Brief/Session/Document Title: Album Artwork – Celebration of Hardcore

Brief Design and produce album artwork for a hardcore / metal band of your choice. Utilising the content within the bands ethos is essential, taking crucial elements of songs to form your illustration. Visual consistency is important when creating this work, you will need to make this a key focus throughout. Designing pieces of work that reflect either celebratory deliverables or a re-design of existing pieces of design.

Background / Considerations Contextual research into existing pieces of album artwork, particularly focussing around the existing genre. The artwork should reflect the bands persona, and morals that are encrypted within the composure of each song. Utilising illustration with type and layout is important, as you will need to recognise how the format will dictate the presentation of the imagery created.

Brief/Session/Document Title: LOTR – Illustration & Information

Brief Illustrate and interpret characters and features from J.R.R TolkienĘźs Lord of the Rings. Building up content through visual investigations will allow a good body of work to design with. Produce 4 books focussing around your own practical development and research taken. Using the existing context within the novels and films to develop an informative manual depicting particular realms of your choice.

Background / Considerations An investigation into LOTR content and culture informing your illustrative approach is essential. Existing pieces of design and artwork will allow conceptual awareness. Explore all aspects surrounding the trilogy such as film, books, cartoon, games, toys and accessories.

Brief/Session/Document Title: Comic Book – Artwork and Lettering (Collaboration with Mooney)

Brief Utilise the style of comic book artwork and language to create a set of posters that reflect a chosen set of films. Demonstrate and explore type an image together in order to relate to the audience through visual and typographic communication. This should be a content driven brief, taking aspects and elements from the films in order to create an effective set of deliverables.

Background / Considerations Investigate processes used to produce and distribute comic books. In order to develop a significant understanding of the culture / techniques used. Explore how type and image are used together within this context, to create aesthetically pleasing pieces of work.

Brief Create a visual deliverables that reflect your current direction as a designer and illustrator. As this is a direct brief related around you. There will need to be a sense of what it is you aim to achieve throughout your creative career. Taking products that can easily relate your direction with effective intentions will allow further development into your own identity. Background / Considerations Consider how existing professionals / freelancers have created an alias to design. Utilising a skill set to define their context, pieces of work created and effective promotion. This will allow you to gain a better understanding of the field of design you want to approach.

Brief/Session/Document Title: YCN: UK Greetings

Brief “Design a range of greetings cards� Utilising the context of message reception, and meaningful poetry. You will need to investigate the possible directions in which to take this. Printing processes needs to be considered throughout in order to develop a successful product range. The context in which you choose to work with needs to be clearly indentified and to be separated a product range. Focussing on illustration to create a character base that reflects a chosen theme within the greetings card industry.

Background / Considerations Research into existing printing processes, means of distribution and potential product range is essential. Working with image and type together will be essential in allowing the cards to stand out above the rest. Textiles, pattern work and image reproduction will allow an exploration into potential ideas to become formulated as part of your direction.
