brief
The project brief was inspired by the film GHOST IN THE SHELL - to design a ‘pavilion’ for the movie premiere. The brief: To create/curate a multi-sensorial outdoor experience (20 sqm) for the public to faciliate the lineup of organised events and launch parties. The site is situated at the outdoor venue outside THE CATHAY. We were tasked to extract scene(s) from the movie to develop our design/spatial concepts. The images on the left are the scenes I had chosen, illustrating the doubt and uncertainty of HUMAN IDENTITY as MOTOKO is plagued by the question of her identity. Is she an autonomous individual or just an automated creation? Is she just another machine on a factory production line? Is her mind(ghost) separate from her body(shell) and is she the owner of her individuality and identity?

DAY CONFIGURATION: mirrors manipulating light rays like a periscope to conceal the space, creating an illusion
NIGHT CONFIGURATION: Space opens up to reveal the ‘hidden’ compartment
