fter a bumpy offseason resulting in the firing of General Manager John Dorsey, the Kansas City Chiefs have released big-name players Jamaal Charles, Dontari Poe, and Jeremy Maclin. The Chiefs are now looking to make another run at the NFL Playoffs and maybe even secure another AFC West title. Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt stated, “We are very excited to introduce Brett Veach as the new GM of the Kansas City Chiefs. It was a difficult decision, but after a thorough evaluation of our football operation, I felt that it was in the best long-term interest of the Chiefs to make a change. I sincerely appreciate John’s contribution to the success of the Chiefs over the last four and half years. I have a tremendous amount of respect for him. I will not say anything negative about John or the job he did as the General Manager of the Chiefs.” Head Coach Andy Reid stated, “In the off season you have the chance to go back through and look at the things you did well, and also the things you didn’t do well. Some things you kick out and some you work on to try to get better. We did that. We have added some stuff in, and will master it the best we can. We still have training camp to figure that out.

In the off season you have the chance to go back “ through and look at the things you did well, and also
the things you didn’t do well. Some things you kick out and some you work on to try to get better...
”
I am happy with improvements they have made with this camp. Do we have work to do? Absolutely! We have to get this training camp in and get the pads on. You have to do the work there. For that to take place we have to have confidence in the guys that are here and we have to keep working. We have a ways to go, to keep working.” In an effort to replace the released players, the Chiefs signed former first-round pick C.J. Spiller (RB) and third-round pick Bennie Logan (DT) from free agency. Spiller’s eight years of NFL experience equals the combined experience of all the other Chiefs running backs. Spiller played for the Buffalo Bills from 2009-14, where he was a dynamic threat as a kickoff return specialist. Injuries, however, and the acquisition of LeSean McCoy (RB) led to his departure from the team. Bennie Logan spent all his time in the NFL at Philadelphia, where he totaled a combined 120 solo tackles and 43 assisted tackles. Logan will be one of the several players tasked with

replacing Poe on the D-Line. Kansas City made some noise in the Draft as they moved up 17 spots (from Buffalo) to draft former Texas Tech standout Patrick Mahomes III (QB) at tenth overall. This move came as a shock to most. As Alex Smith is starting his final season at Kansas City, many did not expect the Chiefs to take a QB in the first round, let alone trade up. Though Kansas City has a big investment in Mahomes, the Chiefs organization has already stated that Mahomes will not be expected to start any time soon, as they look to develop him through the West Coast system that is Andy Reid’s offense. Replacing lost offensive players and building on their defense, KC also nabbed DE Tanoh Kpassagnon in the second round, RB Karemm Hunt (Toledo) in the third, WR Jehu Chesson in the fourth, LB Ukeme Eligwe in the fifth, and S Leon McQuay III in the sixth. Along with all those new faces, the Chiefs have several returning playmakers who will more-than-
likely take the fresh meat under their wings. The biggest names on that list are second year wide receiver Tyreek Hill, former first-round pick Eric Berry, and always-flamboyant tight end Travis Kelce. Current safety and defensive captain Eric Berry has the most experience of any player in the secondary. Eric Berry became a household name in 2014 when he sidelined his prolific career after a diagnosis of Hodgkins Lymphoma (a form of cancer that affects the immune system). Since his return in 2015, Berry has achieved 138 tackles, which is second on the team behind veteran linebacker Derrick Johnson. Matching Berry’s defense experience, veteran tight end Travis Kelce has made his voice heard around the league, creating a name for himself through controversy. Kelce has done what many athletes have not dared to do, occasionally yelling at referees, and has even thrown a “flag” at an official. Okay, maybe it was a towel, but the symbolism
is the same. Klece has petitioned for the NFL to hold officials as accountable as they hold their players. Even though Kelce is in the middle of controversy off the field, his on-the-field accomplishments are just as noteworthy. Kelce was one of only two TEs to lead their teams in receiving yards. Kelce racked up an astonishing 1,125 yards in the 2016 regular season. Kelce enters his fifth season having hit a new career high in yards in the previous season. It will be interesting to see if he can keep up that streak going into 2017. Kelce may lead the Chiefs in receiving yards, but no one is more exciting to watch than rookie WR Tyreek Hill. Hill last season made a name for himself as one of the most explosive players in the NFL, as he scored a TD in every offensive and special teams column. In his rookie campaign, Hill also showed his ambition to be fastest player in the NFL. He will more than likely have the highest speed
rating in Madden 18. Yes, I know Madden is a game, but it is a game that takes real-world stats and performances and creates a rather realistic rating system. So it is going to be crazy to see Hill as the fastest player in both the game and in the NFL. However, all of that was last season, and this is a new one. The preseason will give us and the coaches a first-hand look at what these latest additions can do, and will also give us the opportunity to see whether or not the “old guys” still have it. Once Week One comes around, it will be “all hands on deck,” as Kansas City will travel to Foxborough, where they will play the defending World Champion New England Patriots. The Chiefs will have a tough road ahead following New England, as their 2017 opponents netted a 147108-1 record in 2016, and 11 of the 16 had winning records. The most-grueling part of said season for the Chiefs will undoubtedly be the first half.
Before KC has their bye week in week 10, they will have to play powerhouses New England, Pittsburgh, Oakland, and Dallas, all teams who made the playoffs with 10+ wins. Along with those four, KC will have to travel to Houston to play the on-the-rise Texas team that also made the playoffs. Houston is probably one of the most-talented and youngest teams in the NFL, but the lack of QB has held them back. Texans fans and the organization hope that this tale comes to an end with rookie QB Deshaun Watson, who has turned heads since the Texans drafted him. With nearly every team reloading, this year it is going to be a challenge for Kansas City to duplicate, let alone build, on their successful 2016 campaign. | However, if the Chiefs can survive or even thrive in the first nine games, there is no doubt they can make a run at the everelusive Lombardi Trophy.

