April is the Month of the Military Child and I would like to take this opportunity to invite all the juniors interested in playing golf to come out to Gosser Golf Course and get involved in the Jr. Golf Program. We are committed to making the Misawa Jr. Golf Program one of the best programs in the Air Force. In 2018 a $20 annual Jr. Golf Membership and $1 daily fee was introduced as an incentive to join the fun. The 2020 Kids Drive Free Program will run Friday, May 1 through Monday, August 31. This program gives junior golfers the opportunity to use the Driving Range FREE for four months! Jr. Golf Camp will coincide with the annual school summer break and will offer instruction and playing opportunities for youth ages 7–17. I am looking forward to the 2020 Jr. Golf season! Please feel free to contact me at the Gosser Golf Course for additional information. Robert E. Jacobus General Manager, Gosser Golf Course

SWAP, STORE & BALANCE
This month we are featuring Mike Poole’s 1939 Ford V8 Tudor Sedan. This 81-year-old vehicle was purchased through social media in August 2019 from a seller in Dallas, Texas. Poole is not only the proud owner of this vehicle, but he's also an Automotive Service Advisor for the Auto Complex. Poole coordinated all the paperwork and shipping of the car to Japan. He also did all the necessary conversions on the car so that it could meet JCI inspection regulations. The sedan’s parts and body are 90% original and one of the coolest features of the car is the Ford flathead V8 engine that hides under the hood. The Ford flathead was produced from 1936–1954, and is extremely rare and hard to maintain. Poole uses many of the same techniques, tools and knowledge on his own classic vehicle that he provides to customers on a daily basis at the Auto Hobby Center. Need help working on, transporting or caring for your vehicle? Visit Mike Poole at the Auto Hobby Center and check out his beauty of a Ford if you get the chance. He’ll be showing it off at the 2020 Misawa International Motor Show this June. Stay tuned to https:/35fss.com/ for upcoming details!

Week 1 | Save Automatically Wednesday, April 1–Saturday, April 4 Hashtags of the Week #SaveAutomatically #MSM2020 Saving automatically is the easiest and most effective way to save. Whether saving for an emergency fund, education expenses, retirement, or all things in between, by making saving automatic through safe and appropriate banking products you are in the best possible position to reach any savings goal.
Week 2 | Save to Retire Monday, April 6–Saturday, April 11 Hashtags of the Week #Save4Retirement #MySSA #MSM2020 Preparing for retirement can easily be pushed into the “someday” category, as we focus on present needs and expenses. With the military community having access to the Thrift Savings Plan, along with the added benefit of contribution matching through the Blended Retirement System, we want to encourage you to save today for tomorrow, and discover just how much you need to save for your golden years.
Week 3 | Save for the Unexpected Monday, April 13–Saturday, April 18 Hashtags of the Week #Save4TheUnexpected #MSM2020 America is in a savings crisis, as forty percent of Americans don’t have access to $400 cash in case of an emergency. Additionally, the average debt in collections is just under $400, so it’s easy to imagine the impact of more Americans having an emergency fund. This week we will offer tips and solutions to #ThinkLikeASaver and encourage our community to save for the unexpected.
Week 4 | Save with a Plan Monday, April 20–Saturday, April 25 Hashtags of the Week #MySavingsPlan #SaveWithAPlan #MSM2020 It’s not enough to simply set a savings goal, you need a plan of action. Savers who have a plan are twice as likely to save successfully. This week, we encourage the military community to pause and make space for a financial health check-in, and take their savings goal one step further by developing an action plan.
Week 5 | Save by Paying Down Debt Monday, April 27–Thursday, April 30 Hashtags of the Week #ReduceDebt2Save #MSM2020 We talk about savings all the time, but here’s something that you don’t hear as often: paying down your debt is saving! When you actively reduce your debt you save on interest, eliminate late fees and maintain your credit score. This week, we’ll encourage our communities to acknowledge and celebrate reducing your debt as a form of saving and as a component of your financial plan. Leisure TIMES | 27

FSS Spotlight W hat is your favorite part about working at t he Misawa Inn?
Being a part of an outstanding, professional and dedicated team and working alongside our bilateral partners. We wouldn’t be able to function at 100% without the assistance of our Japanese Nationals and our NAF civilian employees. We also ensure that we take care of all those who PCS in and out of Misawa. This is one of the very ďŹ rst places accompanied and unaccompanied members will stay, getting that ďŹ rst impression of Misawa. It's also the last place they will stay before boarding the rotator to go to their next duty location. We also take care of DoDEA sports teams when there is a sports tournament at Edgren, members who come here on TDY and even families who just come to visit Misawa on leisure. Our team helps ensure the success of the Misawa mission and supports the U.S.-Japan alliance.
W hat do you wis h t he Misawa community knew about your programs?
Please understand that those who are PCS-ing out of Misawa, either military or civilian, are responsible for making their own lodging reservations, as the housing office does not do this for you, especially for those with pets. Please keep in mind that we are limited in the amount of pet-friendly units we have available. We are usually pretty full, especially during the summer months, as that is high PCS season. Travelers with pets will also not be given a statement of nonavailability if we have availability in a non-pet friendly unit. Therefore, please plan accordingly and make the necessary arrangements with either a friend or the Misawa Pet Kennel. If you are a sponsor of someone who is coming in, ensure that they are set up with reservations for the correct check-in dates. If there is a delay in their arrival date, please stop by the front desk so we can make the necessary adjustments. That way we will have a place for them to rest upon arrival and it's one less thing for them to worry about if there are no rooms at the Inn.
W hat is your best Misawa Inn memory?
Coming back to Misawa as a civilian after retirement and working with an awesome group. But mostly seeing the Misawa Inn team taking care of everyone. Seeing the smiles on the guest's faces when they are either checking in or checking out, or during their every interaction with the Misawa community.
Joji Johnson, Guest Services Manager, Misawa Inn Leisure TIMES | 29
