Behold our God TUESDAY-FRIDAY 9:30AM @ MEDRUS, PENBRYN
“Where you invest your love, you invest your life.” Every decision you make begins with a choice – and it’s not “should I do what’s right or wrong?” Every second of every day you choose to act based on what (or who) you love – aka your treasure. Your heart always wins. Now for the good news: God comes to win our hearts. How? Who is He? What difference does it make? This week, we’ll behold our God and together, have our hearts won, warmed and changed! Don’t come to learn. Come to love.
The God who is trinity TUESDAY, LED BY DAVE SEARIGHT “God is love, because He is trinity.” (Michael Reeves in ‘The Good God’) God has revealed Himself to us - not as a Power or Santa in the sky, but as trinity. We know what you’re thinking but actually this could be the most significant hour of your life. Seriously! God is love - it’s so much more than dodgy maths...
The God who provides WEDNESDAY, LED BY IAN PARRY “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good…” (Genesis 50:20) We struggle to make big decisions all the time, and there is great comfort in the truth that God is in charge. But what does it actually mean? Even Muslims and Hindus believe that god/karma will work everything out in the end. What about trinity? This session will help us see that His Providence is so much better.
The God who triumphs THURSDAY, LED BY VAUGHAN ROBERTS “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us.” (Galatians 3:13) The gospel is Good News because God (trinity!) has triumphed over sin, death and our stubborn hearts. It’s no accident then that the cross has become the principle ‘symbol’ of Christianity. In this session we’ll explore why it’s so central and why there’s so much blood!
The God who adopts FRIDAY, LED BY STUART OLYOTT “If you want to judge how well a person understands Christianity, find out how much they make of the thought of being God’s child, and having God as their Father.” (J.I. Packer in ‘Knowing God’) The Father’s adoption of slaves is more than a legal transaction; it’s the life-relationship of every Christian! The implications are huge…

Seminars+Workshops Every good endeavour
MONDAY 2:30PM, MEDRUS (PENBRYN), LED BY JOHN PERRY During every stage of life, school, uni and work (we’re too young to think about retirement right now!) we know the Lord has placed us precisely where we are to glorify Him. But what does that involve in practice? We’ll look at some of the key principles shown in the Bible about this before splitting into three groups, one for each of those stages. In them we’ll have the chance to share with others facing some of the same unique challenges and opportunities available.
Which way to go?
MONDAY 4PM, MEDRUS (PENBRYN), LED BY JAMES ALLAN Western life gives us almost total freedom to decide where we’ll live and what we’ll do. It leaves us however with the problem of choice. Seeking first the kingdom of God is our aim but how does that help us decide between a masters in Birmingham or a job in Leeds? We’re not going to tell you what choices to make in this seminar, instead we’ll be seeing how our relationship with God and His living word guides us.
And how shall they hear? WEDNESDAY 4PM, CAPEL Y MORFA, LED BY MIKE CHALMERS
We all want to share the gospel and especially with our friends. That said, if we wrote down a list of how many of us have had that magic ‘so tell me about Jesus’ conversation with the BFF we’d probably fill the back of a stamp! Evangelism isn’t about having the perfect 2 minute gospel talk. It’s about having genuine and close friendships through which the gospel is shared in the midst of life’s ups and downs. You won’t get techniques and tactics here. It’ll be about how to fill your life with Jesus and then live it faithfully and lovingly amongst others.
#doesthekingdomextendtohere? THURSDAY 4PM, CAPEL Y MORFA, LED BY ANDREW NORBURY
In the end while the revolution was indeed not televised it was tweeted by millions around the globe. It is hard to ignore how social media is reshaping our relationships and even how we portray and view ourselves. We’re all using it so let’s ask ourselves the hard questions. Can Twitter be used to convey the gospel? Is our love of God visible on our Facebook profiles? Is Jesus the Lord of our virtual lives? These are the sort of things we’ll consider in this seminar.

