COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP WITH THE GREATER WAVERLY FOUNDATION Heyward Career and Technology Center recently established the "Greater Waverly Foundation Community Garden Project" which is a collaboration designed to create vegetable gardens in the Waverly community. The mission of the Greater Waverly Foundation is "to promote healthy lifestyles through education and training using a holistic approach to individuals and families in Greater Waverly; and to work collaboratively with area organizations in addressing specific issues that impact our communities throughout the Midlands." The initial project will involve two programs at Heyward. The Construction Technology students will design and build the garden boxes which will be placed throughout the community. The Horticulture students will assist with selecting, planting, and cultivating fruits and vegetables. As the program progresses, other Heyward programs such as Culinary Arts, Health Science, Sports Medicine, Marketing, and Media Technology may be added.
