2022 WOMEN OF DISTINCTION

On Friday, Oct. 7, the Missouri Athletic Club hosted the 11th annual Women of Distinction event to honor six local women, including one rising star, who have been revolutionary in business, civic engagement, philanthropic programs and mentorship. The 2022 honorees have made a significant impact in many ways, but mostly through demonstrating excellence, growth, grit and empathy.

The 2022 Women of Distinction honorees are Lilian Doan Davis, Laurna Godwin, Dr. Christine Jacobs, Tamara Keefe, Nancy Meyer, Carol Rogers and Dr. Margaret Reynolds (Rising Star). Congratulations to all! The MAC thanks you for your dedication to improving the St. Louis region and leading others by example!

CALLING ALL SOCCER FANS!

The Missouri Athletic Club has a rich tradition of soccer, symbolized in the Hermann Trophy, awarded to the most outstanding men’s and women’s collegiate soccer players. In the spirit of the Hermann Trophy and St. Louis’ rich soccer culture, the Club is exploring the creation of a Member group focused on the world’s most popular sport. Potential activities for the group include watch parties as the World Cup kicks off this November, involvement with the Hermann Trophy Award and competing in offsite league play. If you are would like to learn more about participating in the new group, please contact Garrett Leahy at gmleahy57@gmail.com to express your interest.

MAC EMPLOYEE Holiday Fund

The holiday season is fast approaching, prompting us to reflect on the outstanding year of events and accomplishments we have enjoyed. None of these events would have been possible without exceptional staff members’ diligent work throughout the year. We see them every day, or we don’t see them—we see the effects of their work in the locker rooms, the kitchen, the basement laundry room and engineering offices. The Club’s hardworking staff is what keeps both Clubhouses running smoothly.

Annually, the Employee Holiday Fund extends a holiday bonus to the Missouri Athletic Club staff and supports the MAC charitable entities. The MAC’s employees are always incredibly thankful to the Club’s Membership for this outpouring of appreciation. This year, a portion of the funds will be allocated to the Charitable Society for Children (CSC) and used to carry on the Club’s values of tradition, community and culture.

On your Oct. 31, 2022, statement (both paper and digital), please notice a voluntary contribution charge in the amount of $100 shown as “Empl Holiday/Foundations Cont.” Unless you notify the accounting office otherwise, the funds will be allocated as shown: F $95 Employee Holiday Fund F $5 MAC Charitable Society for Children (tax-deductible)

Remember, these contributions are entirely voluntary and can be left as-is, requiring nothing further from you. Alternatively, you may adjust or eliminate your contribution by contacting the Accounting Department or using the form available on the MAC website.

American Legion National Commander Visits the MAC

By Judith Hanses, Past Governor

The Missouri Athletic Club’s own American Legion Stockham-Post #4 had the honor of a visit from National Commander Vincent “Jim” Troiola, a first for the Post and the MAC. President Brent Beumer welcomed him to the Club at a breakfast on Sept. 28, in the Veterans Room, accompanied by other MAC Members who belong to Post #4.

Elected head of the 2 million member American Legion at the July 2022 national convention, Commander Troiola announced a national six-to-seven-year focus on preventing veteran suicide, calling all legionnaires to “Be The One” to identify veterans at risk and help them find preventive care. From the Post’s 20-foot 1956 Legion Junior Baseball National Championship banner in the MAC lobby to a crowd of legionnaires in the fourth-floor Veterans Room, the MAC provided a rousing welcome. Congratulations to Legion Post #4 for being selected to host National Commander Troiola.
