Lights – We check all the lights to make sure they are functioning properly and that none of the bulbs are out. Prices vary on the bulbs and may cost labor to fix. Belts – The belts are different in every car but all need to be replaced eventually. This check determines whether the belts are loose, worn down or cracked. If you notice any noise with the belts in your car, this check can look into the issue. Fluids – Maintaining all of the fluids in your vehicle is a “must-do” for increasing
the longevity of your car, on top of other things. Antifreeze or coolant, brake fluid, engine oil, transmission oil, power steering fluid and windshield washer fluid are checked. These are not oil changes or fluid flushes, the levels are checked and topped off, all for $6 regardless of how much fluid is used.
Tires – We check the tread and conditions to determine whether they need to be Mobile Equipment Servicer, Shogen Anastos Explains a Pit Stop Garage Five Point Check
replaced now or in the near future. The tires will be inspected for tire pressure, cracks in the tread or shoulder, and for uneven wear. Specialists will also make sure that the tires themselves aren’t showing signs of a bigger issue such as alignment, tire balance or need of rotation.
Hoses – The radiator has two hoses that connect to the top and bottom tanks. The upper hose is where the fluid comes from the engine and the bottom cycles the fluid back into the engine. Inspecting the quality of the hoses is important, because after time they wear down. If the hose is deformed or has a hole, then the hose needs to be replaced. 26 | February 2020
HRO & CPO Q&A What is Military Spouse Preference?
The spouse of an active duty member of any military branch, who relocates via a permanent change of station (PCS) move, as a sponsored dependent to the military sponsor’s new permanent duty station, is entitled to military spouse preference (MSP). MSP can be used for all positions in the commuting area of the new duty station being filled under competitive procedures.
How many times can you apply with the Military Spouse Preference?
You can apply with Military Spouse Preference as many times as you want. Military spouses will be referred using Military Spouse Preference until such time as they accept or decline a regular category position, fail to maintain eligibility, or are no longer interested in being referred.
Who qualifies for Family Member Preference?
Eligible family members include spouses, unmarried dependent children (including stepchildren, adopted children and foster children) not more than 23 years of age. These family members must reside with and be listed on the PCS orders of a member of the U.S. Armed Forces or a U.S. citizen civilian employee of a U.S. government agency (APF or AAFES employees).
When do you lose your Military Spouse Preference?
You lose MSP when you accept or decline a regular category position with NAF (non-appropriated funds), appropriated funds (GS positions), or AAFES (BX). You also lose your MSP if you decline an invitation to the interview for regular category positions. However, you do not lose Military Spouse Preference if you accept or decline FLEX positions.
Do I still have Military Spouse Preference if I got married after my spouse was already stationed in Misawa? No. To be entitled for Military Spouse Preference the spouse must: ° Have married the military sponsor prior to the date of the military sponsor’s original orders authorizing a permanent change of station. Even if you are later command sponsored, you will still not receive MSP. ° Submit a copy of the PCS order identifying a dependents-authorized move. If you have any questions please contact: °

What is your favorite part about working at DFAC?
SS FS tl po ig
What do you wish the Misawa community knew about your programs? Most of our customers are younger military members who reside in the dormitory or barracks (AF & USN). I wish our meal card members (along with the rest of Misawa community) had the understanding of how our DFAC normally operates and that we have a lot more to offer than just a DFAC sign in front of our building. A perfect example is our Go-4-Green (G4G) program. The purpose of G4G is to promote healthier food options and provide nutritional initiatives in our facilities. We are educating our customers to eat more “green” and by doing this we are promoting a healthier lifestyle. It is essential that every member is mission ready and are “Fit to Fight,” especially being in the military. Every day, we contribute to the fight by fulfilling one of the pillars in the Comprehensive Airmen Fitness (CAF) standards emphasized by CSAF and CMSAF. Another example is our partnership with DoDEA (with Robert D. Edgren High School), we facilitate and develop their students by providing mentorship and culinary skills to support their Career Practicum program. We create a positive and motivating experience for the students when learning about our craft, whether they will pursue culinary opportunities down the road. Lastly, we offer special meals throughout the year like birthday meals every quarter, specialty meals (on New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Air Force Birthday, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter…just to name a few), and extravagant holiday meals on Thanksgiving and Christmas. What is your best DFAC memory? My best memories are always seeing the smile on everyone’s faces after they’ve been served or fed (most evident during deployments). Knowing our customers are satisfied is a testament of our success as food service professionals.
ht
My favorite part in working at the DFAC is the team work, professionalism, and dedication that every member brings to ensure the success of our mission. Most importantly, we can’t function without the assistance of our bi-lateral partners. Our Japanese Nationals along with our military members constantly share their expertise and knowledge to our daily ops to support our base populace. Together, we continue to push the envelope to be the best food service, provide the best customer service, and have the endurance to be flexible for any changing needs of the unit/base. Lastly, I love working with our new tech school Airmen. My facility managers, shift leaders, and the rest of my NCOs work diligently to push the boundaries in taking care of our members. We’re the biggest advocate when it comes to equipping our Airmen with the best training and knowledge to be successful, whether for their personal success or exceeding their professional goals. We truly believe that our personnel are our best asset that determines whether we’re a success or a failure.
