02 LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE
LEBANON BERRY PARK I worked on this project at Meisner and Associates in early 2019. I helped work on a new landscape design plan for a park, in Lebanon, Ohio, in collaboration with Cincinnari design firm, MKSK. I used AutoCAD to create the site and then placed different symbols for a variety of planting options.

This is another project I worked on during my time at Meisner and Associates. The project looked at proposing a new parking lot for a private high school in Cincinnati. A safety issue arose when there weren’t enough parking stalls in the school’s lot, leading students who drove to school to park in an adjacent lot and crossing a high traffic street. This parking lot would feature landscaping, fencing, lighting, and more. I created the visual to the left in Sketchup. The graphics to the right were made in AutoCAD by me.

ARCO RENOVATION BOOKLET During my internship at Price Hill Will, the non-profit moved into a newly renovated, historical building which was named ARCO. The building now plays a major role in the community being a historical venue and gathering space. Located in the Price Hill neighborhood, it is available to be used for art and musical performances, weddings, or office and meeting space. PHW asked me to create a marketing booklet for ARCO so they could use it as a catalog for individuals who would be interested in utilizing the space. These are just a few snippets from the 22-page booklet I developed and designed.

04 CONNECTING TO OUR SENSES
VISUAL ESSAY: LET‘S COME TO OUR SENSES My Visual Essay from my first year in Urban Planning focused on the five senses and where they are primarily used around the University of Cininnati’s campus.
SEE
The one place students can truly absorb their surroundings would be Campus Green on the North East end of campus. This spot is covered in green grass, trees, and little places for visitors to sit and take in the view.
TOUCH
Out of the many practice fields on UC’s campus, Sheakley Field is one of the most popular. Students are constantly utilizing this space through every season. With our soccer stadium, tennis courts, and our renowned football field, Nippert Stadium just a few steps away, this is a highly active area for using our sense of touch.

LINCOLN HEIGHTS SITE MODEL
My second year studio in Urban Planning focused on Lincoln Heights, a historically Black neighborhood in Cincinnati. Myself and two other students constructed a 3D model of our selected site in Lincoln Heights.

06 AVIATION PLANNING
ENVIRONMENTAL ZONING / SOUND STUDY My internship at Landrum and Brown consisted of a variety of aviation planning work. For this project, I analyzed the area surrounding this airport which was undergoing potential zoning changes due to sound from it’s activity. L&BGeneralized was hired to develop sound studies and evaluate the zoning to see how it will effect local parcel cost and value. That’s when I organized this map in GIS.

07 REVITALIZATION + PRESERVATION My first studio class in Urban Planning at UC involved studying a given neighborhood in the Cincinnati region. I studied South Cumminsville with two other students making maps, graphics, revitalization plans, and even postcards. The neighborhood has a rich history, once being Cumminsville, until the construction of I-74 split the neighborhood in half. Northside is the northern portion of what used to be Cumminsville. Both neighborhoods are in very different economic and social standpoints today. To gain more connectivity and social activity, I came up with the idea to implement a bicycle and walking trail.

I have always wanted to make a name of myself since I was a child. More importantly, I have always wanted to change the world for the better. I can accomplish this dream by acquiring a degree at DAAP. Coming from a family that moved often and lived in multiple communities, I have observed several diverse environments. My past has made me into an altruistic person, which is why I have a deep interest in philanthropy. I believe I was put here to make the world around me a better place. Therefore, I feel Urban Planning suits me best because I am attentive, philanthropic, innovative and a good communicator. I am intrigued by Urban Planning because I find dissecting diverse areas, solving pressing problems, and constructing effective spaces essential. By building communities that enrich people’s lives, I can make my vision of the world become a reality. I have always been interested in how humans communicate and live. I wish to revitalize and improve the efficiency throughout cities, counties, and many other different areas. My fascination with anthropology, sustainability and communication proves that I am capable of creating successful communities and institutions. I dream of pursuing a career where I can build and plan diverse, stable communities. Through this program, I can strategically design places to improve people’s lives, something I believe to be extremely important. After diligent work at DAAP and working for different firms through several co-op opportunities I will earn my degree and use my education in the workforce to build and reform communities. I plan to collaborate with different planners and designers to build efficient communities throughout the country and potentially the world. My passion for philanthropy and design is evidence that I would make an ideal student at DAAP. I wish to be in this program because I am incredibly passionate about my work and capable of such intense workload. I am prepared to spend day and night in studios to attain success because I am immensely passionate and focused on the work that needs to be done in DAAP. I am ready to devote my time and my life to DAAP so I can begin this journey in helping others and the world.

When I came to Cincinnati in 2016, I was an Exploratory student at UC. My ultimate goal was to get into DAAP’s Urban Studies + Planning program the following fall. As part of the application process I needed to write a short essay stating why I belonged in the program. Desperate to achieve my goal, I poured my heart into the essay. This is the writing that got me into my dream school.
