CURTAIN CALL Excitement Grows for the New Performing Arts Center in Greater Northern Michigan

Back in 1999, Emmet and Charlevoix Counties came together for a Community Cultural Plan that laid out strategies for enhancing culture, education and arts in greater northern Michigan and positioning the two county area as a “culture destination”. Fast forward to July 12, 2014 when an exciting announcement was made at the 20th anniversary celebration of Bay Harbor. A $25 million dollar performing arts venue will be constructed in Bay Harbor in 2015. “In one year we will break ground”, said Bay Harbor Company Chairman David V. Johnson. “It will open in 2017.” This year-round facility will provide a venue for educational and cultural arts events and be complementary to the existing arts facilities in the area. The Performing Arts Center will have an expansive stage to bring live performances by global top artists, theatre productions, keynote speakers, comedy shows, classical and jazz performers and family entertainment. This will impact the cultural and educational life of greater northern Michigan - not only bringing resorters in the summer, but also performances for year-round residents. The venue includes opportunities for pre- and post-performance dining, cocktails and socializing including a rooftop patio with spectacular views of Lake Michigan. The performers will have state-of-the-art audiovisual systems capable of meeting the technical requirements of today’s artists. The excitement is continuing to grow as the months draw closer to breaking ground on this new facility.
