Insurance is a relationship business, says Miranda Schuler, Farmers Insurance Agency owner. A strong relationship with clients and the Minot community led to the recognition of Schuler’s agency for a Minot Daily News’ Readers’ Choice Award. Schuler said a local agent, such as herself, provides personalized service based on each clients individual needs and budget. “They become kind of like extended family. We get to know them and their families,” she said. “When we write a policy, we sincerely hope you never need to use it, but sometimes unfortunate things happen and you do. In those instances, we are an important piece of the recovery process and we take it very seriously. “Our clients trust us to help them understand the coverages and advise them based on the conversations we have,” she said. “We provide a variety of services that are customized for each individual policyholder. My team and I focus on making sure our clients are educated and know what to expect should they find themselves using their policy due to a loss.” It’s a common misconception that personalized, local service is more expensive, Schuler said. “We are very competitive across all markets with a multitude of discounts

available. Our office specializes in offering insurance for auto, life, home, flood and commercial,” she said. Schuler was looking for a flexible, interesting career when she became employed in the insurance industry in 2007 at a local State Farm office. In 2012, she began working with James Bierschbach at Farmers Insurance with a plan to purchase the agency upon his retirement. That day came on Jan. 1, 2017. Assisting at the Schuler agency are Candice Picard, agency producer; Sue Nilson, customer service manager; and Diane Slickers, customer service representative. Schuler and her team are active in their communities, supporting local businesses and events. The agency mission revolves around giving back locally, including honoring teachers and remembering emergency responders. Schuler is a former Minot City Council member and a current Minot Public School Board member. Insurance is a complex industry but it is one she loves, Schuler said. “We work hard and are honored to receive this recognition,” she said. “We are extraordinarily grateful for all of our clients and look forward to continuing to grow in the years to come.”

Customers can clearly see that Choice Auto Glass excels at what they do. What they do primarily is windshields and, for the sixth time in seven years, have been voted the No. 1 choice in Minot for windshield work by readers of the Minot Daily News. “We want to thank our clients for their business,” said Jeff Hooker, owner. “Without them we wouldn’t be in our situation.” Fair enough. But customer’s won’t give glowing reviews to a business unless they receive excellent service and are pleased with the result. Obviously, Choice Auto Glass places a very high priority on the quality of their work. It shows and customers agree, rating the business tops in their category once again. When a customer brings their vehicle to Choice Auto Glass they can expect satisfaction. Employees will vacuum the front of customers’ cars and do other necessary fixes on items such as window regulators. Hooker says Choice Auto Glass also does glass replacement and chip repair on semi-trailer trucks and heavy equipment. They work with all insurance companies and give rides to customers who have to leave their vehicle at the shop. “We want to give people service like they’d get in a small town,” said Hooker. “We want to be simple, easy, nice and approachable. We

don’t cut any corners when replacing windows.” The Choice Auto Glass approach to doing business is a main reason why customers rate them No. 1. It comes as no surprise to a company whose corporate office is located in Minot and that buying local is a testament to their success. “We take that a step further,” said Hooker. “ We reward customers with small town service.” Hooker started Choice Auto Glass in 2011. It was a big jump from working for someone else and not without risk. However, says Hooker, he’s grateful for the encouragement and support offered by Randy Conway at United Community Bank. “They took a chance on a fellow in 2011 and made all this possible,” said Hooker. Hooker felt there was a need for the business and service he could provide. In a short period of time he was proven to be correct, but he’s never forgotten the principle that has led to public acceptance of his business – offering the best possible product at a reasonable price. Judging by fact that customers consistently rate Choice Auto Glass No. 1 in the city, there’s no arguing they take care of business in the most professional and courteous manner possible. Choice Auto Glass is located at 800 5th Avenue Southwest, just off Burdick Expressway. They can be reached at 838-0735.

