The City Museum located in St. Louis is an incredible building that is difficult to describe if you haven’t been to experience it yourself. Contradictory to the name, it is not much like a museum at all but more like a 600,000 square foot fun-house attraction. Built in a former International Shoe Company, The City Museum is a giant children’s playground, funhouse, and architectural masterpiece allin-one. This Anheuser-Busch Brewery is the largest and oldest brewery site located in St. Louis alongside the Mississippi River. While taking the complementary tour, you get to observe the seven-step brewery process and visit the world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales located in the historical stables. The home of Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known as Mark Twain, is located on 206-208 Hill Street in Hannibal, Missouri and is the inspiration for many of his stories, including the renowned white picket fence. While wandering through some of his famous novels, children of all ages can ride a raft with Huck and Jim or explore a cave with Tom and Becky. Many of Twain’s memorabilia and personal artifacts are also displayed on site. Enjoy a Mark Twain performance or Music Under the Stars every Thursday night throughout the Summer.
This historical house in St. Louis was plagued by a series of suicides committed by family members involved in a successful brewing company back in the late 1800’s. The only remaining child of the family, Edwin Lemp, never moved back into the mansion after the series of events which allowed the Lemp Mansion to be made into a restaurant and inn by the Pointer family. The mansion now offers tours, both historical and haunted, murder mystery dinner theatre shows, and yearly Halloween parties.

One can’t talk about exciting attractions located in Missouri without bringing up the world-famous Gateway Arch. This 630-foot monument in St. Louis is made from stainless steel and is the tallest man-made monument in the Western Hemisphere. Near the top of the arch, passengers load onto a tram and ride up to the observation area. The observation area is over 65 feet long and can hold up to around 160 people at a time. Laclede’s Landing Wax Museum is an oddities sight that you won’t want to miss out on this summer. This wax museum fills three floors, a basement, and a sub-basement of a building that is hundreds of years old. This building involves winding hallways, multiple staircases, and is more like a fun house than an actual museum. The museum’s three floors are devoted to celebrities and historical figures, while the basement and sub-basement is reserved for the Chamber of Horrors. This under-ground collection is gruesome without actors coming in and trying to grab you. This 1880’s theme park located in Branson is a thrilling mixture between history and adventure. Home to the world’s most daring wooden rollercoaster, this theme park encompasses around 2 acres of family rides for all ages to enjoy. Alongside the rides and attractions, Silver Dollar City also provides culinary classes, craftsmen demonstrations, dining options, and multiple shows that change throughout the year. This breathtaking state park is in the Saint Francois area in the Ozarks and encompasses Taum Sauk Mountain, the highest point in all of Missouri. This park provides a beautiful, wooded area for hikers and a series of trails that lead through the Ozarks and up the mountain. The park also has a 12-site campground and multiple picnic areas to relax in and enjoy the scenery surrounding the area. Branson, Missouri, also known as the Live Entertainment Capital of the World, is located in Taney and Stone county nestled down in the Ozark Mountains. The community was named after Reuben Branson, the operator of the local general store back in the 1800’s. Branson is a popular vacation destination for both in state and out of state travelers. Springfield, Missouri is the third-largest city in the state of Missouri and is known as the “Birthplace of Route 66”. Springfield is home to several universities including Missouri State University, Drury University, Ozarks Technical Community College and Evangel University housing a population total of around 159, 498 people living in the city. Although Springfield may not be a big entertainment city like Branson, the city definitely has its sights and landmarks to visit as well. If you enjoy visiting specialty museums, try visiting either the Air and Military Museum of the Ozarks, the Route 66 Car Museum, the NRA National Sporting Arms Museum or the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame. Outside of the Museums are famous sights and landmarks located all around Springfield including Fantastic Caverns to explore, the Dickerson Park Zoo, Springfield National Cemetery, the World’s Largest Fork, and the Pythian Castle. St. Louis, Missouri, famously known as the “Gateway to the West”, is an independent city built along the western bank of the Mississippi River and has an estimated population of around 311, 404. Kansas City, Missouri is the largest city in Missouri and is the sixth largest city in the Midwest. Founded in 1821, Columbia, Missouri is home to the University of Missouri and is the fourth most-populous city in Missouri with an estimated population of 120,612 people. The city is well-known for its powerful journalism, politics, art, and