Cheerleaders
This year, around 200 candidates from 11 different states auditioned for their chance at being a Chiefs Cheerleader. Throughout the audition process, candidates are tested on their dance skills, fitness, football knowledge and public speaking. Preliminary round of rookie candidates was narrowed down to 75 semi-finalists by a group of judges to compete with veteran candidates during semi-finals. Semi-finalists were taught choreographed routines that were performed in the evening, along with solo performances, in front of a group of judges and candidates’ family and friends. Following the performance, the judges made one more round of cuts before heading to the finals. Finals consisted of more dance skills, fitness challenges, public speaking and the chance to try on the official Chiefs Cheerleader uniform. The finals concluded with a group performance and one last routine in front of the judges.

by Jazmin Decker uring this year’s Memorial Day Weekend, a new smartphone app that provides boat ride services was launched and set sail for success as it reaches its third month of services. Anchor Charter Services, a pier-to-pier boat charter system that provides water transportation from one location on the lake to the next, has had an incredibly steady, healthy growth in the number of customers and drivers and it continues to grow exponentially. As the company continues towards the optimal level of customer to driver ratio, they have been able to cut down on pickup times and ultimately make it more affordable for everyone who experiences the service.
D
Every day is a new obstacle that provides challenges that the company has faced and overcome, but the most challenging obstacle that has occurred over the past few months has been facing the illegal services being provided around the lake. “Battling the cash services has been a difficult job and it has been able to show us some of the illegal services going on in and around the lake. After a discussion with the U.S Coast Guard, we are proud to announce that by 2018 all drivers will have a captain’s license and will help provide more than just the pier-to-pier service, but ultimately provide an overall experience for the customers.” Providing all the boat operators with a captain’s license demonstrates an overall safety benefit because the service will provide a captain with experience and a sober option for customers so they do not drink and drive on the water. Zach Hatraf, creator and owner of Anchor Charter Services, recently announced that they have a lot of upgrades and plans for the company’s growth in 2018. Along with providing a captained driver for every experience, Anchor Charter also plans on pursuing day long charters for as long as the customer would like. For example, if a 2, 4, 6, 8, or 10-hour service is needed, Anchor Charter plans on
providing the ultimate ride for those in need! Hatraf also plans on providing customizable experiences in 2018 as well. If a customer is in need of a cruise for their family with on deck music and an exciting tour around the Florida Keys, then Anchor Charter will find a driver for them who would be able to provide them with that specific service! No matter the circumstance, Anchor Charter plans on being able to find drivers who are willing to provide whatever service is needed for that customer. The company recently entered into series A and are searching for investors and capitalists to expand the platform and expand the charter services to 1520 new markets all over the country as well as over the border. By the beginning of 2018, Zach Hatraf and the rest of the staff at Anchor Charter services plans on being able to provide a safe and enjoyable charter service from one pier to the next all over the United States and even beyond its borders. With the exponential growth of the company just over these past few months, Anchor Charter services is expanding at a great pace and is bound to continue making the lakes a safer place one day at a time.

