GENERAL CARE INSTRUCTIONS These garments are made out of recycled and repurposed materials, but they were also made to last. Taking good care of your garment will maximize the lifespan of it, and allow it to age gracefully. Wash less! Machine wash only when your garment has stains and/or it is thoroughly covered in dirt, dust, etc. If the garment is musty but does not have stains or dirt, do not wash it in machine, but give it either a light hand wash, or take it to the bathroom (on a hanger) when you take a shower. Steam and moisture cleans, refreshes, and smoothes wrinkles out of the garment. When you machine wash, always turn your garment inside out, follow the instructions on washing temperature and sling. Avoid tumble dry! Prefer air dry (hang or flat) and drying rooms. Never iron directly on the prints! Always turn your garment inside out and iron from the backside on a low temperature. Repair! If it gets broken, contact @trashing_it to check if it can be repaired. It will be done for you, as long as repairing is still possible, without a cost: Every garment has a life-long repairing guarantee. Recycle! If, for some reason, you no longer need or want the garment, give it out into circulation. Find a new owner for it or give it to charity. Repurpose! Or alternatively, take out the best parts of your garment and turn in into something else! You can contact @trashing_it for inspo and tips.

psssst... *A note on prints, a.k.a. how to make yours last longer: There is no such thing as an absolutely permanent print. They will all fade and crackle in time, how fast and how much is depending on which kind of method and color was used. We, in the @trashing_it + merch team, have put special effort into making our prints as lasting as we can. That means being super meticulous in all the phases of the print-making, knowing your paints, fabrics and equipment. But our meticulous manufacturing is only half of the story . . . If you follow these instructions and care for your garment you will expand the lifespan of your print to the maximum <3

CHEAT SHEET: PRINT CARE - Wash less, wash cold, LOW TUMBLE

- Turn inside out for wash and iron - Avoid ironing the print, but if you do, never iron directly on the print and _only_ iron with the lowest heat setting. - Avoid tumble drying, but if you choose to do so, always dry on the lowest heat setting. - Air dry — it takes time today, but it gives years for your print in the future. - Storing: Try to fold your garment in a way that no folds go directly across any prints (especially with the machine printed patches), or alternatively, store your garment in a hanger. - FOR THE MACHINE PRINTED PATCHES: The print on the patches has been coated with a protecting layer. This layer may turn a bit softer and get a ’’milky’’ appearance after wash. This is normal and the patch will get back to normal after the garment dries. As you take your garment off the washing machine, handle with care until it has completely dried.

TIPS

buy less - care more

Esimerkiksi narulla kuivattaminen on ilmakuivaamista. - Säilytys: Yritä viikata vaatteesi niin, etteivät taitokset mene suoraan printin päältä (erityisesti jos kyse on konepainetuista kangasmerkeistä). Vaihtoehtoisesti anna vaatteesi liehua vapaasti ja onnellisesti henkarista. - KONEPAINETUILLE KANGASMERKEILLE: Merkeissä oleva printti on päällystetty suojaavalla ”pinnoitteella”.

The price of the products is based on the material costs and on the amount of time and effort that has been invested into acquiring the materials, designing, and making the garment. okay, but...

WHY THE HELL?

Why would we go through such an effort just to be able to provide these products? Well, because we can, and because we want. The problems inherent in the fashion industry are enormous, and concern every single stage of production. Materials: Often obtained from sources where serious human right issues are detected. Materials are also often produced in a way that is not environmentally sustainable, but instead is polluting the nature, over using the natural resources, and destroying the local ecosystems. Manufacturing: Often happens in conditions that seriously conflicts the basic human rights of the workers; factory owners not paying even a living wage for the workers, forcing them to work in inhumane conditions and in unacceptably long shifts, thus causing serious health issues and even premature deaths. Factories are destroying the local environment and ecosystems, and on the global scale the

just have to ask

the manifesto the manifesto the ma

environment and ecosystems, and on the global scale the emissions of the factories are speeding up the climate change. Transportation: Since many companies do not produce their garments locally, the goods must be transported thousands of miles to reach their destination. Whether by ships on sea or by planes on air, this only adds to the amount of pollution and harm caused for ecosystems and nature by fashion industry. Consumerism: Fashion industry has distorted our consuming habits by getting us accustomed to buy more than we need. By deliberately using low quality materials and poor execution they assure that people must keep buying stuff because the garments won’t last, even when they don’t feel the need for constant consuming. Waste: The amount of fabric waste that goes into landfills—where fabric waste does not belong—in a year is shocking. There are multiple reasons for this, one being the fact that people buy more than they need and they throw away anything they no longer want. Also the

has not yet come up with sufficiently efficient ways to reuse the fabric waste they have produced, for much of the fabrics include micro plastics (synthetic fibers), and these are extremely hard to separate from other fibers. In other words, we do not have sufficiently efficient technology to deal with fabric waste, so it ends up filling the land fills. Third, fashion industry also contributes to the amount of waste fabric by not putting their dead stocks into use, and this concerns the manufacturers as well as shops that sell clothes. Some change can be seen on this issue, since some brands are trying to find ways to use the dead stock garments instead of simply sending them to landfills. But this resource could, and indeed should, be utilized still in a much more broader scale. Conclusion: Simply put, not supporting fast fashion is a human rights question. It is an environmental question. Making our own merch garments is also a philosophers for sustainability question. Doing this on our own is direct counter acting, action against the crimes on humanity and nature made by the fashion industry. *For a translation in FIN/SWE: Contact us and we'll send it to you :3

But above all, this is about raising awareness of the undeniably unethical and unsustainable foundations of the fashion industry, which affects every single one of us, whether one is interested in ’’fashion’’ or not—since we all have to wear clothes anyway.