LEADING THE WAY

Murphy Motors and Jason Soine have been friendly fixtures in Minot since 2003. Soine worked for the former owners of next-to-new car business until acquiring the dealership last year. “I have been here for 15 years. Last March my father-inlaw, Wade Bjorden, and I purchased Murphy Motors,” said Soine. “We continue to provide the great service you all know and love.” Customers agree. They have voted Murphy Motors number one in their business category. The reasons why are many, one of which is personal service and attention to detail. “We’ve always had that small town feeling in a big town dealership,” said Soine. Soine grew up in Ray, a small town in the northwestern part of the state, so it is not surprising that he has brought that “small town feeling” with him to Murphy Motors. It’s the kind of sincere approach that nextto-new car buyers greatly appreciate. Today’s car buyers, says Soine, expect nothing less than great service and Murphy Motors does not disappoint. They have a man Soine calls “the best detail guy in the state,” Ruben Werre. Werre meticulously prepares each vehicle that arrives onto the lot, making certain it is as clean as possible and in excellent working order. Sharp, top running vehicles are a must at Murphy Motors. One of the important things for Murphy Motors is to have vehicles for sale that have minimal mileage on them and are in great condition. If a vehicle doesn’t meet those standards you won’t find them on the Murphy Mo-

tors lot. Customer satisfaction comes first. “We’ve got a pretty good reputation here for taking care of our customers and that’s not going to stop,” pledged Soine. Taking good care of customers has long been a priority for Tami Holte too. Holte manages the business office at Murphy Motors, much to the benefit of customers. She utilizes several different lending institutions to secure financing for vehicle purchases and handles the necessary paperwork to insure an effortless buying experience. While Murphy Motors welcomes customers to see their next-to-new vehicles on their lot at 1738 South Broadway, many car shoppers today choose to shop vehicles on-line where Murphy Motors has what Soine calls a “huge” presence. Often that results in customers arriving at the dealership knowing exactly what vehicle or vehicles they would like to see. “They’ve got their car picked out before they come here,” said Soine. “A lot of times they know more about it than we do. They’ve researched it. There’s not a whole lot of kicking tires anymore.” All the more reason, says Soine, to make certain all Murphy Motors vehicles are first-rate rides and road ready. “We’d like you to be able to drive one of our cars to Texas tomorrow and not worry about it,” explained Soine. “Neither I nor the customer have to worry about our cars after we check them over.” With that kind of commitment, there’s no question that Murphy Motors is the right choice, the Reader’s Choice, when shopping for a next-to-new vehicle.

We are pleased to accept this award for the

Dakota Kids Dentistry has been in Minot for 17 years. In that time, doctors and staff have worked to create a space that is friendly, fun and welcoming to children of all ages. They strive to help patients form a life-long love of the dentist and oral health care. Starting off a child’s dental experience on the right foot will create a life of good oral health. “We offer comprehensive and specialized dental treatment for children and people with special needs,” says Dr. Taylor Zmoos, one of the pediatric dentists at Dakota Kids Dentistry. Dakota Kids Dentistry is the place to go when taking a child to the dentist. As pediatric dental specialists, Dr. Lance Behm and Zmoos spent two additional years in residency learning about and practicing issues unique to children. These areas include growth and development in children, orthodontics, advanced behavior management, special health care needs and cavity prevention in children. In addition, they have a variety of pediatric specific “tools” at their disposal which allow them to treat your child’s specific needs. The American Dental Association and The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommend parents take their child to the dentist for the first time no later than one year old.

Zmoos explains, “The one year old appointment really focuses on the parents’ education. We want to encourage and empower parents to establish good habits at home and help them anticipate future needs, concerns and developmental issues their child may face. In addition, we address oral habits, dental trauma, fluoride use, diet and nutrition, dental hygiene, orthodontic and soft tissue needs, and identify early signs of trouble or promptly treat any concerns we do have.” Dakota Kids Dentistry has a strong focus on both prevention and education. They offer a wide range of advice and knowledge to help overcome cavities and other oral issues children face. Zmoos says, “I love being a pediatric dentist. At Dakota Kids Dentistry we are all very fun, energetic and empathetic people. We love children and strive to make this a positive environment for them and somewhere they enjoy being.” Dakota Kids Dentistry is open Monday through Friday and its hours vary day to day. “We’re always accepting new patients. You can call and make an appointment or look at our website,” Zmoos said. To find out hours, make an appointment or for more information, call the office at 839-4440 or visit their website at dakotakidsdentistry.com.

