WHO WE ARE

Addiction Solutions of Nantucket has been serving patients since 2005 through the private practice of Dr. Timothy Lepore. We became a 501c3 non-profit in February 2018.

This year has marked a turning point for our nonprofit with the support of our Board of Directors and professionals who have generously donated their time and expertise to reach our 2023 goals.

As we approach the end of the year, the holiday season is a time for giving and spreading joy, but we must not forget about those who are battling addiction. Support and understanding can be the greatest gift we can give to those struggling with substance abuse disorders during this time. By highlighting the importance of support and bringing attention to organizations like Addiction Solutions of Nantucket, we can make a positive impact and help create a supportive community for those in need. So let’s remember to offer our support, spread awareness, and make a difference this holiday season.

Addiction doesn’t just hurt you long-term; it affects those you love as well: home, work, friends, and relationships. Addiction touches every aspect of your life and negatively influences your ability to grow on a personal level.

We have helped people from all walks of life to reclaim their i ndependence from opioids, alcohol, and other harmful substances. Together with our patients, we focus on the root causation of addiction and develop customized plans which include today’s most effective me dical regimens and treatments—right here on Nantucket.

We have increased the clinic hours from two to three times a week. Our clinic activity of phone calls, emails, and appointments have increased 35% in activity.

RACE FOR RECOVERY

The event garnered an impressive turnout, with a record-breaking 354 runners and walkers and $123,500 raised.

ADDICTION SOLUTIONS CLINIC

In our experience helping those suffering from addiction, we hav e witnessed true recovery. Dr.Timothy Lepore and our staff have seen men and women of all a ges come back from the brink and rejoin their friends and family as productive, clean, sober survivors.

Addiction Solutions is a Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program. ASN uses many medications to help individuals stop using illicit drugs or alcohol by substituting prescription medication in a controlled manner to prevent the discomfort of withdrawal, on-going urges to use drugs or drink, and for maintenance therapy. Some of the key medicines include:

SUBOXONE (Buprenorphine/Naloxone)

A medicine used to control opioid withdrawal, illicit opioid use, and maintenance therapy. Suboxone blocks the effects of getting high, and pain control.

SUBUTEX (Buprenorphine)

A medicine that is a different formulation, because the Naloxone is not included. Subutex is used for individuals who may be facing surgical procedures or who may be pregnant. Subutex can be used with other medication for pain control.

NALTREXONE

A medication used to treat both opioid or alcohol use disorders by helping to block the effects alcohol or opioids, helping control the urge to use, as well as preventing intoxication.

VIVITROL (Naltrexone)

This is an injectable form of Naltrexone that is given in a shot every twenty-eight days. Vivitrol works to control the urge to drink or use opioid drugs, blocks effects of alcohol or opioids, and helps to prevent intoxication.

ANTABUSE (Disulfiram)

This medicine is effective in controlling the urge to drink by blocking an enzyme involved in breaking down alcohol. Antabuse produces very unpleasant side effects when it is combined with alcohol.

CAMPRAL (Acamprosate)

This medicine is effective in controlling the urge to drink Alcohol by stabilizing certain brain chemicals.

RACE FOR RECOVERY

Addiction Solutions of Nantucket held its annual Race for Recovery on September 24, 2023, despite the chilly temperatures and overcast skies created by Hurricane Lee. The event garnered an impressive turnout, with a record-breaking 354 runners and walkers and $12 3,500 raised. Also contributing to the event’s success was the number of sponsors, donors, and vol unteers, which also increased from the previous year. These figures mark a significant increase from last year regarding the number of participants and the funds raised. The proceeds from this year’ s event will contribute towards adding a third shift in the weekly clinic that is already available, inc reasing the number of patients served by the ASN clinic.

The race featured a traditional 5K run and a two-mile walk, wit h Jim Congdon, David Desnoyers, and Zach Tracy securing the top three spots among men. Among women, Lisa Wisentaner, Molly O’Mara, and Jinx Howe emerged as the leading three participants.

A Note from 1st Place

The Race for Recovery is such a valuable event for Nantucket. Living in a small community where it seems like everyone knows your business can make it difficult to say out loud, “I’m struggling and I need help”. At the Race for Recovery event, you can turn in any direction and see someone that is proud to say “I was struggling, I asked for help and I’m so happy that I did”. Someone that will say “life is so much better on the other side of addiction”. The funds that are raised from this event [and ongoing donations] are so valuable to addiction services on the island, and what is of even more value, is to create a shame free event around a topic that can carry so much shame for so many.

EDUCATION & OUTREACH

The following films, Public Service Announcements (PSAs) and res ources are made available from Addiction Solutions of Nantucket. The films and website were designed to 1 ) serve discussion groups led by teachers, mental health councilors, and anyone willing to facilitate a di scussion about this topic, and 2) appeal to anyone struggling with addiction letting them know we are here to help them.

As Dr. Timothy Lepore, President of ASN, states, “Awareness and taking action to seek help are the first importan t steps to battling Substance Use Disorders (SUD). The Boy Next D oor film and the Q&A session after the film are intended to raise understanding of addiction as an illness rather than a weakness. In addition, it should enlighten viewers that addiction does not discriminate. With 1 in 14 Americans touched by addiction, we cannot look the other way.”

The Boy Next Door

Nothing impacts us more than when tragic events happen in our c ommunity. This powerful and poignant 13-minute film takes the heartbreaking story of addiction and it s impact and turns it to hope that breaking the negative stigma surrounding addiction can bring. The Q&A fi lm is informative and sheds a light on the challenges that the Nantucket Community faces. Click on the images above to watch the films.