In the Spotlight This month’s student spotlight goes to the University of Missouri’s newest addition to the softball team, Kathleen “Eli” Daniel. Eli Daniel formerly played softball for Gainesville, Georgia’s Brenau University starting off her Freshman year by pitching for the Golden Tigers. Eli was offered a spot on the Varsity team and thrived throughout the year as she pitched an incredible season. Leading her team to victory, Eli and the Golden Tigers journeyed on to Nationals. On June 2nd of 2017, Eli was named National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Pitcher of the Year. In 1988, the NAIA national record for strikeouts was set at a total of 540, until Eli broke that record with an unbelievable total of 579 strikeouts throughout the entire softball season. Eli carried a 43-4 individual record assisting the Golden Tigers in a second-place victory at Nationals. Eli Daniel has been offered a spot to play at the University of Missouri this upcoming season and is excited to continue her career playing for the NCAA. Although many people are upset to see Eli leave Brenau, they’re very excited to see what this journey has in store for her and can’t wait to follow her in the seasons to come!

We sell Areve, Ryu, Élan, Surrealist, Comfy Usa, Dear John, Lysee, & Sorrelli Jewelry just to name a few of our lines. When did you become interested in fashion?
I have been interested in fashion my entire life! I played dress up as a child and have never stopped! What makes Shabby Chic Boutique stand out?
What makes us stand out is the way our merchandise is displayed. We have outfits displayed all over the store, not one outfit is complete without a piece of jewelry to accessorize it! Our customers usually shop from our displays and our staff are expert at putting together outfits and helping customers one on one! Who would be your fashion role model/Icon?

What’s your career or educational background in the fashion industry?
What inspires you to keep up with the current fashion trends?
I went to college and studied Fashion Merchandising and was lucky enough to work as a Buyer, manager & merchandiser for a very successful boutique owner in the Chicagoland area. I worked at this company for 15 years and learned everything about the retail business.
I’m inspired everyday by just the sheer excitement and love I have for fashion! I’m constantly searching social media and designing in my head. I can spend hours combing through magazines & scrolling through social media! I’m a Pinterest and Instagram junkie!
What are some major setbacks that you’ve had in this particular business, that you had to overcome?
From an aspiring boutique owner’s perspective, what are some challenges you’ve had along the way?
I opened my boutique in 2011 with very little experience in social media or computers programs, so I had to teach myself with the help of my son & younger sister. It was a challenge, but now I’ve really got the hang of advertising & promoting my business on Facebook & just recently added an Instagram account.
It’s always a challenge to stay unique & to stay true to your look! It’s also challenging to find time for yourself, if you want to be successful, you must oversee every detail, you oversee everything!! My biggest challenge, the business side, I would much rather just dress up & be on the floor helping customers & playing with displays!
How long have you been a business owner?
What are your beauty secrets?
I’ve had my shop for 6 years.
My beauty secret is a good skincare routine & a good night’s rest! I also treat myself to regular manicures & pedicures since I’m on my feet 24/7.
the women I work with, the customers, and the beautiful clothing & accessories! Every day is fun, I’m right at home in my girly girl world! What’s your favorite item in your wardrobe?
My favorite item in my wardrobe is my frilly little slip dress by Ryu & my cowboy boots!
What motivates you to come here every day to continue to do what you’re doing?
I’m motivated everyday by my passion for this business, I love
What are you wearing today?
Today I’m wearing a pretty little tunic & Capri leggings with a designer ball cap since I’m home placing orders and getting my to do list taken care of.

