The uninvited

This is the poster for the English film, The Uninvited (2009). The genre of it is a horror, drama and mystery and these themes are shown through the construction, composition of the elements in the image

The typography is in a font that appears to be selfwritten onto the window, which implies the idea of the supernatural natural to be somewhat interacting with the real world. It also reflects the childlike appearance and the innocence factor within the film. The typography is juxtaposing the natural judgement and expectations of the roles and powers children have and have over other people. The font has a slight flow and drooping effect which is emphases the spiritual horror aspect of the film. The tag line “fear moves in” implies that in some point in the film the antagonist will arrive, if it is welcomed or not. It also implies that it can happen to the viewer that it can move in to their house

The main image seems to appear to be the antagonist featured in the film. One reason I get this idea is because the face is hidden, which is reflecting the mystery horror genre in the film as we are unaware of who this girl is and what role she plays. The hidden face also creates the aspect of the unknown, reflecting to the spiritual and horror genre of the film

The colour scheme is consistent of muted tones, ranging from black to white. White connotes safety, purity, and cleanliness. As opposed to black, white usually has a positive connotation. In contrast with black which is a mysterious colour associated with fear and the unknown, together these obscure the two natural opposite colours and their meanings to create new meanings such as making good bad (like making a child appear evil). It is highly reflective of the spiritual horror theme and emphasises the innocence of a ‘child’ we ‘think’ they have
