WCU’s Scheduling System WILLIAM CAREY UTILIZES A UNIQUE ACADEMIC SCHEDULING SYSTEM CALLED THE TRIMESTER SYSTEM. STUDENTS DIVIDE THEIR COURSE LOADS INTO 3 TRIMESTERS BETWEEN AUGUST AND MAY. EACH TRIMESTER IS 10 WEEKS LONG. THE MINIMUM NUMBER OF CLASSES A FULLTIME STUDENT MUST TAKE IS DECREASED AND THE CLASS MEETING TIME IS INCREASED TO ACCOMMODATE THE CONCENTRATED SCHEDULE.

Students May Take Up to 36 Credit Hours A Year Full-time student status 9-12 credit hours (3-4 classes)

Full-time student status 9-12 credit hours (3-4 classes)

Full-time student status 9-12 credit hours (3-4 classes)

Depending on the degree* program, if a student takes 12 credit hours per trimester (excluding summers), he or she could finish a bachelor’s degree in 3.5 years! *A BACHELOR’S DEGREE AVERAGES 128 TOTAL CREDIT HOURS. EACH COLLEGE COURSE IS ASSIGNED A CREDIT HOUR TOTAL BASED ON THE LENGTH OF CLASS INSTRUCTION PER MEETING AND THE LENGTH OF TIME THE COURSE IS OFFERED. ONE COLLEGE CLASS IS GENERALLY 3 CREDIT HOURS.

WILL THE TRIMESTER SYSTEM STILL HAVE HOLIDAYS? Yes! You will have federally observed holidays and the following academic breaks: • Breaks between trimesters (3 days) • Christmas Break (3 weeks) • Thanksgiving Break (1 week) • Spring Break (1 week)

WHAT ARE SOME BENEFITS OF THE TRIMESTER SYSTEM? • Fewer classes to focus on at a time • Finish a double major or double minor faster • 18 Month Nursing program (enter your career field 6 months sooner!) • 3+1 Bachelor of Science in Business and Master of Business Administration (Bachelor’s AND master’s degree in 4 years!)

The Carey Scholars program was my initial draw to Carey and solidified this being the school I attended. During my time in the Scholars program I have learned a lot and made many lifelong friends. The group is very close-knit, and the professors involved with the program are all very helpful and want to see us succeed.

ALEX GREEN

Class of 2020

My time here at William Carey as a PTK scholar has been the best time of my life. The teachers are amazing, and you get the hands-on help that you need. I am a Criminal Justice major, and the opportunities to advance within the program are nonstop. There are so many new ways to grow at Carey and keep God at the center of it. Transferring to WCU was the best decision I have made in furthering my education. The PTK program at William Carey not only helps further your education, but also allows you to meet people from all over the world.