ucked into the countryside of Jamesport, Missouri, a predominantly Amish community, is Landes Farms. Aaron, Micah and their seven yearold son Blaine operate Landes Farms where they grow and produce: soybeans, corn, cover crop, hay, cattle and 4-H show animals for Blaine. I pulled into the drive and I immediately fell in love with: the white two-story farmhouse, the neatly manicured yard, signage by the road, cute little barns, animal pins, white painted gates, grain bins and well-organized machine shed. A true showplace! Micah finished helping her husband clean off the planter and then invited me onto her back porch to visit over some sweet tea.
the Executive Director of Main Street Chillicothe in Chillicothe, Missouri. Landes Farms has grown since the early days of the husband and wife team, so Landes decided to take her hardworking skills and passion for serving her community and apply them to a career off of the farm as well. “I decided to go to work when Blaine was about four. I like what I do on the farm and I wanted to carry that
where I can. And also my dog helps me a lot. I couldn’t do it without her!”
Landes began her career in farming as a full-time farmhand when she and her husband were just starting out over eleven years ago. “Everyday is something different, but I am responsible for: feeding, checking animals, delivering parts and equipment, vaccinations, drive the dump truck, auger wagon, fix fence, hay crew, put contracts together, taxes, income reports…and probably a little bit of everything in between. I also had a USDA commercial licensed dog kennel and sold dogs all over the nation.”
over into a career that let me help others and my community.”
until 11:00pm and then I will go back out and run the auger wagon for Aaron. I love being a part of this time of year. It’s kind of slow [for farm life] but it’s exciting because everything is about to pick back up again with Harvest and Fall calving. It’s where you really get to see where your hard work pays off.”
Landes now makes a forty-five minute drive into town where she is
Adding a full-time town job does not allow Landes to remove any farm chores from her daily schedule. “Since taking my job in town, Aaron has had to hire two guys but I still take care of all of my chores.” When asked how she juggled it all, “I enjoy it!” She said with a positive smile. “The best part about farm life is really feeling like you’ve done something meaningful and that is also how I feel at my executive job. When I get home from work, I get started on my chores and then when I am done, I start helping
Fall Harvest Planning “Right now we are really starting to focus on Harvest. There’s a lot of planning and preparation that goes into it so that it makes it easier on everyone. Making sure all of the trucks and equipment are ready to go, preparing food – sometimes we don’t eat
Why does Landes love being a Missouri Farm Wife? “I really can’t imagine life any other way. Raising a child on the farm has to be the best thing we’ve ever done. Everything is so new and exciting to him that it really makes even the littlest things so special. Hands on, Blaine
gets to experience the circle of life everyday and he really is learning the importance of hard work and being resourceful. Sure, there are downfalls like anytime you lose a baby calf or if the rain doesn’t come, it’s hard on your operation but everything else is worth it.” What does the future hold for Landes Farms? “In thirty years will you
still be a Missouri Farm Wife?” I asked Landes. “Oh definitely. Blaine will be the fourth generation farmer, so as a family, we are building this up so that we can give him the opportunity to transition over, if he chooses. I could never fully quit the farm life. I always want to have a career that allows me to serve my farm and my community.” I was happy to help Landes finish her evening chores and get a crash course on driving a | Peterbilt semi. Real American Lager We know that looks aren’t everything, but they sure do help sometimes. That’s why we decided to make some changes to the packaging of Kräftig Light and Kräftig Lager.

Missouri Magazine | August 2017
The classic flavor of Kräftig needed a classic look to match. With its vintage-inspired design elements, our new packaging incorporates an authentic American aesthetic. We abandoned the dark green in favor of an overall lighter color scheme, alluding to the classically light yet flavorful character of our beers. Kräftig Lager and Kräftig Light are two distinct beers and we wanted our packaging designs to reflect that. Whereas our iconic green makes an appearance in the
Lager’s packaging, a touch of gold appears alongside the new silver and white coloring of Kräftig Light. This is a celebration of our industry accolades
throughout the years and needless to say, we think gold looks good on us. The new packaging also features our
founder’s heritage story to demonstrate the origins of our unwavering commitment to quality. With our new look, we hope to remind people why they fell in love with beer in the first place. We haven’t changed our recipe. We haven’t added or taken out anything. It’s that same classic flavor you remember, proving once and for all that good beer doesn’t need to be complicated. It’s time to get back to beer and drink Kräftig. It’s time to drink real American lager.

