August is Foundations’ Month! This month, we focus on how our foundations and how they support the Club’s values of tradition, community and culture. This past year in particular, the Preservation Foundation has been on the minds of many Members as we saw the restoration and rejuvenation of our historic Downtown Clubhouse come to life. With the help of a large grant from the Robert J. Trulaske Jr. Family Foundation and generous donations from Members, a stunning transformation took place, and I love seeing it every time I drive up to the Clubhouse! I never thought I’d see this project completed in my lifetime, and it’s all because of the Preservation Foundation and our awesome Members participating in various fundraisers. This month, you will see green chits scattered around the Clubhouse. They provide you an opportunity to throw in $5 or whatever you feel is appropriate to help continue to the preservation of the Downtown Clubhouse and other historically significant structures in the City of St. Louis. Our annual golf tournament is at the end of the month on Aug. 30, and it’s a fun way to raise money for the MAC’s foundations. We’re always looking for additional auction prizes that will allow us to raise funds for the foundations, so if you or your business has something to offer, please let Katie Maurer know at kmaurer@ mac-stl.org. Even if you are not a golfer, come join us at Glen Echo Country Club that evening for dinner, the auction and other festivities. It’s an evening full of MAC camaraderie and fellowship all for a great cause: the Preservation Foundation. This year, we have something new, and we hope everyone is as excited about it as we are! In 2021, you have the opportunity to win a three-year lease of an Acura MDX from golf tournament presenting sponsor Mungenast St. Louis Acura. This is an opportunity for someone to win a great car for three years at no cost to them. Raffle tickets are $125 apiece or $500 for five. Visit the foundations page on the MAC website to purchase yours! All proceeds go into our Preservation Foundation, and at the end of the day, someone’s going to walk away with a great new car. Oh, and you get to pick it out! Special thanks to Kurt Mungenast and his whole team at the dealership who are huge supporters of the MAC! EMPLOYEE HIGHLIGHT: To mirror President Minges’ Member Highlight, I’d like to recognize Gena Willis, the most awesome executive assistant that ever lived. Gena is my righthand person and keeps me out of trouble most days. She keeps me on track and on time, and the MAC wouldn’t run as smoothly without her. In addition to that, she is the coordinator of all the Board of Governors meetings, committee meetings and is the keeper of minutes and records. She’s our resident bylaw expert and keeps us all straightened out. Gena is in her ninth year; I’m entering my 10th, and she’s been a huge part of our team. Hats off to Gena! Thank you for all you do. Don’t forget that this month is your last chance to receive a $500 Club Card when you refer a new Member to the Club! This program has been hugely successful, but all good things must come to an end, and this program has run its course. But if you want to get in on this program, now is the time to do it. Referral Card Program Ends Soon!
The deadline to receive your Platinum Bonus Card is fast approaching. Through August, for each new Member referred to the Club, the referring Member will receive a Platinum Bonus of a $500 Club Card. F With each new Member referred to the Club, the referring Member will receive a $500 Platinum Bonus Card. F There is no limit on the number of incentives a sponsoring Member can earn and more than one new Member can be referred for a Platinum Bonus Card in any given month. F The Platinum Bonus Card will not be awarded after the prospective Member has been approved by the Board of Governors. F The Platinum Bonus Card will not be granted if the Membership Department introduces the new Member to the active Member. F The Monthly Membership Mixer is the perfect place to introduce potential Members to the Club. ANNUAL VETERANS DAY COMMEMORATION Call for Nominations
Save the date! This year’s Veterans Day Commemoration event will take place on Thursday, Nov. 11 at the Downtown Clubhouse. At this annual event, the MAC will honor the Veteran of the Year, a retired or former member of the U.S. military from the St. Louis area who demonstrates support of veterans and the U.S. in everyday life, who serves as a role model for other citizens, and who is respected for his or her service to veterans. If you know a deserving veteran, nominate him or her for Veteran of the Year. The Veterans Day Committee will review the nominations and select the individual to receive the award based on the criteria listed on the nomination form.
To nominate an individual, complete the nomination form located online under Member Central > Documents and submit to Katie Maurer by Friday, Aug. 20. For each submission, include a brief description of why this nominee should be selected for the MAC Honored Veteran of the Year. Be specific in describing military service, civilian and/or military achievements. For full details, view the nomination form. F
