The Perth Motorplex was home for Round 4 of the 2012 Castrol EDGE Sprint Showdown. Qualifying was dominated by internationals, with Dale Grotherr setting fast time over Corey McCullagh, Jay Waugh, Smithers and Sean Dennis. The first of two feature events was headed by Corey McCullagh. As seem in previous rounds of the series, Corey is very tough to beat from the front. He immediately jumped into the lead and would go on to lead the first 12 laps, before contact with a lap car forced him to the infield. Jay Waugh would then inherit the lead, with Dale Grotherr breathing down his
neck. At lap 22 Grotherr made his mode and passed Waugh. Grotherr would go on to take the win, closely followed by Waugh, Bulliman, Harm and Smithers. Feature 2 saw Corey McCullagh start from pole, again. McCullagh would tail off into the sunset as the rest of the field fought for the minors. At the checkers it was McCullagh from Alex Thomson, Mitch Keys, Mitch Harris and Cameron Ginns. Casulties included Josh Harm, Jay Waugh and Dale Grother. All drivers having big tumbles which put them on the trailer.

Thunder Valley Speedway was the venue for Round 5 of the 2012 Castrol Edge Sprint Showdown. 19 cars signed into the pits for the evenings racing. It was Corey McMullagh once again setting fast time. Corey edged Mitch Keys by 2 hundredths of a second and Michael Bulliman by 3 hundredths of a second. That is a perfect example of how competitive the racing has been! Forth quick was Mitch Harris and rounding out the top 5 was Smithers. Heat races were won by Corey McCullagh and Mitch Keys. They would start off the front row of the first of two feature events, who would be followed by a pair of Aussies of Dale Grotherr and Michael Bulliman. As the field took the green, McCullagh instantly broke away with the lead as the rest of the field fought over the minors. Bulliman would find himself in trouble early as he and Aaron Hodgson would make contact.

Midway through the 30 lap race, Corey McCullagh had established a demanding lead as he methodically picked his way through lap traffic. Mitch Keys had also broken away from the pack, holding a comfortable margin over Josh Humble and Smithers. At the checkers, the top 4 remained the same, with Dale Grotherr completing the top 5. Feature 2 was headed by Josh Harm. The field was going to have a tough time beating this Aussie off the front, Harm showing good speed, just not having the luck. Sure enough as the race got underway Harm instantly took the lead and ran away with it. Harm would go on to lead all 30 laps, and win over Tim Redpath, Michael Bulliman, Corey McCullagh and Smithers rounding out the top 5. The series now moves to the turf of the PA Posse, Williams Grove Speedway. The fast and flat fast 1/2 mile is likely to attract a large contingency of American racers, to join the series regulars!

Round 6 of the Castrol EDGE Sprint Showdown headed to the Williams Grove Speedway, located in Mechanicsburg, PA. Many Americans were on hand to defend their home turf, and it meant the series regulars would have to be on their toes to stay up front.
McCullagh led flag to flag demolishing the competition. Second would be TJ Hartman and third would be Christopher Bell.
The second feature race was then won by Keith Fitzgerald. Keith started near the front after a horrible first race, and never looked back taking Time Trials was once again topped by the flying the victory over Michael Bulliman, Smithers, Mitch Aussie of Corey McCullagh. Second quick was Keys and Josh Humble. Christopher Bell, who was then followed by Mitch Keys, Keith Fitzgerald and Michael Bulliman The series now heads to Charlotte, NC before heading to the world famous 1/2 mile in Knoxville rounding out the top 5. Iowa. The championship battle is really heating The first feature race was won by the super up, and its anyones for the taking! smooth and consistent Corey McCullagh.