Extratime Late extratime late is an hour-long evening meeting to help you reflect on the day and continue to worship God. It’s more relaxed than either a preaching service or a seminar, but the message of the Bible, and God Himself, remain central.
Delighted by God SUNDAY 8:15PM, ALFRED PLACE
The Aberystwyth Conference is a great time of learning more about God. However, we want to do more than just fill up our heads. So come ready to be delighted by God - to be transformed. To kick off the week with a bang, we’ll be encouraging each other to focus on God with our hearts as well as our heads.
Truth for Life
MONDAY 9:30PM, MEDRUS (PENBRYN) Make sure you join us as we interview our main conference speaker for the week, Alistair Begg. We’ll find out more about his theme for the week, how someone born in Glasgow ends up in Cleveland, Ohio and much more in between. If you’ve got a question you’d like to ask Alistair – get in touch on twitter or speak to one of the extratime team.
Reflect & Revere TUESDAY 9:30PM, MEDRUS (PENBRYN)
You can guarantee in Aber that you’ll hear some great preaching that shows us how great God is. It’s a lot harder to ensure you’ll find time to delve into the Bible and chew it over with your brothers and sisters. Join us as we strip it right back and let the word speak to us. We’ll grapple with some awesome truths about the great assurance we have because of the gospel and the breath-taking future waiting for us. Bring your Bible and a mind ready to be blown!

Is Jesus worth it? WEDNESDAY 9:30PM, MEDRUS (PENBRYN)
As Christians we know the correct answer. But let’s be honest, in the midst of everyday heartache and temptation it’s a question we struggle with (or completely ignore!). Tonight Vaughan Roberts will be with us and together we’ll reflect on loving Jesus all the time – no matter what happens.
question Time
THURSDAY 9:30PM, MEDRUS (PENBRYN) Now an extratime staple! Make sure you put your questions to Alistair Begg, Iain D. Campbell and Tirzah L. Jones. Answers will be biblical and practical and cover a range of topics. All we ask is we have your question by 5pm on Thursday.
Behold our God FRIDAY 9:30PM, MEDRUS (PENBRYN)
What better way to round the week off with an evening of prayer and praise?! We’ll reflect on the main themes of extratime13 and remember that we have an amazing God who’s not only with us in Aber but will be with us when we leave.
Other events There’s more to extratime than seminars, workshops and late-night meetings. Our other events give you opportunity to relax, eat, and compete. Whether you’ve come to the conference on your own, or as part of a group, why not join us? Mike & Jim’s poorly named but a lot of fun quiz SATURDAY 8:30PM, ALFRED PLACE
What’s the capital of Paraguay? Who is Jay-Z’s cousin? Where was the first Aber Conference held? These are just some of the questions that won’t be asked at the annual extratime quiz! (If you know the questions in advance it’s generally considered less of a challenge.) But if you like fun with a capital PH then come along Saturday night for a chance to find fortune and glory! (Note: prize will just be sweets.)
Beach BBQ
TUESDAY 5PM, SOUTH BEACH Come along and chill out with other extratimers after the Open Air at our BBQ. We’ll be on the South Beach which is the other side of the castle from the pier. If you’re not sure – just follow the smoke. A donation of £2 is helpful but not required.
Newcomers’ Lunch MONDAY 1PM, MEDRUS (PENBRYN)
If this is your first time in Aber or if you’ve come on your own, come along and enjoy a free lunch on us. You’ll get to know other people as well as enjoying “A rough guide to Aber”.
Sports afternoon FRIDAY 2PM, UNIVERSITY ASTROTURF AND SPORT HALL
One of the highlights of the week for many. The football (for boys and girls) and netball (girls only) tournaments have become something of an institution at extratime, and are open to anyone who is older than 12. To join in you’ll need to hand in your sheet by the Thursday evening. Team sheets are available from MedRus or the EMW Welcome Desk at the Great Hall. The cost is £1 per person.

