Overcoming Emotion Read 1 Samuel 30:1-20. Here's what jumped out end.” He encouraged himself so he could enat me as I read through these inspiring verses: courage others also and put hope and strength into those who were grieving in the situation. 1 Samuel 30:4: They wept until they had no more power to weep. 1 Samuel 30:8: “And David enquired at the Lord, saying...” Don't just give in to despair when trouble comes upon you. Many things will happen to you in life, especially as you decide to serve God, but don't mourn as those who have no hope... You might, like these men, have lost all your earthly store, but if you have God in a real way, you have everything you need and if it pleases Him, you can surely get it all back with an abundance.

1 Samuel 30:6: “And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him.”

David had lost his things and his two wives also and beyond all this, the people spake of stoning him.

Verse 6: “…but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.”

David didn't let the pressure of the situation or circumstance cause him to act hastily, but even in this dire circumstance with his wives’ lives in danger and his men thinking to stone him with stones, he took time to pray and get before God and say, “shall I pursue after this troop?” Lord, what would you have me to do? I can react after my emotion or I can react after my pride, but it’s better if I get before God and pray. God will give me some good counsel. God will spell some things out for me. He'll let me know what the outcome will be that I might go boldly with confidence.

When I go according to God's command, I can go without fear or apprehension because “thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me...” (Psalms 23:4).

God let him know that He'd overtake them and When you have a personal relationship with God, without fail recover all. you can be encouraged even in a discouraging situation. You have a reason to hope against hope. 1 Samuel 30:10: “But David pursued, he and four hundred men: for two hundred abode behind, which were so faint that they could not go over David encouraged himself. He didn't wait for anythe brook Besor.” one else to encourage him. He didn't wait for anyone else to say, “It's going to be alright. Don't worry about it. Overcoming Emotion so weak from crying until they had no more power to cry and couldn't pursue?

Discouragement and despair will rob you of your vital energy. The joy of the Lord is your strength. We should never get so weak that we can't pursue or do what God would have us to do. The enemy of our souls is just looking for an opportunity to take us out. So, if we just give in to depression or downheartedness, we will be an easy target for him. We can't take any discouragement in the midst of this battle – we must, like Paul, “count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord...” (Philippians 3:8).

cued his two wives. And there was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great... David recovered all. And David took all the flocks and herds... this is David's spoil.”

God gave David all that he had lost and more besides. When you order your battle according to what God would have you do, you'll get back what the devil took and more besides. You will surely recover all.

1 Samuel 30:11: “And they found an Egyptian in the field…” When a man’s ways please God, He will make even his enemies to be at peace with him (ref. Proverbs 16:7).

1 Samuel 30:17 “And David smote them from the twilight even unto the evening of the next day: and there escaped not a man of them, save four hundred young men, which rode upon camels, and fled.”

For some situations, it may take time to deal with them unto a satisfactory conclusion, but if you're willing to lay with it (pray until it changes or you hear from heaven) and work with it, you'll make a final end of it.

1 Samuel 30:18-20: “And David recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away: and David resCopyright Mission Globe 2013
