Stewart Named St. Louis Open Champion

The Club was delighted to welcome 24 international proplayers from around the world, who competed for world tour ranking points, at the Missouri Athletic Club West Clubhouse over Sept. 20-24.

In the finals, Rory Stewart defeated Curtis Malik (11-6, 12-10, 9-11, 11-9) in 65 minutes. Congratulations to St. Louis Open Champion Rory Stewart, who secured his seventh PSA World Tour title. A great effort was made by Malik, having now made two PSA finals in a row.

The squash program extends thanks to the supportive MAC Members, patrons and staff who helped make this tournament a reality. A very special thank you to the event’s title sponsor Mark McClanahan with Mosby Building Arts.

FALL SQUASH JUNIOR CLINICS

FUTURE STARS (AGES 7-11)

Tuesday, 3:45-4:45 p.m. and Saturday, 1-2 p.m. F This is a great opportunity to introduce kids to a high-paced and strategic racquet sport! F Learn the basic technical stroke fundamentals, combined with fun games. F Equipment provided!

HIGH-PERFORMANCE (AGES 11-15)

Monday, 4:30-5:30 p.m.; Wednesday, 4:30-5:30 p.m. and Saturday, 12-1 p.m. F These sessions focus on developing solid technical fundamentals, improving shot consistency, learning effective match tactics and fun games. F It is advised for players to take individual lessons at least once a week to fine-tune technique.

ELITE ACADEMY (AGES 14+)

Tuesday, 4:45-5:45 p.m.; Thursday, 4:30-5:30 p.m. and Saturday, 2-3 p.m F These sessions focus on advanced drilling, racquet work, learning how to link shot combinations together, executing match tactics and mental preparation. F It is advised for players to take individual lessons at least once a week to fine-tune technique.

JOIN THE Winter Basketball League

Join one of the Missouri Athletic Club’s longest-standing traditions and register for a basketball league. Registration for the winter league is open from Nov. 18-Dec. 14. The open league plays on Monday and Tuesday nights, and the over-40 league plays on Wednesday nights. Both leagues begin the week of Jan. 2. Members can participate in both leagues if they qualify by age (must turn 40 during the 2023 calendar year to qualify). $90 per person, per league

Ladies’ Interclub Participation on the Rise

Between the fun of cardio tennis, the encouragement of tennis pros and chatter among friends, players are moving toward competitive tennis and enjoying it! It’s a good bet that the newbies and the more seasoned players on the team will join for a fun and winning season! The Ladies’ Interclub Group is now accepting new additions. Stutz Selected as New MAC Tennis Director

The Missouri Athletic Club is pleased to announce the selection of Scott Stutz as the MAC’s next Tennis Director. Stutz began his new position in mid-October alongside Kim Steinmetz, who will be retiring at the end of 2022. Steinmetz will remain part of the tennis program as she continues to serve her long-time lessons. Stutz, who has been part of the MAC tennis program for 24 years, grew up in New England. He won a Connecticut high school title and then played Division I tennis at Central Connecticut State University. After college, Stutz competed at the professional level in Satellite events, taught with Tennis Unlimited and was the “Learn to Play” Director at the Little Rock Racquet Club.

He has enjoyed working with many Members over the years and is proud to have helped develop several of St. Louis’ elite junior players, who have achieved top national rankings and held successful college careers.

Stutz said, “The MAC has a strong and vibrant program. I am honored to have been selected to be the next Tennis Director and look forward to working with the Members to continue to increase the program’s value.”

Fall League

The Fall Racquetball League is currently underway, with a total of three divisions playing. There are 26 players participating this season. Finals for all divisions begin Friday, Dec. at 4 p.m. at the West Clubhouse. Members and players are encouraged to attend and support their favorite players. There will be cocktails during the finals.

Winter and Spring League

Begins January 2023 10-Week Season | $25 per player

Players are divided by level into three divisions (A, B and C). Weekly singles matches are assigned to participants. Weekly matches are set up by opponents at a common time. Match results are recorded on the bulletin board in racquetball. Players will receive a league directory with everyone’s contact info. At the end of the 10-week season, players are placed in a tournament bracket that occurs over a two-week span. To register, contact David Fuhrig at dfuhrig@mac-stl.org or 314-539-4444.

Thanksgiving Hours

The Downtown Athletic Department will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 24, in observance of the Thanksgiving Day Holiday. On Friday, Nov. 25, the department will be open for limited hours from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. The Downtown Athletic Department will reopen with regular hours on Saturday, Nov. 26.