Charlotte was the location for round 7 in the 2012 Castrol EDGE Sprint Showdown. Eighteen cars lined the pits with a hand full of points separating Mitch Keys and Smithers. Corey McCullagh set fast time in qualifying, who was then followed by Corey Skurr, Mitch Keys, Dale Grother and Azza Humble. The field was then split two ways for the heat races. Heat results would then line up the 1st feature race. Heat winners were Corey McCullagh and Smithers, who would go on to start off the front row for the nights first feature race. Corey got the jump over series contenders Smithers and Mitch Keys, and would instantly break away and continue to grow the margin. The slick track in Charlotte proved to be a real equalizer, with some more of the experienced drivers struggling, and less experienced drivers excelling. Corey Skurr was looking fast all night, and was running great in the feature up until he caught some bad luck and ended up on the infield. Other casualties included championship contender Mitch Keys and Jacob gate who succumbed to suspension damage 5 laps from the finish. Corey McCullagh would walk away from the field, winning by over 3 seconds. Filling the podium was Dale Grotherr and Josh Humble
Feature race 2 would be a top 16 invert, so after the first race shake up, the crowd was in for a treat for Feature 2. As the field took the green flag, Jordin Mitchell jumped out to the early lead. Hot on his heels would be fellow American Rickey Sanders and Kiwi Mitch Keys. The pair were closing in on Jordin very quickly, and an attempted slidejob by Sanders saw Jordin Mitchell upside down, and out of the race! Corey McCullagh was slowly making his way through the field, but by the time he was in the top five the lead pack was long gone. It was down to Mitch Keys and Rickey Sanders to duel it out for the victory. Keys would throw everything at Sanders, but Rickey held on to pick up his first 410 Sprint car win! The finishing order was Rickey Sanders, Mitch Keys, Michael Bulliman, Dale Grother and Corey McCullagh. The series now moves on to Knoxville Raceway, for the series finale. The championship truly is wide open between Mitch Keys and Smithers. Only a handfull of points separate the pair! Fireworks are expected, as the cars will run twin 30 lap features at the iconic venue.

Knoxville Raceway was the setting for the 2012 Castrol EDGE Sprint Showdown series finale! Time trials was headed by Michael Bulliman, who laid down a 15.938. Second quick was Nick Bell-May over Mitch Keys, Dale Grother and Corey Skurr. The field was then split into two groups for the heat races. Picking up the win in Heat 1 was Nick BellMay, and Heat 2 was won by Dale Grother. The pair paced around the full field of cars and took the green to start lap 1 of 30. Grotherr would take the early lead and break away from the pack in dirty air. As Grotherr started hitting lap traffic, Nick Bell-May would begin to reel the Australian in. With 8 laps down, it was Dale Grotherr who found himself out of the race after getting collected by a lap car. Exactly 8 laps later Nick Bell-May had his lead took from him by another lap car. Sixteen laps down in the first feature, it was Smithers leading over Mitch Keys - the two championship contenders going down to the wire! At the post on lap 30, Smithers picked up the win over current #1NZ Mitch Keys. Feature 2 was a full invert from feature 1, so this meant Grotherr would be in the cat birds seat. Smithers and Keys would tag the tail, as a result of finishing up front in Feature One. Jacob Gate and Shane paced the field around for one last time, waiting for the checkers. Corey Skurr, starting out of position 4 leapt to the lead out of turn 4 and never looked back, leading the first 15 laps before Dale Grother would hunt him down and pass him. Grotherr would go on to take the race win, and the championship would go to Mitch Keys. Keys would capitalise on Smithers 12th place finish in the final race, to take the series by 17 points! The small yet powerful Rotorua club claimed the top two placings in the final at the Royal Rampage round 6’s York autograss track as 2nz Cameron “Stockie Nz” Ginns scored both his and the club’s first final win. Current New Zealand modified and sprintcar champion 18r Mitch Keys was second for the third round running. The final grids set top on heat points 1nz Bryce “Harding Jr” Harding off the back on grid 24. Harding then chose the driver to go on grid 23 and that driver chose the grid 22 driver and so on. While a few top drivers ended up off the back, Keys and Ginns sat mid pack as 74p Mitchell “Superstocknut21” Roydhouse led the top 24 around. Roydhouse led the race for just over a lap before being half spun to 19th by the hard charging pair of 91p Andrew “wazzup” McHugh and 55g Craig “DirtyPig” Wire. 7g Liam “Racing_Hart” Clayton claimed the lead as this incident occurred and it wasn’t until a block on lap 13 saw Clayton drop to second as
25
Harding took on the leading role. Two laps later Clayton was back in to the lead as Harding also fell victim to blocking antics. Midway through lap 17 saw Clayton retire from the race after a successful walling by 116a Adam “IBNZ” Ireland. Ginns took over the lead and avoided two malicious attempts by Ireland before succumbing to the third. However, the wide York corners resulted in Ginns returning back to race in fifth with no damage. Several lead changes later, Ginns was back in first with less than a lap remaining and went on to win the final although less a wing. The 300 point win boosted Ginns up to sixth from thirteenth on the series table. Keys stepped up from third to take over the series lead from 691a Nick Bell-May. Bell-May failed to score any points in the final having placed outside of the top 10 and thus relinquished the series lead he established in the opening round at Belle Vue.

