The overall poster has mist –like appearance created by slight opacity adjustments in the background and a granulated effect conveys a spiritual atmosphere, instantly suggesting this is a supernatural/mystery horror film. The entirety of the poster is quite blank, revealing barely any key factors of the film although I think this adds to the mystery aspect, making the viewer question what will occur throughout the course of the film. The poster is mainly consisting white/grey tones which is unconventional for most horror posters, however I don’t think it needs darkness as the blank canvas appearance and spoiled typography portray enough horror to engage and communicate that this advertising a horror film
This sign is the is the only area of the poster with a strong colour (green) however it is still quite dim like the rest of the posters factors making it to be first seen but not too much to dominate the poster. It is placed in area where people would first look due to the way we are taught to read from left to right, forcing the viewer to instantly know what film it is advertising
The tag line addresses and involves the reader by using the word “you”, the type is in white making it appear to slightly merge into the murky background like a whisper as it is subtly seen like a whisper is subtly heard
The font style of ‘Silent Hill’ appears to be slightly disturbed with the use of blurred/smudge edges and the altered letter sizes depict that this may be handwritten/drawn which could suggest a child has wrote this. This creates contrasts with the two binary oppositions, a child’s innocence and evil.