Voted Best Credit Union!

The team at Town & Country Credit Union is on a mission larger than finances. They’re on a mission to Positively Impact the members, employees and communities they serve. Town & Country Credit Union has leaned in to simplification, providing meaningful value and giving back this past year more than ever before. By cutting more than 22 fees, simplifying their product offerings, bringing more applications for products online and empowering staff to surprise and delight their members, they’re changing what it looks like to be a credit union member and improving the experience for everyone. This is illustrated clearly by their status as the fastest organically growing credit union by membership in North Dakota*, hitting 20,000 total members this year. “We’re proud that the residents of the Minot area continue to recognize the value Town & Country provides to our members, said Jeremiah Kossen, President/CEO. “We’re looking forward to continuing to improve and give back in the years to come. One way they’re giving back is through their new Nonprofit Account offerings. Area nonprofits can now access special benefits through their credit union membership, like an exclusive money market account, electronic signatures, volunteer time and meeting space. Membership in the credit union is open to any organization or person living within 75 miles of Minot. “We hope to create sustainable change for local organizations. By offering these benefits to nonprofits, they’re able to simplify their finances, saving them time and earning them more money, which allows them to reinvest more into their own important mission-driven work, said Kossen. Couple these new accounts with their investment of over $100,000 in sponsorships and donations, as well as over 5,000 hours of community involvement in the last year, and you can see Town & Country’s mission in action already. For more information on all Town & Country Credit Union has to offer, visit townandcountry.org or call 701-852-2018. *Year over year growth, according to National Credit Union Administration call report data as of Sept. 30, 2018.

Swenson RV & Marine is the Readers’ Choice award winner for best RV dealership and runner-up for best boat dealership. The business is located at 1945 20th Avenue SE in Minot. Swenson RV & Marine, owned by Darold Swenson and his sons, Nathan Swenson and Matthew Swenson, has been in operation in Minot since 1992 and has been selling recreational vehicles since 1998 and boats since 2012. The business sells new and used travel trailers, fifth wheels, toy haulers and motor homes. Available fifth wheel, travel trailer and toy hauler lines include Zinger, Columbus, Keystone Fuzion, Impact, Premier and Bullet. Some of the available motorhomes for sale are Sunseeker and Four Winds. They have a huge selection of new and used inventory with over 200 RVs in stock. Swenson RV & Marine took on the Bass Pro Tracker marine line in 2012. The line is the largest manufacturer of boats and pontoons in the world. Swenson RV & Marine also has a large inventory of boats and pontoons to choose from, with about 250 boats and pontoons currently on hand. The line up of boats features top selling Nitro fiberglass boats with up to 350 horse power motors. Also available are aluminum fishing boats to meet everyone’s budget. For several years, Swenson RV & Marine has been a top 10 Tracker boat dealer worldwide. The Swensons recently acquired property in Bismarck to better serve their customers. The new store will open there later this spring at 1700 Revere Drive on the Bismarck Expressway. Josh Proulx will serve as manager at the new Bismarck store. The Swensons also own and operate a RV campground with 188 available camping sites that adjoins the dealership property. The campground, which has been in operation since 2004, was converted to a KOA campground in the summer of 2018. At the same time it changed over to KOA, the business also made improvements to the campground, including the addition of a dog park, a playground, a nature trail, newly remodeled bathrooms and renovated convenience store. The Swensons are grateful to their customers of many years and proud to be the recipients of the Readers’ Choice award. Harry’s Tire Service A WINNER Harry’s Tire Service has been a staple in Minot for 75 years and was recently voted Readers’ Choice Winner 2018 for Auto Repair/Mechanic. It was started in 1943 by Harry Omman when he and his wife, Dorothy, took their last six dollars — grocery money — and used it as a down payment on their new tire business. In 1943, with war clouds encircling the globe, that $6 deposit was a pledge of their unshakable faith in the United States. In 1946 Harry landed a contract to act as Minot area distributor for The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company — a contract that is still in effect to this day. Through the years Harry’s added several tire makes to their lineup along with the addition of aftermarket wheels, lift kits and pickup bed covers as well as a wide variety of automotive products. When Harry retired he sold the business to his son Jim who ran it for several years. In 1997 they added the commercial line of Goodyear Farm Tires and became an International Truck Associate Dealer for parts, truck

