Come along as the ODR Adventure Team explores Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido. We plan to visit Sapporo, the fifth largest city in Japan, and the epicenter of Hokkaido’s food culture. This trip isn’t all touring and eating though, we will also be leading a trek to the summit of Mt. Tarumae, a 3,000 foot tall active volcano. If that’s not enough to convince you, how about ocean kayaking along the Shakotan Peninsula, where the water is so vividly colored scientists had to give it its very own color distinction, “shakotan blue.”

Meet NAF HR Marchelle Johnson Bowie, Maryland Human Resources Assistant My hobbies include team sports, swimming, writing, singing, event planning, cooking, road trips, reading, learning new things and hanging out with loved ones. My favorite thing about working for NAF Human Resources is being there to give people confidence to apply for jobs and help them throughout the on-boarding process. I get so excited when new hires begin their first day of work. I know how difficult it can be to put yourself out there and apply for jobs. I am on your team and love doing anything I can to help people find a career they love! Not to mention, NAF Human Resources employees are some of the coolest people on Misawa Air Base.

CS season is a busy time for families. Become an Air Force Family Child Care Provider and help families with this transition by providing child care for their children. PCS care is part-time work and is a great way to earn extra income for your family. PCS care is offered to families who are PCS-ing to or from Misawa Air Base. Air Force Family Child Care Providers are professionals that receive FREE training and resources. The Family Child Care program maintains a resource library for providers to check out materials needed to get their business started. If you are interested in becoming an FCC Provider, please call the Community Child Care office at 226-2273 or attend the FCC Informational Meeting on Wednesday, July 8 from 6–7 p.m. at the Lunney Youth Center.
FCC It’s Ok to Be Neighborly!
At Child and Youth Programs, we provide safe child care for military families at the Child Development Center, School Age Care Program, and in Family Child Care settings where certified providers offer child care in their on-base homes. The Air Force has a responsibility to balance the ability of families to rely on one another to meet their short term child care needs with protecting the safety and well-being of children. It is not and never has been the intent of CYP to eliminate such “good neighbor” favors. There is a difference between caring for children a few hours a week and providing child care services on a regular basis.
Know the Rules A 10-hour child care limit has been established by the Department of the Air Force to protect children from being in unregulated child care settings on a regular basis. This means any family member living in government quarters providing child care for more than 10 child care hours per week on a regular basis must be certified as a Family Child Care Provider. 10 child care hours means one child for 10 hours per week in your on-base home, two children for five hours per week in your on-base home, etc. “Regular basis” means routinely, for an extended period of time.
Examples If you care for your neighbor’s child all day in your on-base home, five days per week for nine hours per day, that is a total of 45 child care hours. You must be a certified FCC Provider. If you care for six different children per day, five days per week, even if it’s only an hour per day each in your on-base home, that is still a total of 30 child care hours. You must be a certified FCC Provider. It pays to be a certified FCC Provider! Certified FCC Providers receive FREE training and support, FREE referrals, FREE materials and equipment, and qualify for child care subsidies.

Air conditioning servicing consists of hooking your car up to a state-of-the-art AC system machine to check the following:
1. RECEIVER-DRIER
The receiver is a metal container that serves as a storage receptacle for the refrigerant. It’s also referred to as a drier because it absorbs moisture from the refrigerant and filters out particles of debris and acids that would otherwise harm your AC system. Commonly located on the liquid line of the AC system, you should change your drier every three to four years to ensure quality filtration and prevent any damage caused by detrimental chemicals. Our machine vacuums and clears out any moisture in the system to ensure the receiver-drier is functioning properly.
2. COMPRESSOR
The compressor is a belt-driven device that derives its name from compressing refrigerant gas and transferring it into the condenser. While acting as a simple pump, the compressor is the core of your vehicle’s air conditioning system. Our machine checks the pressure output of the compressor to make sure it is operating properly.
3. CONDENSER
The condenser’s primary function is to cool the refrigerant. It is a heat dissipating apparatus that radiates heat released by compressed gasses and condenses them into high-pressure liquids. The location of your condenser depends on how new your car is, but it is typically found at the front of the vehicle, directly in front of the engine cooling radiator. We make sure your cooling fan is operating properly and that the vanes in the condenser are clean and free of debris.
4. EVAPORATOR
The evaporator is designed to remove heat from the inside of your vehicle. We check the blower motor's filter/cabin filter of your car to make sure it is working optimally. Lastly, lines and hoses are inspected by applying vacuums and dye to check for leaks.

What is your best Walmsley Bowling Center memory? My best memory I have is bowling 815 during league last January 2019. One other was last year when I did a trick shot of Flying Eagle. I couldn't believe it, but it was amazing to do it.

JULY 1 –31
35 FSS / FSK UNIT 5019, APO, AP 96319-5019
The national health crisis reminds us all of what matters most, our people, our connections and our family. Families form in homes, in units, in communities and workplaces. In this time together, yet apart, we have experienced sadness, joy, humor and for sure some uncertainty and loss. As we look to the future, we hope this year’s contest will invite Airmen and their families to share what family means to them through the lens of their camera.
Participants can enter up to two original images between Wednesday, July 1–Friday, July 31 at https://www.airforcephotocontest.wishpond.com. Visit https://www.35fss.com to see the full list of rules and prizes.
