KYLE BRATSET RHP, 6’1” 215 lbs

Bratset, a native of Fremont, California, wrapped up his freshman year at San Jose State University this spring. The right-hander appeared in just two games entering the Spartans’ May 14 game and pitched no more than 2.2 innings in either contest. Bratset combined to allow eight total runs, seven of which were earned, in 4.2 total innings of work, though seven of the eight markers came across in his latest game May 4. He struck out one hitter and issued three free passes between his two relief appearances against the Oregon Ducks and California Golden Bears.

BRADEN CORLEY LHP, 5’8” 185 lbs

Corley has been a mainstay in the Murray State College rotation, as all but one of his 13 appearances on the hill have been as a starter. He began his season on a positive note with four spotless frames to lead the Aggies to a 15-0 rout of North Central Missouri Feb. 22. The southpaw allowed just three knocks in his first start of the campaign and fanned four against just one walk. Overall, Corley had allowed four or fewer runs in eight of his 13 appearances, highlighted by his April 3 start when he spun seven scoreless innings in a 4-0 victory over National Park College. He sported a 5.19 ERA in 67.2 innings of work entering the Region II Tournament, racking up 52 punchouts against just 16 walks.

WILL CASEL

MAY 2021

LHP, 6’ 185 lbs

Casel completed his second season as a member of the Des Moines Area Community College Bears’ bullpen with nine appearances out of the bullpen. After getting into one game his freshman year before the COVID-19 pandemic struck, the sophomore southpaw struck out 12 hitters in 11 innings pitched entering the team’s May 14 Region XI Tournament game, while allowing 10 runs, six of them earned, on eight hits and nine walks. His strikeout totals put him on a pace for just under 10 per nine innings.

AUSTIN HAMMERLE RHP, 5’10” 185 lbs

Hammerle finished his sophomore season on the pitching staff at the University of PittsburghJohnstown, increasing his workload from the 3.1 innings he threw in 2020 to 20.1 frames this season spanning 11 appearances. He worked exclusively in short bursts, as his longest outing of the season came in his final appearance when he worked four innings in a 4-3 defeat to Seton Hill. Hammerle had been quite reliable for the Mountain Cats, as only once had he allowed more than two runs in an outing. He finished his season with a glistening 2.66 ERA and a 22:13 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

LHP, 6’ 215 lbs

Ernt joins his San Jose State teammate Bratset on the Sabre Dogs roster, with the former bringing one more year of experience to the Magic City. Ernt, a sophomore left-hander with the Spartans, had made his way into six contests, contributing 21.2 innings entering his team’s May 14 game. His first appearance of the season was also his best, relieving starter Ben Polack and tossing six innings of one-run ball in an eventual 10-7 victory March 30. He struck out eight hitters without a walk and allowed just two hits in his dominant outing. Through his first six appearances on the Spartans’ mound, Ernt posted a 5.40 ERA with 21 punchouts against seven walks. His sixinning effort marked one of two outings that saw Ernt whiff eight hitters; the second came in a seven-inning outing April 23 when he allowed three runs, only one earned, on four hits and two walks.

DALTON LEBLANC LHP, 5’10” 180 lbs

LeBlanc shouldered a significant workload for Paris Junior College during the 2021 campaign. The DeQuincy, Louisiana native made 12 appearances on the mound for his squad and contributed 37.1 innings of work. He mostly worked through shorter appearances, but pitched four or more innings in four of his 12 games. The most effective outing of his campaign came February 5 against Carl Albert State College, when LeBlanc limited the Vikings to just one run on five hits over six innings. He punched out two hitters and issued two free passes to lead his squad to a 10-2 victory and a split of the doubleheader. Overall, the southpaw finished with a 4.10 ERA and 41 strikeouts against 26 walks.

JACKSON KIRKPATRICK RHP, 6’6” 215 lbs

TREVOR ERNT

PAGE 5

Kirkpatrick saw limited action in his first season with the University of Western Carolina, as he accrued just 5.2 total innings across seven appearances entering the Catamounts’ May 14 contest. The right-hander did work a full inning on five separate occasions and allowed only two runs in one of those five. Kirkpatrick succeeded at missing bats during his brief appearances. The Madison, North Carolina struck out five hitters through his first two innings of work, and fanned at least one in all but his latest appearance of the season.

