With over 20 years of experience, Sylva Yepremain creates highly distinctive hand-crafted fine jewelry. Sylva & Cie is based in an Old World manufacturing house in the heart of the Downtown Los Angeles jewelry district. Sylva Yepremain, a passionate collector of antique jewelry, alludes to the vintage looks from the Art Deco period as a sizeable source of inspiration for her modern-day collections. Each piece Sylva creates combines nature and the environment with molten metals and

colorful jewels, respecting their organic and unrefined beginnings. Born in Lebanon, Sylva Yepremain spent many years in Paris, and at the age of 16, moved to Los Angeles. Sylva also received training from her father who was a master jeweler for The Maison Cartier in Paris. Every piece Sylva Yepremain designs is a limited-edition piece that is hand-wrought and handfaceted in Los Angeles. No two pieces will ever be identical.

TODD REED

TODD REED

Designer/Friend Since 2013

Todd Reed has spent his life immersed in art and high craft. His mother, a renowned commercial illustrator, ensured that Todd’s childhood was filled with creative work: painting, drawing, and making things of beauty and functionality. After designing furniture, clothing, leatherwork, sculpting, painting and graduating from culinary school, Reed

became friends with a well-known diamond collector. “He took me under his wing. He showed me the artistry and miniature sculpture that appeared in the rough stones. I realized that my aesthetic was to create jewelry that would push the boundaries of what precious pieces could be, and to merge the freedom of artistic expression with the allure of fine jewelry.”

RENEE LEWIS

RENEE LEWIS

Designer/Friend Since 2003

Renee moved from Ohio to Manhattan in 1980, on her 30th birthday, to pursue her career in the arts. She began making jeweled curtains and architectural projects and used the money she made from these projects to invest in antique jewels. Renee spent several years studying and collecting jewelry of the past and was determined to make jewelry that had never been made before. After collecting numerous small diamonds and jewels that could not

be used in a conventional way, she discovered a unique way to incorporate all of the beautiful stones, in a vessel of faceted cut crystal, thus creating the iconic “shake”. Renee has been creating the “shakes” since the 1980’s, all of which are handmade and one of a kind, using various jeweled combinations. Renee and her team still make jewelry by hand in New York City, using antique stones garnered from antique pieces of jewelry.

PAUL MORELLI

PAUL MORELLI

Designer/Friend Since 2000

Paul Morelli grew up in creative family “with a pencil in his hand.” At a young age, he began working with his father, a theater costume designer, enjoying Sundays with his fashionable grandparents, everyone “dressed to the nines.” After studying journalism, he found himself working in the fashion world of the late ‘60’s and early 70’s. A friend asked him to help with a jewelry commission and soon he was designing his own pieces in his basement, selling them to galleries and at arts and crafts

fairs. He was “discovered” and asked to design a line for Bergdorf Goodman. In the early 1980’’s, he opened his studio in Philadelphia, where all of his exquisite creations are designed and manufactured today. Paul Morelli only uses the very finest raw materials. To this day, most of his designs are created on pencil and paper. His model-makers transform his drawings to prototypes by hand with wax or clay, sometimes aided by computer... always with the most meticulous standards for quality of materials and craftsmanship.

KIMB ER LY MC DO NA L D “A few years ago in 2008, NASA announced the discovery of opal deposits on Mars. Imagine that! Yet my obsession with Opals began long before that out-of-this-world-fact. I was initially drawn to Opals for their intense flashes of color and distinctive patterns. With Opal, it is the color which determines value: the more colors in an Opal, the more valuable the gemstone will be. Those colors run the spectrum from electric greens and blues to intense pinks and oranges and occasionally vivid reds. The Opal group of stones contain 4

Designer/Friend Since 2010 major types: Black, Crystal, Boulder and White/Milk. I find myself inspired by not only the colors…but in the fact, that to this day, we aren’t entirely sure how an Opal is formed. As for superstitions about opals being bad luck, there are several tales about how that myth was started, but being a beautiful extension of the Earth, I don’t feel they carry anything but good energy and mysterious beauty. The only time Opal is unlucky is when you don’t own one.”

MONICA RICH KOSANN

MONICA RICH KOSANN Monica Rich Kosann started creating 18 karat gold and sterling silver lockets, charm bracelets and a broad collection of other fine jewelry because of her belief that every woman has a story to tell. Monica began her career as a fine art black & white portrait photographer, which she continues today, using film and darkroom techniques that are wholly unique in our digital age. The personal nature and heirloom quality of her portraits were an inspiration for her interest in jewelry design, and along the way, she started creating lockets

and charm bracelets to hold special photographs or personal messages. For Monica, the jewelry design process is driven by one question: “Can a woman give this piece of jewelry to her daughter in 20 years?” Monica was awarded the “Rising Star Award for Fine Jewelry” by Fashion Group International in January 2010. She became a member of the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) that same year.

CAROLINE ELLEN

Designer/Friend Since 2001

A New York City native, jewelry designer Caroline Ellen originally planned to study fine arts until she began a career as a model. Inspired by the vibrant creativity of the fashion world, Caroline began to design jewelry. She then studied at the Jewelry Arts Institute in New York, where she learned classical goldsmithing techniques and developed a love for high quality hand-crafted jewelry. Caroline soon developed a large clientele that included artists, models and

photographers and actresses. She designs in 22 and 20 karat gold, and uses diamonds, sapphires, rubies and other precious and semi-precious stones. Caroline is inspired by geometric shapes found in nature and the timelessness of ancient jewelry. For inspiration, she travels to explore jewelry and artifacts in museums around the world. She approaches each piece of jewelry as a small sculpture or work of art. Caroline’s design philosophy is “to find beauty in simplicity.”

Nam Cho had early training in classical violin and fine arts. After graduating from Parsons School of Design, she designed clothing for many of the top American designers in New York. While at their fashion houses, she honed her creative skills in ready-to-wear and accessories and found inspiration in fine jewelry. She felt a lack of intimacy between fine jewelry and fashion and decided to start
