ARENADO SNAGS SPORTS PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR Cardinals third baseman to be honored at 53rd Jack Buck Sports Awards on Dec. 7 Third baseman Nolan Arenado thrilled Cardinal fans this past season with his spectacular Gold Glove defense and hitting heroics. Members of the Missouri Athletic Club have voted him the 2022 Sports Personality of the Year, an award that MAC Member Jack Buck established in 1970 to annually honor the top St. Louis sports figure. Arenado will be presented with the award at the 53rd annual Jack Buck Sports Awards banquet, presented by Redbird Carriers, on Wednesday, Dec. 7. The Cardinals traded for Arenado in 2021. Following a strong debut season in St. Louis, he elevated his game in 2022, becoming a contender, along with teammate Paul Goldschmidt, for the National League Most Valuable Player Award. In addition to his spectacular glove work at third base, Arenado
was a force at the plate, hitting 30 home runs and 103 runs batted in with a .293 batting average. Arenado is the 25th member of the Cardinals organization to win the award, joining other legendary players like Bob Gibson (1970), Lou Brock (1973), Ozzie Smith (1984), Albert Pujols (2002), Adam Wainwright (2009) and Yadier Molina (2017). The MAC’s Jack Buck Sports Awards event is regarded as the premier sports banquet in St. Louis and has honored a distinguished list of Hall of Famers, Olympic champions and coaching legends. The banquet is not only enjoyed by a full house in the Club’s spectacular ballroom, as listeners throughout the Midwest and beyond tune into KMOX Radio to hear the program.