I was born in Sheridan, Colorado and moved to Jefferson City, Missouri in 2003. I have been married to my husband Terrance for 14 years and we have 3 children. Crysta 13, Carter 9 and Cooper 4. I have always loved taking photos of my family and honestly never dreamed of being a professional photographer. I have been doing photography as a business for 3 years and will be opening my first studio later this month. I love capturing candid and natural interactions between my clients. My goal with every client is to make them feel comfortable and help them enjoy the session by getting to know them before the session and during. My passion is Maternity, Newborn and Family and hope to one day specialize in those areas. I genuinely love photography and the memories it captures and I hope that I give every person who hires me memories to cherish forever. - Tina Newton

y l l e K o B & Bo and Kelly Hoelscher of Jefferson City, Missouri. Kelly originally from California, Missouri and Bo from Russellville, Missouri. Were introduced by a mutual friend (Kenny Bishop) and went on a blind date but it wasn’t the right time in the couple’s lives. They would run into each other from time to time at group events since they shared several mutual friends. Several years later Kelly needed a new cell phone and ran into Bo at his work, he was able to get Kelly a new phone and her number. Bo called Kelly for a redo first date! Kelly shared a special memory us, “From the first day, I met Bo he had a love for dogs. I was a cat lady. For his birthday, I surprised him with a visit to a breeder who had puppies for sale. We drove 6 hours to go meet these puppies and pick out our fur baby. Two weeks later when Daisy was old enough and ready for her new home we made that long drive again. On our drive home with our new family of 3 we encountered the worst ice storm central Missouri has seen in years. (we didn’t know the storm was coming and failed to check the weather). We saw all the wrecked cars along the highway on our way home, Bo stayed clam (I was driving and freaking out) That day was a scary day and I was reassured he would always be my calm and we could get through anything as long as we stuck together while supporting each other.” 48

One Sunday at Bo’s family farm while picking some pecans from his late grandmother’s pecan tree, the couple was beginning to leave and Bo proposed by an old rustic barn that Kelly has always loved, it was Bo’s style. Little did Kelly know it was the day she would get engaged. On May 20th, 2017, the happy couple tied the knot at The Wildflower in Eugene, Missouri. The Wildflower offered a rustic barn like you’ve never seen before sitting in the beauty and peacefulness of Eugene, Missouri. The Wildflower offered the couple a rustic chic style venue. Kelly’s favorite part of their wedding day? She said, “The first look was so very special but when the ceremony was over; we were able to relax and celebrate our special day with each other and the ones we love most.” The couple enjoyed a beautiful honeymoon at Azul Fives, in Playa Del Carmen Mexico. Made by hand in the heartland. by Jazmin Decker
Printing photos to capture the memories of family outings, memorable vacations, or lifelong friendships has been the ultimate way to acquire long lasting memories ever since the seventeenth century. Mpix, a premium photo lab located in Pittsburg, Kansas, is known for creating photographic stationary and goods printed with top-of-the-line paper and exceptional color. This past week I had the opportunity to test out the printing company for myself and I must admit, I was quite impressed! When exploring the website, the very first step to sharing photographs and creating photo goods is to sign up and create a free account. After creating the account, the website opens to various choices of photo gifts, photo books, wall art, and prints to choose from and customize to best suit whatever the occasion may be. Mpix provides a variety of options to choose from, whether that be trading cards, magazine covers, calendars, mounted frames, photo albums, keychains, memory boxes, etc.! To get started with ordering your prints, you must first upload whatever photos you would like to possibly use and put them into an album on the website. Once you add photos from your desktop or from a source of social media, make sure to click upload and all your selected photos will be located
in the album on the website for the rest of the time. I ultimately uploaded as many pictures as I wanted to in order to dabble and experiment with the different photo gifts that I later decided to order. Because I’m moving into an apartment soon and need a little assistance with decorating, I personally chose to order a large dry erase calendar to help me stay organized and on track while away at college as well as a few photo magnets to add a little personality to the fridge in the new apartment. Navigating the website was incredibly easy to use and everything was so organized that I could find exactly what I wanted to create in such a short amount of time. The admirable quality about Mpix is that they make sure to include all the information about the product that is needed to make the best and most detailed decision as possible. When I went to order the dry erase board, for example, the company made sure to include which size I wanted to choose from, the material the board was made from, what the entire gift includes, which type of style I wanted the board to be| in, and finally the processing time to create the entire gift. With all this information included, I knew exactly what product I was bound to receive and about how long it would take to receive it all.