91c Harley “KDSR_Harley” Robb was victorious as Owlerton Stadium, Sheffield debuted in Kiwi Superstock racing and kicked off the first of the rounds after the midway point of the Royal Rampage. The 2011 North Island and Wellington champion initially struggled in the round with poor heat results putting Robb ninth equal on points with three others in his group. A third placing in the runoff between the four qualified Robb for the 32 lap final. 1nzg Bryce “Harding Jr” Harding jumped into the lead from a grid two start and went backwards and forwards within the top 3 for all but one lap through out the race while the lead switched between multiple drivers. Harding was yet to record a final win and it looked like the dry run was over as he took over the race lead with 7 laps to go. The laps remaining decreased one by one with Harding in the lead but it was shortly after the drop of the white flag that things went pear shaped for Harding. Robb was nearly half a lap behind and the only other driver on the same lap was current New Zealand Grand Prix champion 46w Keegan Levien. The track was littered with car parts and broken cars. Seven drivers had retired to the pits. Harding navigated past four cars to reach turn one where 46h Josh Humble awaited. Humble’s left turn on to the race line brought Harding to a slow. With Humble hugging the pole line, Harding opted to utilise the space between Humble and the fence. However, Harding failed to gain another speed and was forced into a fence post while on his left two wheels. Harding sat facing the fence as Robb came through underneath to take over the lead. Robb had a clear run for the remainder of the lap to take the final win. Harding eventually crossed second with a 27 second lap and Levien came through for third less a front right wheel. Although not successful with the final win, Harding set the opening lap record for Sheffield of 13.7458 in heat 3 of his group qualifying.

146H Azza Humble secured his first final win in the Royal Rampage in a championship win-less 2012 season so far. With pace setting mid 11 second laps, round 8’s Mildenhall was the quickest track on the calendar. The race start was a bit different this round as qualified drivers lined their vehicles along the home straight wall except for the driver that topped heat points, 9w Jacob “9saldana” Gate. Gate started on the back straight with a perfect 72 points from winning three from three group qualifying heats. Missing from the grid was defending champion and series leader 64GB Ayrton “Smithers 164” Smith. Smith failed to qualify when he retired from the third of his group’s qualifying heats after former leader 691A Nick Bell-May put him over the wall. Humble’s win came as he led 19 laps in three different leads through out the race including the last 13 laps. Five others also shared the lead including 15T Hayden Kirk and 18R Mitch Keys. New Zealand champion 1nzG Bryce “Harding Jr” Harding was rolled out of the final for the second week running. This time by 81S Kieren Johansen as the pair entered the back straight on Harding’s lap 26.

Darley Moor Autograss Stadium in Pennine hosted the last of the three autograss rounds and round 9 of 11 on a realistic wide rough surface. The battle continued at the top of the table as defending champion 64gb Ayrton “Smithers 164” Smith headed into the round as series leader with newcomer 18r Mitch Keys hot on his tail. After the qualifying heats, 41s Jonathan Mason was on pole and 7g Liam “Racing_Hart” Clayton alongside. Smith was in third and benefited from a poor start by the front row to take over the lead going into turn one. Coming around turn four, Smith bounced off 46h Josh Humble and went all the way back to tenth. Two time final winner 91c Harley “KDSR_Harley” Robb took over the lead but suffered a similar fate two laps later at the hands of 17usa Cole Lucas. Smith was eventually back in the lead and proved too fast as blocker 691a Nick Bell-May failed to chase down Smith. Bell-May had a bit more success the second time around and 59g Mathew Greeks joined in as Smith was sent hurtling off the race surface in the same place as earlier in the race.
37
As well as the above race leaders, Superstocks in Paradise Champion 15w Sam Gray, Auckland Champion 15t Hayden Kirk, and 711g Shaun Kingi were three of the eight others that endured brief leads at some point in the race. Keys had the lead heading into the last corner and look set to kick off a decent series lead as Smith circled with damage in non-points positions further down the field. Keys approach of staying out wide to elude blockers didn’t quite work on the last corner as he ended up too wide and 9w Jacob “9saldana” Gate swooped in underneath to take over the lead. Robb and 143c Corey Skurr were alongside Keys as the three exited turn four. Gate crossed the line for the win followed by Keys in second, Robb third, and Skurr fourth. This bunched up the top few points with just the Kings Lynn and Coventry rounds remaining. Keys and Smith were on 1343 and 1333 respectively and a little further back were Kingi (1086), Gate (1065), 146h Azza Humble (1063), and Bell-May (1060).