speakers: Vaughan Roberts came to faith as a teenager. He studied law at Cambridge University and a brief spell doing student ministry in South Africa, before moving to Oxford to study Theology at Wycliffe Hall and has lived in the city ever since. In 1991 he joined the staff of St Ebbe’s Church to lead the student ministry and since 1998 he has been Rector. He is also the Director of the Proclamation Trust and a founder member of “9:38”. In his spare time Vaughan writes books and plays cricket and golf. Alistair Begg was once a young person himself and he really enjoys every opportunity to speak to young people. Although he has lived in America for 30 years, he is still an avid football fan and plays golf with a passion that is unfortunately not matched by his ability. Having benefited greatly in his teenage years from the Bible teaching of older men, he is now thankful for the chance to fill that role himself. Tirzah L. Jones was raised in Shropshire, England, where her father was the minister at Wem Baptist Church. This was where she was converted as a child. Tirzah did a BA Hons. in Theological Studies at the Evangelical Theological College of Wales, Bryntirion, after which she spent time in South Wales working in various youth groups. Tirzah worked for a number of years as the fulltime youth worker at Kesgrave Baptist Church, Ipswich, and now works as Director of Youth Ministries for DayOne. Tirzah has been trained how to use a rifle during combat! Iain D. Campbell is a native of the Isle of Lewis in northwest Scotland, where he is currently the pastor of the Free Church of Scotland congregation in Point. He is also Adjunct Professor of Church History at Westminster Theological Seminary (sounds posh!). Iain is married to Anne, a teacher, and they have three grown up children. A keen blogger (mainly about the Christian faith, but other subjects too) he can be found on twitter @revdridc Stuart Olyott has spent his life as a pastor and missionary and still remains an author. He has often preached at Aber and spoken at extratime. He and his wife, Doll, adopted eight children and brought up several more, and he is therefore especially glad to speak on “The God who Adopts”.

John Perry was brought up as a missionary kid in Asia then studied International Relations at Aber Uni. He is now the UCCF Staff Worker for North Wales - clearly he enjoys travelling! John is married to Bethan (also a UCCF Staff Worker!) and they’ve recently had a new housemate - their son, Ioan. John is a pretty useful rugby player and also enjoys surfing, food and reading theology. James Allan lives in Blackwood and is a member of Bethel Evangelical Baptist Church, Cefn Hengoed in the Rhymney valley. He lives in Blackwood and is married to Esther. They have three boys - Joshua, Joseph and Daniel. James is the deputy head teacher of a comprehensive school in Cardiff. David Searight is a member of the Cor Deo mentor team. Prior to joining Cor Deo, David was a youth pastor in a rural city in the State of Oregon. Also he formally served as a Theology Network Associate Staff Worker with UCCF alongside his postgraduate studies at New College in Edinburgh. He’s married to Erin, and they have three children. When he’s not reading theology or history he loves sports, a good movie, and a big juicy cheeseburger. Ian Parry is the minister of The Bay Church in Cardiff, which he led the planting of in 2003. He trained at London Theological Seminary and Wales Evangelical School of Theology. Before coming to Cardiff he was, for eight years, the minister of Mount Elim Evangelical Church in Pontardawe. He is married to Liz and has four children. Ian enjoys carefully arranging the chairs at church on a Sunday morning into well organised curved rows. Mike Chalmers is a son to Bill and Rachel, a brother to Rebecca and uncle to Max, Jack and Noah. The last 12 months have been the longest he’s lived outside Wales since 1999 - he really misses mountains and the sea! Mike is about to start working for Cor Deo in Chippenham (so no mountains and sea for a while yet!). He enjoys movies, lasagne and walks in the park. Andrew Norbury is co-pastor at Peniel Evangelical Church, Maesteg, South Wales – a role he’s been doing for 18 months. He is married to Lisa, who gave birth to their son Tomos in October last year. Andrew (like the rest of his family) is a big fan of Everton Football Club.