Along with the multiple photo gifts that I chose to purchase for myself and for others, I thought it would be a great idea to create a framed print for the apartment to remember the incredible family and friends that I have in my life. Framing prints online is a lot more difficult than in stores because a variety of choices must be made during the creation of the product. With that being said, it was very easy to navigate the framed photo prints tab and create the gift that I will cherish for a lifetime. Mpix allows you to choose from three professional quality photographic papers with one of the sixteen frame finishes. Starting at 3.5x5 going all the way up to a 20x30 print, Mpix allows you to create a high quality framed print with whatever color or finish you would like your frame to be in all for a very reasonable and affordable price. The problem multiple customers and I have when printing out photographs in this large of a size is that the final print is either pixilated or has a green tint to it. The quality of the prints at Mpix stays true to the photo you initially upload on the website and arrive looking just as beautiful as they did when they were taken. Besides the website being extremely easy to navigate, the number one quality that sets Mpix above the rest is their exceptionally fast processing

and shipping times. Many orders ship in 24 hours after the order has been uploaded, while strictly print orders can be shipped out all in the same day! When shipping your orders out, you can choose between Economy (10+ days shipping), Standard (2-5 days shipping), or Expedited (1 business day shipping). The delivery date of my prints and gifts was spot on and packaged perfectly to where the items weren’t damaged or lost in the process of traveling to my house. The items that I had ordered by Mpix turned out in perfect condition and were in even better quality than I had hoped or expected. As a photographer, I tend to take multiple pictures to capture every memory that I possibly can. With the help of Mpix, I am now able to have material prints that I can cherish for a lifetime. Mpix provided exceptional service and high-quality prints that will allow me to preserve my past for many years to come. If I have the opportunity to endorse this company again in the near future, I definitely will take advantage of their wonderful products and create many more memorable items. Mpix is the go-to source for any prints if you’re looking for commendable service and expeditious shipping time. Like Mpix says, “preserve your past. Trust us, you’ll be glad you did”.

Ford celebrates 100 years of leadership, innovation, capability and durability for its iconic trucks – from the Ford TT that kicked off this rich history on this day in 1917 to the new Ford F-Series lineup.
100 years of
FROM 1917 MODEL TT to 2017 F-150 RAPT
Henry Ford’s vision to create a vehicle with a cab and work-duty frame capable of accommodating cargo beds and third-party upfit equipment proudly endures a century later in the Built Ford Tough F-Series lineup – from F-150 to F-750 Super Duty. F-Series reigns as America’s best-selling truck for 40 straight years and best-selling vehicle for 35 straight years, thanks to Ford listening to and understanding the needs of truck owners, developing customercentric product innovations, and delivering purpose-built capabilities, features and configurations; Ford has sold more than 26 million F-Series trucks in the United States since 1977.