Just two days remain until the Royal Rampage comes to an end at Coventry Motor Speedway with the double point 72 lap final. The New Zealand break ends two weeks after as Palmerston North holds the opening round of the third running of the Shootout Series. After travelling back and forth over the English countryside for the past 10 weeks, a series win remains within reach of nine drivers following the completion of the Kings Lynn 52 lap final. Kings Lynn’s Norfolk Arena is fenced in by solid steel plate and the 342 metre track’s lap record of 13.5946 was set by Liam Clayton in the 2011 Royal Rampage. 55g Craig “DirtyPig” Wire and 98n Michael Kemp, while out of series contention, chased endurance final win honours and placed first and second respectively after a final lap position

swap. 146h Azza Humble was in third on the same lap and all remaining cars were spread across lower laps. Ten drivers recorded DNFs. The battle between the series top two, 64gb Ayrton “Smithers 164” Smith and 18r Mitch Keys, continued as Smith regained the series lead heading into the final round at Coventry. Smith was at the head of the charge until lap 32 where 46h Josh Humble brought Smith’s momentum to a halt. Smith finished in sixth, four laps down from race winner Wire. Keys failed to place in the final top 10 due to early race damage and relied off meagre heat points to contribute to his series total. Smith was later disqualified from the final for using the infield to advantage by seeking sanctuary from those out to stop him. The disqualification reduced Smith’s lead to just 5 points.

INSPIRE.NET KIWISIMRACING V8 SUPERCAR SERIES ROUND 8
The final round of the InSPire.Net V8 Supercar series was upon us, with a fierce battle on our hands for the minor placings. The drivers headed over to Pukekohe, New Zealand for what is the only NZ Round of the series. With Kyle George already taking out top honours, he wimped out claiming he was too tired to race in the last round. This left SRNZ Drivers Pluck and Harding, to fight it out for 2nd to 6th against KSR regulars Hugh Jarse, Craig Hunton and Blair McKinlay. Early practise sessions promised good things for Pluck and Harding, with Harding eventually taking out Pole Position. However Pluck fluffed his flying lap which saw his worst qualifying effort all year leaving him down the order. Fellow SRNZ Racer Mitch Keys made his way up to Pukekohe as well and showed pace, but was forced to start off the back for both races due to an official decision over a racing incident last week.
was happy to stay in behind and let the other two fight it out for round honours. Keys, again after coming from the back, fought hard and got ahead of Hunton this time round, and was starting to make gains on the leaders. Harding had a lapse late into the first stint allowing Pluck through to put some pressure on Jarse, will Keys and Harding both decided to pit earlier. Pluck and Jarse ran the same strategy pitting two laps later and coming out of the pitlane side by side, but Jarse had the better line going into Turn one to hold off Pluck. However, Harding had a great outlap and pitstop to leapfrog ahead of both of them in the pits and get the lead. From here Harding didn’t look back and went on to take out his first round win, with Jarse, Pluck and Keys fighting hard, but Jarse held on for second, from Pluck and Keys. Hunton came over the line for fifth.
Time for Race 1 to start, and Harding nailed it from the start and got a small but comfortable buffer over Jarse in second. Pluck started making his way through the field but Hunton fought hard for his position, with Gordon also in the mix. Keys made his way through from the back of the pack to be in 6th just after a few laps. Hunton and Pluck continued a very well fought battle with room and respect shown between both drivers, with Pluck eventually getting the upper hand and getting ahead to chase down Jarse. Keys got ahead of Gordon and started putting pressure on Hunton for fourth. However up the front, Harding had it under control and went on to take out a much needed race win, from Jarse in second and Pluck third. Hunton held onto fourth from Keys in fifth.
At the end of the series, all the drivers were relieved it was over and greatful for a well ran series. Some of the driving was the best yet seen with great battles throughout the field all league. We can only but hope the racing standard continues at KiwiSimRacing and that SRNZ is again invited to compete with them in the future. Thanks go to InSPire.Net and Kiwisimracing for hosting the series, as well as the series organisers and runners, Craig Hunton, Hugh Jarse and BK who conducted and ran the nights racing.
Final race of the season and quick number crunching showed Pluck more or less just had to finish to wrap up second overall, while Harding needed a big win to get ahead of Jarse and Hunton on the tables. As the flag dropped, Jarse applied pressure early and got ahead of Harding in the early stages. This quickly became a 3 way battle with Pluck tagging on behind, but
