“If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there’d be a shortage of fishing poles.” ~ Doug Larson Whether you want to fly fish, hire a charter, toss a line from a dock or bring your own fishing boat and spend the day on the lake, the Petoskey Area is a fisherman’s dream. Walloon Lake yields bass and walleye. Petoskey’s Bear River plays host to brown trout, salmon and steelhead. Head to Lake Charlevoix in Boyne City for walleye, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, bluegills and rock bass. In Alanson, you can reel in largemouth bass, yellow perch, northern pike, walleye and bluegill. And those who hit Little Traverse Bay will likely pull in trout, salmon, brown trout and steelhead. There are also a numerous lesser-known lakes and streams where you can try your luck. Check out the DNR’s Weekly Fishing Report at 855.777.0908. The Fishing Report and DNR licensing information is also available online. 45