its education. The Missouri Tigers, Missouri’s only major college athletic program, play football at Faurot Field and basketball at Mizzou Arena as members of the SEC. The cultural institutions of the city include the State Historical Society of Missouri, the Museum of Art and Archaeology, and the annual True/False Film Festival. The University of Missouri’s Museum of Art and Archaeology displays 14,000 works of art and archaeological objects in five galleries for no charge to the public. The 9th Street Summerfest closes part of Central Missouri’s streets several nights each summer to hold outdoor performances and has featured famous artists such as Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg, Weird Al Yankovic and many others. Other top sights to travel to while visiting Columbia are the Mizzou Botanical Garden, Rock Quarry Park, the Devil’s Icebox Trail, Francis Quadrangle Historical District, and the Albert Oakland Park. Jefferson City, Missouri is the fifteenth largest city in the state and is the capital of the state of Missouri. With a population of around 43,079 people, most of the city’s primary employers fall within the service and manufacturing companies. Jefferson City, named after the third president of the United States, Thomas Jefferson, currently holds the title of “America’s Most Beautiful Small Town” per Rand McNally. If you enjoy exploring historic sites or museums, then Jefferson City is a perfect city to visit. Located in the heart of the city lies the Missouri State Museum, the Jefferson Landing State Historic Site, the Lewis and Clark Monument, the Fountain of the Centaurs, and the Jefferson City Museum of Modern Art. To add a little excitement and mystery, consider visiting the Missouri State Penitentiary, the prison of Missouri that operated from 1836 to 2004. Serving as the state’s primary maximum security institution, the architecturally beautiful prison serves as a wonderful and famous piece of history. Lincoln University, located in Jefferson City, is a public, historically black university with open enrollment, certificate, associate, bachelor, and graduate programs. Columbia College, William Woods University, Metro Business College, and Merrell University also have campuses in the city with varying degree levels and options. Lake Ozark, Missouri is a small city in Camden and Miller county located near the Lake of the Ozarks. Estimating a population of around 1,586 people, Lake Ozark has multiple water related activities and plenty of fun for everyone. Between the boat tours, parasailing, paragliding, water sports, and boat rentals, there are plenty of lake related activities to enjoy at the Lake of the Ozarks. If you’re someone who would rather spend a little bit of time inside rather than outside, checking out the Shawnee Bluff Vineyards, spas, bars and clubs, or room escape games are the way to go. Multiple activities located in Lake Ozark, Missouri is based around the Lake of the Ozarks, but with a ginormous, beautiful lake like this one it provides a perfect opportunity to enjoy a day out at the lake with the family. With a population of 65,794, St. Charles, Missouri is the ninth largest city in Missouri and lies on the outskirts of St. Louis, Missouri. The city is the third oldest city in the state and played a significant role in the United States’ westward expansion. St. Charles was considered the last civilized stop by the Lewis and Clark Expedition as they traveled through the western territory back in 1804. If you’re looking for a cool insight into history, try visiting the Lewis and Clark Boat House. This exhibit includes full-scale replicas of the boats used by Lewis and Clark and it also walks you through their 1804 expedition. For some adult fun with either your friends or your spouse, there are multiple places to visit such as the Hollywood Casino St. Louis, Kokomo Joe’s Entertainment & Escape Rooms, the Escape on Main, and Cracked. Lee’s Summit, Missouri is located within the counties of Jackson and Cass county and has a population of about 91,364 people, making it the sixthlargest city in both the state of Missouri and in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. In 2006, CNN/Money and Money magazine ranked Lee’s Summit 44th on its list of the “100 Best Cities to Live in the United States” which was then improved to 27th on the 2010 list. Lee’s Summit is full of recreational activities for the whole family. Lake Jacomo and Longview Lake are both freshwater reservoirs that are perfect areas to bring the family on a hot summer day and provides full access to the public. If you would like to find out more about the history of the town and what lies within it, I recommend visiting Missouri Town 1855, the Harry S. Truman Farm Home, or the Rice-Tremonti Farm Home. The Missouri Department of Conservation operates a fish hatchery, which is used to stock trout in Lake Taneycomo through Table Rock Lake as well. The cold water let out from the dam creates the perfect trout fishing environment in Lake Taneycomo. Table Rock State Park provides public access to the lake with facilities that include a boat launch and full-service marina, a cafe, a boat rental and scuba dive shop, a campground with full RV hookups and a yurt, fishing access, swimming access, picnic areas, an amphitheater, hiking and mountain bike trails, and a dump station.