A century later, Ford trucks are among the most iconic vehicles in the world. F-Series is America’s best-selling truck for 40 consecutive years and bestselling vehicle for 35 straight years. In Canada, Ford F-Series has enjoyed 51 consecutive years as best-selling pickup and now marks seven straight years as best-selling vehicle. Throughout this rich history, Ford continuously has worked to improve its trucks by listening to truck owners and developing new innovations that improve their ability to get the job done. These innovations give today’s Ford truck owners greater towing and hauling capability, advanced engines for improved efficiency, and driver-assist technologies that make it easier and more convenient to operate. Birth of a legend Nine years after the first Model T saw Ford customers asking for a vehicle that could haul heavier loads and provide greater utility for work and deliveries. On July 27, 1917, Ford responded with the Model TT, which retained the Model T cab and engine. The Model TT came with a heavierduty frame capable of carrying one ton of payload. The factory price was $600; 209 were sold that year.
Similar to the Fordson tractor introduced in 1917, Henry Ford envisioned a chassis that could accommodate third-party beds, cargo areas and other add-ons to deliver the increased functionality needed to get work done. It was a formula for success. By 1928, Ford had sold 1.3 million Model TTs before replacing the truck with the more capable Model AA with a 1.5-ton chassis. Henry Ford marketed his early trucks heavily in rural areas, according to Bob Kreipke, Ford historian. “Model AA trucks in particular had a certain class to them,” he said. “Customers could use them on the farm, yet still take them to church on Sunday.” Like the Model TT, the Model AA was available exclusively as a chassis cab offered in two lengths, with new powertrain and axle options for greater capacity. To stay ahead in what had become a hotly competitive business, Ford replaced the Model AA with the even more capable Model BB in 1933. Many were outfitted as mail and freight vehicles, ambulances and stake trucks. Two years later, Ford introduced the 1935 Model 50 pickup, powered exclusively by its famous Ford Flathead V8 engine. By 1941, Ford had sold more than 4 million trucks. Changing over to war production resulted in the loss of consumer sales but a gain in experience building heavy-duty military truck chassis and four-wheel-drive personnel
carriers. A year after consumer production resumed in 1947, Ford leveraged that knowledge to provide even more innovations for its customers. “After the war, a lot of rural Americans moved to urban and suburban centers looking for work, and many took their Ford pickups with them,” said Kreipke. “Ford saw this as an opportunity, and began work on the next generation of trucks for 1948, what came to be known as F-Series Bonus Built trucks.” This first-generation F-Series covered Classes 2 through 7 capacities – from the half-ton F-1 to the much larger F-8 cabover truck. With the arrival of the second-generation F-Series for 1953, Ford increased engine power and capacity, and rebranded the series. The F-1 became the F-100, while F-2 and F-3 trucks were integrated into the new F-250 line. F-4 became F-350. Class 8 trucks were spun off into a new C-Series commercial truck unit that produced iconic C-, H-, L-, N-, T- and W-Series Ford trucks. Throughout this period, Ford trucks started looking less utilitarian, sporting two-tone paint, automatic transmissions, and improved heater and radio offerings. New standard features debuted with the 1953 F-100, including armrests, dome lights and sun visors. Lower and with a wider cab, the new truck featured integrated front fenders and a more aerodynamic design.
Then, in 1957, Ford tested out a car-based truck – the Falcon Ranchero. Marketed as “More Than a Car! More Than a Truck!,” this light-duty truck brought carlike amenities to consumers. Creating the Built Ford Tough brand In 1961 – 44 years after the Model TT – Ford introduced its fourth-generation F-Series. The company’s revolutionary twin I-beam front suspension debuted in 1965. An upscale Ranger package appeared in 1967. Ads emphasized improved comfort, value and durability, as Ford trucks now offered power steering and brakes, and a lower chassis profile. A larger SuperCab option introduced in 1974 featured more comfortable seating to attract dual-purpose work and family buyers. With the arrival of the sixthgeneration F-Series in 1975, Ford dropped the popular F-100, replacing it with a highercapacity F-150 pickup to combat the C/K trucks from General Motors. By 1977, F-Series pulled ahead in the sales race, and 26 million trucks later, Ford hasn’t looked back. That same year, a copywriter for a Ford truck magazine is said to have written three simple words that would come to define the brand – Built Ford Tough. It is more than a slogan – it’s the F-Series brand promise to its owners and the mantra for Ford’s entire truck team.

Trucks were fast becoming universal family vehicles, in addition to being work trucks, according to Kreipke. Instead of renting a truck for a big job or for towing, people now had ones they could use for work during the week, then hitch a trailer to and haul the family in for weekend getaways. Ford trucks were adapting to the changing, more active American lifestyle. Premium edition trucks, such as the Lariat package introduced in 1978, offered more comfort features including air conditioning, leather trim, and power windows and locks. In 1982, Ford charted a different course with an all-new compact truck – Ranger. Versatile and efficient, Ranger quickly built a reputation for being tough and capable, leading it to thrive in diverse markets around the world. Now, after a seven-year hiatus, Ford is reintroducing an all-new Ranger in North America in 2019. Expanding the Built Ford Tough Lineup Ford reset the benchmark again in 1998 with the introduction of F-Series Super Duty. Engineered for fleet and heavy-duty work use, Super Duty – from the F-250 all the way up to the F-750 – more clearly defined Ford trucks for a growing base of commercial applications. With an expanding lineup of F-Series trucks, the company added high-end trim and technology packages to meet customers’ diverse needs. The addition of King Ranch, Platinum and Limited model trucks provided more luxury content along with improved functionality and capability. Features such as premium leather-trimmed seating, SYNC® with navigation, sunroofs and heated seats, along with gross vehicle weight and tow ratings in the 15,000-pound range combined

