Pro’s Corner

Want to lower your score? Of course everyone wants to play better and lower their handicap. One of the fastest ways to lower your score is to practice your short game. Putting, chipping and pitching account for 60–70% of your score. It makes sense to work on the area that makes up the largest percentage of your round. As a huge bonus, the practice putting green and practice chipping and pitching areas are FREE to use. No excuses, get out there and practice. With just a bit of practice you will see your scores go down and your enjoyment level go up. Robert E. Jacobus Gosser Golf Course Manager

To help assist with narrowing down the search for NAF positions: in the Keywords Search use the terms Air Force Services and Location Search with Misawa Air Base Japan. Stop by the NAF Human Resources Office in the Torii Building, room 1460 with any questions!

Come work for FSS this summer! Apply now on USAJobs.gov until Friday, June 12. Must be a dependent on PCS orders (Active Duty or DoD Civilian).

What is Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Employment?

NAF employment is considered federal employment. It is different from federal civil service employment because the funding used to pay the salaries of NAF employees comes from a different source. Civil service positions are paid for by money appropriated by Congress. NAF funding is self-generated by Air Force clubs, bowling centers, golf courses and other activities that use NAF employees. We have two types of NAF positions, flexible and regular. Flexible employees have work schedules that depend on the needs of the activity. These employees may work a minimum of zero hours to a maximum of 40 hours per week and do not receive benefits. Regular employees work between 20–40 hours a week depending on position requirements and may be entitled to receive benefits.

Benefits

Employees with regular category positions are eligible for the following benefits: • Health and Life Insurance • Awards • Retirement & 401K Plan • Leave (i.e., annual, sick and military leave) • Overtime, Holiday Pay & Sunday Premium Pay • Shift Differential • Workers' & Unemployment Compensation

Manca Pavlu

My hobbies include spray painting, reading and drinking coffee. My hometown is Jesenice, Slovenia. My favorite part about working in NAF Human Resources is sending out the tentative job offers. I love making an applicant's day by letting them know they are being offered the position they applied for. My favorite part about living in Misawa, Japan is the Japanese culture and definitely curry.

FSSSpotlight What is your favorite part about working in fitness?

What do you wish the Misawa community knew about your programs? I wish the Misawa community knew how valuable they are to our mission's success.

My favorite part about working in fitness is being able to see the finished product of an event and its success after all the hard work I have put in behind the scenes.

What is your best fitness center memory? My best fitness center memory was the Air Force versus Navy basketball game. It was so exciting to watch the battle of the branches.
