OUR FORESTS. FOREVER.

For 100 years, Save the Redwoods League has stood between California’s iconic redwood trees and the axe. We held the line, saving the last of the world’s ancient redwoods. Now, we’re poised to set in motion a new future for our forests; to shift from slowing degradation to advancing regeneration and restoration of the redwood forest ecosystem—with your help. We’re dramatically scaling up our pace, reach, and impact. We’re changing California’s story, reviving the forests that were almost lost. We’re welcoming visitors from around the world and inspiring them to follow our lead. We have the knowledge, opportunity, and, most importantly, the responsibility to act now. And, together with you, we will.

YOU CAN PLAY AN OUTSIZED ROLE. Jon Parmentier

One hundred years ago, a group of visionaries saw the threat to California’s iconic redwood forests and took action. That initiative launched Save the Redwoods League and sparked a global conservation movement. Today, California—and the world—need us to be equally visionary. More than 1 million acres of coast redwood forests remain unprotected and await their fate, still in the hands of a few timber companies. And the giant sequoia, after 150 years of misguided fire suppression, are more vulnerable than ever. But Save the Redwoods League is poised to protect all of these titans of the forest, forever. Save the Redwoods League envisions redwood forests of the grandeur that

once graced the California coast and Sierra Nevada— protected forever, restored to grow old again, and connected to people in parks that inspire the world.

Join a new generation of visionaries to return our redwood forests to the vibrancy and health that existed before our lifetimes. What you do today will have an outsized impact on one of the world’s most ancient and treasured forests—forever.

When the stakes are high, that’s when we step up. The stakes could not be higher than they are right now. Reports from the United Nations 2018 Climate Summit suggest that we are the first generation to feel the impacts of climate change, and the last who can do anything about it.

Thankfully, our redwood forests support biodiversity, carbon sequestration, and habitat resilience. They can restore the balance—with your help. If we take this final opportunity to lead the charge for large-scale restoration and regeneration, our forests will survive and thrive to benefit future generations. The fate of one of California’s most iconic landscapes is still within our control. Redwood forests, right in our own backyard, are critical components of a healthy climate and resilient future.

“I grew up in Humboldt County amid the serenity of the redwoods, but my husband, a Vietnam veteran, didn’t. When we first met, he had such a debilitating case of post-traumatic stress disorder that he couldn’t step into a forest without being overcome with fear and anxiety. He carried this burden for many years. Then, with his hesitant agreement, I took him into the redwoods, and we spent the night under the canopy. He felt the awe, beauty, and peace these forests provide. And for the first time since the war, his experience of the forest was not one of fear, but of healing and gratitude. Since that day 40 years ago, we have supported Save the Redwoods League. We know that countless others have had transformative experiences amid these giants. We know our healing isn’t unique—but the old-growth redwood forest is. We’ll always be its protectors.” — Christa Lyons, League Councilor and Legacy Circle Member

When you support the Forever Forest Campaign, you help restore redwood forests and the natural ecosystems that sustain them, and give everyone the opportunity to experience the transformational impact of these awe-inspiring trees.

WHAT WE’VE PROTECTED IS NOT YET SAVED. Saving ancient redwood trees from the axe was herculean, and it showed us how much we can accomplish together. Now, our next success must be helping the trees we’ve saved regain their resilience as part of a forever forest. We must be champions—for the redwoods and for California. Today, the coast redwood groves we’ve protected are like islands in a sea of industrial timberland and logging roads, vulnerable and disconnected from one another and the natural systems that sustain them. And for the giant sequoia, a century of fire exclusion has left the groves vulnerable to catastrophic fire.

They are more like exhibits preserved in a museum than the mighty forests and resilient ecosystems they once were. Yet, these forests have a tremendous capacity to regenerate, heal, and return to their natural splendor. Through our own bold investments in land protection, we can help restore the healthy ecosystems that deliver redwood forests’ unique and extraordinary suite of benefits. That’s how we turn the tide—not for a year, or a century, but forever.

With your support, the Forever Forest Campaign will ensure the coast redwoods and giant sequoia anchor and sustain the resilient ecosystems upon which our survival depends— the forests that support clean water, wildlife, and people for millennia to come. For the past century, Save the Redwoods League has been purchasing what’s left of the old-growth redwood forests and protecting them in redwood parks and preserves. But we must do more. We need to bolster those ancient groves by connecting them with young forests. This not only sustains the surrounding ancient trees but also fosters the old-growth forests of the future. Protecting and restoring whole landscapes is how we realize our vision for the future of California’s redwood forests.

NOW IS OUR MOMENT.

Redwood forests are emblematic of nature’s grandeur. They are a reminder that experiencing and stewarding our environment is part of who we are as Californians, as Americans, and as humans. And, in an era when the world faces a loss of biodiversity and habitat at unprecedented rates, protecting and restoring the redwood forests and connecting people to them is one of the most important and impactful investments we can make in our future. The Forever Forest Campaign will accelerate the pace, scale, and impact of redwood forests, set in motion the regeneration of the forests we have lost, and ensure the people of California have a redwood park system that is as globally unique and inspiring as the forests themselves.

When you join the Forever Forest Campaign, you are making an urgent and critical investment to the health of our redwood forests and building resilience into our global ecosystem—right here at home.

TOGETHER, WE WILL: PROTECT