to deliver on the Built Ford Tough brand promise. While Ford worked to continuously increase truck capabilities, the company made bold investments in efficiency, too. Powerful, yet efficient EcoBoost® V6 engine technology debuted for 2011, providing customers with better fuel economy and power. This was followed by the industry’s first high-strength, military-grade, aluminum-alloy body for the 2015 F-150, providing customers the “and” solution of greater efficiency and more capability. Two years later, 2017 Super Duty trucks also got lighter-weight high-strength, military-grade, aluminum-alloy bodies – a savings Ford reinvested in providing best-in-class towing and hauling capability. Innovation on the performance front continued, too, with Ford leading the way in the specialty truck segment. Early examples include HarleyDavidson F-150 and F-150 SVT Lightning. Then came Raptor – the first off-road trophy truck from a major manufacturer. Inspired by desert racing and designed specifically to meet the needs of off-road truck enthusiasts, the purpose-built F-150 Raptor set the bar high for off-road performance. Today’s second-generation 2017 F-150 Raptor features a 450-horsepower EcoBoost V6, 10-speed transmission, and segment-exclusive Terrain Management System™ with electronic-controlled transfer case and differentials. Ford is credited with putting the world on wheels, and Ford trucks helped build America. “Ford trucks carried the loads, the people and the products necessary to get the job done,” Kreipke said.

We can’t forget to add a few drinks, morning kick off what better drink to have is Bloody Mary’s and for all our University of Missouri football fans serve our Spiced Root beer. Have a blast this football season!

chase EAGER TO
One last series title for Carl Renezeder.
(Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series photo) The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series makes it debut at Lucas Oil Speedway with the GEICO Off Road Shootout Presented by General Tire, July 21-23. Carl Renezeder has been one of the stars of off road racing over the last two decades.

Missouri Magazine | August 2017
“I’ve been in this sport for a long time and I just think I’ve kind of run my course in short-course racing,”
“My understanding is this is going to be a little different than other tracks we see,” Renezeder said. “It’s longer than what we’re used to and has some different elements. It’ll be interesting.”
After racing trucks at high speeds, banging doors with opponents and soaring through the air for 19 years, Carl Renezeder said his decision to retire from the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series at season’s end is simple.
But the short-course style of off road appealed to him and he’s been one of the sports stars ever since, driving in both the Pro 4 and Pro 2 divisions. He became the first driver to win championships in both the two-wheel and fourwheel divisions in the same season when he captured the 2009 Unlimited 2 and Unlimited 4 divisions in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series.
“I’ve been in this sport for a long time and I just think I’ve kind of run my course in short-course racing,” Renezeder said. “I’m ready to try some different things.” But before the nine-time national champion with 122 short-course victories calls it quits, Renezeder is eager to chase one more series title - and fly around the new off road track at Lucas Oil Speedway this weekend. The 53-year-old southern California native is one of the star attractions as the series makes a rare appearance in this part of the country. But for those with long memories, it’s not Renezeder’s first time to race in south-central Missouri. Back in 2007, the Lucas Oil World Series of Off Road Racing came to the oval track. But now it’s a whole new ballgame, with a devoted, 1.3-mile course built with turns, jumps and banking that promises to challenge the sport’s best drivers.
Renezeder has been thrilling fans for two decades in the unique form of racing that is most-often associated with the deserts of the southwestern United States. In fact, he got his start in desert racing, doing Baja 1000 and 500 events more than 20 years ago.
This season he has one victory and is third in Pro 4 points, behind Kyle LeDuc and Rob MacCachren. “It’s the door-to-door, side-by-side type of racing that we get to do that appeals to me,” Renezeder said. “We get to fly through the air and the trucks have a lot of horsepower. It’s just a lot of fun.” He said the fans seeing the sport in person for the first time will literally feel the power. “It’s similar to drag racing, though not quite to that extent, but you’re going to hear 12| trucks get on the gas at the start of the race and ... you feel it through your whole body,” Renezeder said. “Seeing the trucks jumping through the air, on some tracks as far as 200 feet, that’s something people aren’t used to seeing.”
August 2017 | Missouri Magazine |

With only three events remaining on the 2017 schedule after this weekend, Renezeder’s days of going fast and flying high are limited. But he said it’s time and is content with his decision. “I have bucket-list items that I need to check off,” Renezeder said of what’s next. “I want to get back to doing triathlons again and training on my bicycle and swimming. Just doing some things that I haven’t been able to do as much as I would have liked these last few years.” For complete Lucas Oil Speedway event information, archived stories, ticket info and the 2017 racing schedule, visit LucasOilSpeedway.com.

Lucas Oil Speedway is located at Highways 83 and 54 in Wheatland, Missouri. A campground with shower and bathroom facilities is also available. With it's entrance located just outside the pit gate this sprawling scenic camping facility will continue to enhance the racing experience at the Diamond of Dirt Tracks.
