10 p.m. (South Korea local time). Flights from Incheon International Airport will leave at 6:55 p.m., arriving Cebu at 10:50 p.m. (local time),” Romero said. “Fully vaccinated individuals heading to South Korea need a negative coronavirus disease 2019 test result taken within 48 hours before flight; a valid vaccination certificate, and a filled-out foreigner registration card,” she added.