sales and service with the advent of Dakota Truck and Farm. With six truck and trailer bays and three service trucks they offer complete service and maintenance on trucks, trailers, buses and RV’s and 24/7 on-site truck tire and mechanical repair. With their state of the art Bee Line Alignment rack they can complete alignments on trucks and trailers without uncoupling them. Mike Hemphill worked for Jim Omman for several years, quickly learning the value of providing quality tires and service at a fair price in a family oriented environment. After many years

of working with his mentor, Jim handed over the reins to Mike who ran the business for several years. Sadly Mike Hemphill passed away unexpectedly in October 2017, but not before passing along his knowledge and love of the business to his son-inlaw Clinton Burgardt, who bought the business from Mike in 2016. Clint added trailer sales to their lineup with high quality trailers at reasonable prices from Jet, Big Tex and US Cargo in a limitless array of sizes and configurations based on the customer’s needs. Dakota Truck and Farm recently expanded by opening another location in New

Town to meet the needs of the trucking community in that area. Back in the day, along with tires, Harry’s Tire Service offered auto repairs and maintenance, which is still offered today. With oil changes starting at just $34.95 they include top of the line Kendall synthetic blend oil along with a full 32 point inspection to ensure vehicles are ready to meet the demands of our northland weather extremes. Harry’s Tire Service also expanded over the years to include three state of the art Hunter Alignment bays. With a quick check for only $19.95 and alignments starting at $79.95 it allows

customers to protect the investment they make in their tires by ensuring even tread wear. Harry’s Tire Service’s general manager Kelly Burgardt continues the tradition of providing great customer service. Harry’s offers a free shuttle and they have Kid Zone — a special play area for the kids. Free coffee and popcorn made fresh throughout the day reinforces the family friendly atmosphere. With over 60 employees and many of them being veterans,

Harry’s Tire Service is a vital part of the Minot community. An old clipping from the Minot Daily News had praised Harry’s customer service as one of the most important factors in the company’s success. In that respect things haven’t changed. Service is still spelled with capital letters at Harry’s Tire Service. It’s a way of life for the company personnel and is apparent in the selection of Harry’s Tire Service as the 2018 Readers’ Choice for Auto Repair/Mechanic.

Boppre Law Firm

READERS’ CHOICE FOR BEST LAW FIRM

The Boppre Law Firm LLC, which is the choice of Minot Daily News readers for the area’s best law firm, is committed to excellence, said Brian Boppre. Boppre provides the best possible service for his clients, and also wants them to experience a warm, friendly, and inviting atmosphere from the moment they walk in the door. To aid in that, the firm has also recently added an office dog, a black Lab called Cooper. Cooper greets everyone who walks in and helps make them feel comfortable, said Boppre. The firm also has two paralegals, Kelli Stone and Aimee Williamson; one legal administrative assistant/ office manager, Brayda Weber and one newly hired billing and accounting manager, Darla Iverson. In addition, the firm also has one law clerk, Anthony Cooper, who is currently studying for the bar exam. The firm provides efficient assistance and results-driven representation, said Boppre. Boppre, a U.S. Navy veteran, grew up in Minot and had many ties to the area before he became a lawyer. Boppre spent 16 years in the financial services sector, first as an investment advisor and then as president of a Broker Dealer. He has more than 30 years of experience in the nuclear power field and, through the years, has started and owned several businesses. He was launched on a new career path when he attended the University of North Dakota Law School and became a lawyer four years ago. Boppre concentrates his practice in the areas of business and estate planning. He represents clients in the area of business law, which encompasses starting a business, planning succession, drafting, contracts, reviewing contracts, business mergers

