The representation of female position in Disney Princesses.
Walt Disney Animations, and specifically Disney Princesses have become a cultural phenomenon since its beginning in 1937 . Combining a traditional female-centred aesthetic the movies appeal to a much broader audience than the one it was intended for. But do Disney Princesses challenge the “strictness” of gender roles? Nearly all Disney Princesses sampled for this paper, included content that represent challenges towards gender and race stereotypes, females positions and female characters regarding their designs and their interior and exterior space. The Princesses characters will be examined with a focus on their behaviour, voice, posture, and design. My initial question and hypothesis are “if Disney Princesses influence young girls on how they view themselves and the female position in sociaty”.
