T
he current situation calls for above and beyond, and recently the Misawa Club was a part of that. During the past month, over two hundred sailors that deployed to Misawa went into Restriction of Movement upon their arrival. The Sailors were unable to leave the Navy Inn rooms they were assigned. During this period one of the main challenges was feeding these sailors since they could not visit any dining facility on base, nor go out to the grocery store. The Misawa Club stepped up to the plate, and prepped over six hundred meals per day while the sailors were in ROM. The food was cooked in the Club kitchen, packed, trucked over to the Navy Inn, and laid out in a tent erected by the FSS and Civil Engineer Sqadron. Dozens of employees and countless hours were involved in getting hot meals to all these sailors three times per day for two weeks. Thank you to the men and women of the armed forces; the 35th Force Support Squadron is proud to serve you in every way we can. “It’s incredible to see the effort between both branches, Air Force and Navy, working together to ensure that everyone is getting taken care of. We are here to provide a service to the community, whether it is food, programming or entertainment. I think it was a great show of support that we were able to do this for them.” - 35th FSS Club Complex General Manager Marcos “Marcus” Matos

Gosser Golf Course FSS Together Through COVID-19 Reaching Out Across Japan In April, Misawa Air Base's Gosser Golf Course manager, Robert E. Jacobus sent in a video to the Alpine Golf Course at Aviano Air Base, Italy to give them tips to keep up their golf skills while in quarantine. Tips included golf ball balancing, indoor cross country golf, chipping, putting, and keeping your equipment clean and organized. He finished with the importance of staying connected with fellow golfers, watching instructional videos online, stretching and exercising as much as possible. Keeping up with a hobby or skill is a great way to get through this time, no matter where you are, and leaning on each other is not cancelled. You can watch Robert's tips on Facebook @Gosser Golf Course & Lakeview Grille.
Kids Drive FREE
Friday, May 1–Friday, July 31 Ages 6–18 Junior golfers receive two FREE Range tokens per visit. It is a great way to get out to the Range and practice. Invite your parents to come out and join you! The Range is open daily and is even lit up for nighttime practice.
Save the Date! Find upcoming tournament information, hole playing tips and more at hps://35fss.com/gossergolf-course/.
Driving Range
Spring is here and golfers with tokens or e-keys can practice their swing on the Driving Range any time. Our automated teeing system places the ball for you so you can perfect your skills with ease and enjoyment. If you don't have tokens or e-keys, visit the Pro Shop Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.–4 p.m. to get yours.
Pro’s Corner Dress for success! Traditionally golf has been a bit “stuffy” when it comes to acceptable aire but the times have changed a bit. When we head out the door we need to be aware that we are wearing speaks volumes. At the golf course, including the practice areas and the Lakeview Grille, clothing may not have offensive language or pictures. While it is not required to wear a collared shirt and long pants, tank tops, short shorts or revealing clothing is not acceptable. As a safety precaution, footwear must be worn at all times. I want everyone to come out and have fun but please avoid an embarrassing situation and dress for the occasion. Robert E. Jacobus General Manager, Gosser Golf Course

Congress officially designated Military Spouse Appreciation Day as part of National Military Appreciation Month in 1999. Subsequently, the Department of Defense standardized the date by declaring the Friday before Mother's Day every year as "Miitary Spouse Appreciation Day" to show appreciation for the sacrifices of military spouses.
Friday, May 8
Each year, we honor the contributuions and sacrifices our military spouses make and their commitment and support to help keep our country safe. America's military spouses are the backbone of our families who support our trooops during mission, deployment, reintegration and reset. They are silent heroes who have left behind everything they know and love to serve alongside their loved ones in uniform.

Education & Training Services Online Learning Prep
Get Ready for Online Learning
In today's world, we do everything on the computer, so going to college in the comfort of your own space sounds great, right? But are you ready for online classes? Classroom-based and online learning are extremely different. Both have pros and cons, and understanding your level of readiness for each type of learning will help ensure successful course completion. The Distance Learning Readiness Self-Assessment (DLRSA) helps prospective military students decide if they're ready for online learning. This short assessment will help you gain insight to prepare for a positive distance learning experience. The DLRSA was developed to help you recognize your skills, spot possible weaknesses, and prepare for the challenges of online education.
Student Benefits
Characteristics for a successful online education experience:
the DLRSA helps you: > > > >

FSS Spotlight
Michelle Cruz
NAF Human Resources Director What is your favorite part about working for NAF HRO? There are different elements in the Human Resources field, but I like recruitment. Recruitment involves finding and hiring the right candidates, performance management, helping our employees continually improve and finding ways to reward good work. What do you wish the Misawa Community knew about your programs? NAF employment is considered federal employment. As a NAF employee, you can avail from different benefits such as NAF Tuition Assistance, time-off awards, cash awards and federal service recognition. What is your best NAF HRO memory? I remember recruiting an entry level food service worker and throughout the years encouraging the employee to excel in the position. I later found out the employee is in a leadership role in the food, beverage and hospitality field. It feels good to see the recruitment and retention of Human Resources come full circle.

Social distancing doesn’t mean that we cannot find creative ways to connect too o ces needs. Here’s what FSS is doing to make sure that all resources OVERSTREET MEMORIAL LIBRARY
YOIKO CDC & CHELI SAC
Readers who earn all challenge badges on https://dodvirtualsrp.beanstack.org will also be entered into a final gift card drawing. All ages are encouraged to participate!
The Yoiko CDC and Cheli SAC continues to provide safe, quality care for our military and DoD children and families by following the commander’s instruction of wearing masks. We are also providing hand sanitizer at the front desk for families and visitors to use upon entering the building. The shortening of our hours of operation (7 a.m.–4:30 p.m.) have enabled our staff to provide daily deep cleaning in the classrooms and ensure sanitation and safety for our staff, children and families during current events. The Cheli SAC staff have also been providing homework help!
WALMSLEY BOWLING CENTER
GOSSER GOLF COURSE & LAKEVIEW GRILLE
Spring into Reading with the Overstreet Memorial Library! The virtual spring reading program is happening now though Saturday, May 16. Read or be read to at least an hour a week to be entered into gift card drawings.
To promote social distancing, Bumpers Grill dining seating has been reduced and spaced out. Bowling is restricted to three people per lane and six people per pair of lanes. Unassigned lanes will be used to separate assigned lanes. Parents of school children are welcome to pick up two FREE bowling pins per child for schooling and art projects for home.
COMMUNITY COMMONS
Neither rain, nor snow, nor global pandemic can keep the Easter Bunny away! While this Easter was not quite as festive as originally planned, the Community Commons made lemonade out of Easter eggs by having the Easter Bunny hand out candy to drive-thru customers right in front of the Commons. Your local dentist reminds you to enjoy the candy in moderation.
MILITARY PERSONNEL
The MPS Office is here for you, with a few adjustments to ensure social distancing guidelines are followed. They are seeing people by appointment only, and have extended their schedule to allow for firebreak hours. Their new schedule is Monday-Friday, between the hours of 7–11 a.m. and 1–5 p.m. Book an appointment online at https://35fss.com/military-personnel/.

Golfing has always been a great way to pause the dayto-day, get some exercise and fresh air. You can head to The Range and practice your golfing skills anytime if you have tokens or an e-key. Gosser Golf Course is welcoming cherry blossoms, so play a round of golf during the best time of the year. While you're there, grab a Lakeview Grille favorite. To-go options are offered every day from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Call 957-1564 to place an order. Golfers stick together; the Gosser Golf Course has been reaching out to our FSS allies during COVID-19.