and acquisitions, business mergers and disputes. The firm also handles estate planning, which involves helping clients plan wills, trusts, healthcare directives, and probate planning. The Boppre Law Firm also provides skilled legal assistance regarding real estate and property law. Cases might include landlord and tenant disputes, claims on Indian reservation land, purchases and sales, title opinions and sales. The Boppre law firm also handles research into the ownership and conveyance of mineral rights. Boppre also serves as the city attorney for the city of Burlington and as the special prosecutor for the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa. He also holds an Indian Law Certificate and holds a license to practices law in the Tribal Courts at the Three Affiliated Tribes at Fort Berthold and for the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa. Boppre said it is also important for the firm to be involved in the community and to give back. The firm is active in the Minot Area Chamber of Commerce and Boppre serves as an honorary commander for the Minot Air Force Base 5th Maintenance Squadron ‘s Military Affairs Committee through the Chamber. The firm also tries to give back through its volunteer efforts. For instance, firm employees recently helped paint the sheep barn at the Roosevelt Park Zoo. Boppre also hopes to expand in the future and to add additional lawyers to the firm. This would enable the firm to branch out to other areas of the law. Boppre said he is proud to receive the Readers Choice Award for the second time.

Jerome’s voted

BEST COLLISION CENTER for 10th year Oh my! The excellence continues. Jerome’s Collision Center has once again been voted the No. 1 collision center in Minot. That’s 10 consecutive years! A big reason why, says owner Jay Lundeen, is that Jerome’s has been able to maintain a consistent level of commitment to being a premier collision repair shop. The repair process and techniques have definitely evolved over the years. All of our technicians take continuing education classes and are certified. We are an I-Car Gold Certified Shop which meets the highest standards in our industry. Our office staff is highly professional, good listeners and always have the customer’s best interests in mind. Everyone at Jerome’s strives to win in both their personal and professional lives and I am proud of all of them. That attitude shows in our customer service as well. Our repeat business is awesome and we are always cognizant of every customer’s needs and expectations. Our goal is to go above and beyond! We are not perfect but one thing we will always do is take care of what we have to take care of. There is not much that comes in here that we can’t do. That is something I am very proud of! There isn’t a place like ours in the Midwest. We’ve had folks come in from other places and they can’t believe there’s a shop like this in North Dakota. It is unique not only for our community, but unique for our whole state. It’s because of the diversity of what we can do. Customers have come to trust Jerome’s for

doing excellent repair work in a timely manner. With all the variables present in automotive repair, the answer not always an easy one. However, Jerome’s staff works to insure complete repairs in as timely a manner as possible. “In this world we live in where everybody is working and doing their thing, it’s very important that you are accurate when you say something is going to be done,” said Lundeen. “We’re not perfect, but we work on it and strive for it and conscious of it every day.” They provide a high level of service that is expected by customers trusting a prized pos-

Drivers and passengers can be adversely effected beyond concerns about a damaged ride and getting it repaired. “They can be a little shook up, such as getting a fender bender while taking the kids to school,” said Lundeen. “The stress response to that is still there a couple of hours later. How you treat that person is a big deal.” Customers are treated right at Jerome’s. Their staff of understanding professionals works closely with all customers, consistently earning the trust of those who place the care of their vehicle to a collision center. At Jerome’s the trust is earned every day. “We pay attention. It’s not just customer service. That’s a cliche, but really connecting with our customer on a personal level and understanding what they are going through.