TREVOR MEISNER RHP, 6’2” 185 lbs

Meisner is another member of a fairly young Sabre Dogs pitching staff, also coming off his freshman season at the University of San Francisco. Not unlike Hammerle, Meisner became accustomed to brief stints on the mound. He did not pitch more than 2.1 innings in any of his 10 appearances entering his squad’s May 14 contest, but remained effective in his role. He allowed multiple runs in an outing only once, and contributed a scoreless appearance in six of his 10 games. The Las Vegas native compiled 10.2 total innings during that span, allowing just five runs, three earned, on eight hits. He produced impressive results, but his command could stand to improve as he walked twice as many hitters as he struck out, finishing with an 8:16 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

KAININ MORROW RHP, 6’ 205 lbs

Morrow completes another set of college teammates on the Souris Valley pitching staff, as he played with LeBlanc at Paris Junior College. The latter saw more time on the mound, but Morrow still got his work in throughout the season, earning 16 appearances on the bump and pitching 16.2 total innings. He worked exclusively in relief, reaching three innings once and two innings twice in his 16 total games. He was often able to avoid the crooked number, save for his March 7 appearance against Tyler Junior College when he surrendered three runs on three walks without recording an out. He also has experience in highpressure situations, having locked down four saves, and possesses the stuff to match, boasting 24 punchouts in his limited action. Overall, Morrow finished with a 3.78 season ERA.

SHANE SINCLAIR RHP, 6’ 170 lbs

Sinclair joins the Sabre Dogs’ pitching staff after his freshman year at Spokane Falls Community College. No past statistics were available for the right-hander out of Glasgow, Montana.

DOMINICK PARKHURST

MAY 2021

RHP, 6’1” 225 lbs

The Sabre Dogs pitching staff will feature one familiar face to Minot baseball fans, as Beavers starter Dominick Parkhurst will remain in the Magic City throughout the summer on the Souris Valley roster. Parkhurst has been a steady presence in the Minot State rotation throughout the 2021 campaign, as the righthander has made seven of his eight total appearances entering the NSIC conference tournament as a starter. After a one-hit inning of relief in his season debut February 23, the Tucson, Arizona product did not allow more than three runs in five of his following seven starts. He produced a quality start by MLB standards in back-to-back outings April 17 and 24, tossing seven and six innings of three-run ball, respectively, marking his two best outings of the season. He has the stuff to miss bats as well, having struck out 39 opposing hitters while walking only 11 entering play May 13. Overall, he boasted a season ERA of 3.93 through his first 34.1 innings of the year and entered the conference tournament riding a solid four-inning start against Minnesota Crookston May 8 when he allowed a pair of runs on two hits with five strikeouts.

CULLEN HANNIGAN

ANDREW JURADO Bats/Throws: R/R, 5’10” 185 lbs

Bats/Throws: R/R, 5’8” 190 lbs

Jurado is the third and final member of the San Jose State Spartans to make their way up north, joining his college teamand battery-mates Ernt and Bratset. Jurado enters the 2021 summer season as the most experienced of the three catchers on Souris Valley’s roster, having recently completed his senior season with the Spartans. Through his first 20 games and 18 starts with San Jose State this season, the Orange, California native put together a .263 batting average with seven runs batted in. It should prove beneficial for the two Spartans hurlers to have a familiar face behind the plate as well, meaning Jurado will likely also bring a positive impact that cannot be directly measured.

Hannigan will join the Souris Valley roster after very limited time with the Rice University Owls. The catcher out of Houston, Texas had only eight collegiate at-bats in nine career games under his belt entering the Owls’ May 14 contest, two of which came this year. After going 0-for-1 March 17 against Texas State, he earned a hit in his second at-bat of the season exactly one month later.

LANCE MACDONALD Bats/Throws: S/R, 5’11” 195 lbs

MacDonald rounds out the Sabre Dogs’ catching corps for the 2021 campaign, as the sophomore from Mt. Pleasant, Michigan will join the lineup in the Magic City after an encouraging season with the Lake Michigan College Red Hawks. In his first 38 games this year, MacDonald produced a robust .369 batting average with six doubles, a pair of triples and two home runs. He also scored almost one run for each contest he played, crossing home plate 37 times for the Red Hawks in his 38 games. Defensively, of the 18 attempted base-stealers against him, he managed to throw out three, so the Sabre Dogs pitching staff will likely hope that mark improves somewhat as the season progresses to match his impressive offensive potential.
