STAY COOL FOR THE SUMMER
PIT STOP GARAGE AIR CONDITIONING SERVICES
STARTING AT $50 Air conditioning servicing consists of hooking your car up to a state-of-theart AC system machine to check the following:
1. RECEIVER-DRIER
The receiver is a metal container that serves as a storage receptacle for the refrigerant. It’s also referred to as a drier because it absorbs moisture from the refrigerant and lters out particles of debris and acids that would otherwise harm your AC system. Commonly located on the liquid line of the AC system, you should change your drier every three to four years to ensure quality ltration and prevent any damage caused by detrimental chemicals. Our machine vacuums and clears out any moisture in the system to ensure the receiver-drier is functioning properly.
10 | July 2019
2. COMPRESSOR
The compressor is a belt-driven device that derives its name from compressing refrigerant gas and transferring it into the condenser. While acting as a simple pump, the compressor is the core of your vehicle’s air conditioning system. Our machine checks the pressure output of the compressor to make sure it is operating properly.
3. CONDENSER
The condenser’s primary function is to cool the refrigerant. It is a heat dissipating apparatus that radiates heat released by compressed gasses and condenses them into high-pressure liquids. The location of your condenser depends on how new your car is, but it is typically found at the front of the vehicle, directly in front of the engine cooling radiator. We make sure your cooling fan is operating properly and that the vanes in the condenser are clean and free of debris.
4. EVAPORATOR
The evaporator is designed to remove heat from the inside of your vehicle. We check the blower motors lter/ cabin lter of your car to make sure it is working optimally. Lastly, lines and hoses are inspected by applying vacuums and dye to check for leaks.

Aomori Nebuta Matsuri
by Lydia Wagoner
Aomori Nebuta Matsuri is a unique, colorful festival celebrated in the northern prefecture of Aomori, from Aug. 2–7. This festival is a mustsee and roughly three million people visit the Aomori Nebuta Matsuri every year! This festival is held once a year and features breathtaking brightly lit, colorful oats resembling famous Japanese gures throughout time. The true origin of the Nebuta Masuri is still unknown, but it is rumored that the Nebuta oats were invented by General Sakanoue-no-Tamuramaro in the 880’s. His army created these large creatures from bamboo and cloth to scare away enemies. Throughout time, the shape, size and colors of these lanterns have evolved into the present day oats showcased in the Aomori Nebuta Matsuri. Today, the oats range from 15–30 feet tall and are made of washi paper, wire and bamboo framework. Hundreds of light bulbs are weaved throughout the oats illuminating the washi paper at night. The oats are typically modeled after Japanese gods, historical gures, kabuki actors and mythological beings. Attendees can also enjoy reworks before and on the last day of the Nebuta Matsuri. There are three types of oats including the Children’s Nebuta, Regional Nebuta and the Local Organizations’ Nebuta. The Children’s Nebuta oats are the largest of them all and require immense man power to move them due to their large size. The smaller oats are often pulled by children and are seen on the rst two days of the festival from Aug. 2 to Aug. 3. Each year, the best oats are recognized on the evening of the sixth day and honored by transporting them by ship in Aomori Harbor to cruise along the bay. One of the best parts of the festival is dancing next to your favorite oat wearing a traditional Haneto dancing costume. You can rent the dancing costumes for around ¥4,000 from various stores around Aomori City. Anyone can dance in the parade but you must be dressed in Haneto. You can participate even if you do not belong to an organization and there is no advance registration, just show up in costume and join the fun! Very few festivals in Japan allow audience participation as much as the Nebuta Matsuri. ITT will be taking multiple trips to the Aomori Nebuta Matsuri on Friday, Aug. 2; Saturday, Aug. 3; and Sunday, Aug. 4. As a tourist, enjoy the brightly lit oats, taiko drums, dancing and delicious festival food. Don’t miss this chance to attend the Aomori Nebuta Matsuri!
