BACKGROUND
The Audley Recreation Centre & Park Complex (ARC) completes a 100 acre sport, recreation, and wellness program in a rapidly developing residential area of the Town of Ajax, Ontario. Immediately south and adjacent to an existing 45 acre sports field complex, the site for the two phase building program is 55 acres – bounded to the north by a busy regional road, and a dense suburban residential area to the west. The ARC was developed as a model for integrating public facilities within the Ajax suburban residential and roads network. The new complex has effectively internalized the traffic and parking functions within the site, presenting a park and park pavilion to the neighbourhood, easily accessed by walking paths.
