Nebraska plans to continue its rise on the Big Ten and national levels on the women’s tennis courts in the spring of 2017. The Huskers, who produced a five-match improvement in the win column with a 17-8 overall record in 2016, must replace a pair of talented seniors in Maggy Lehmicke and Mackenna MaddoxHerr from last year’s squad. Although those two seniors combined for 43 wins in singles and doubles last spring, Nebraska Coach Scott Jacobson said the Huskers are confident that five freshmen and a year of experience for seven returning players can keep the Big Red climbing. “We have a tremendously gifted group of returners from a much-improved program last year,” Jacobson said. “And a group of incoming freshmen who have worked harder at growing their games than any class that we have ever recruited.” The young team will be led by seniors Lisa Andersson and Mary Hanna along with junior Katerina Matysova, who will provide talent and experience to a roster that features a combined nine freshmen (five) and sophomores (four). Andersson will return to the Big Red after playing out of the No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles spot with Lehmicke for the majority of matches in 2016. Hanna enters her final collegiate season with the Huskers after playing all but three singles matches at the No. 2 position last season. Hanna also teamed with sophomore Vasanti Shinde for a 17-4 doubles mark last year. Matysova will return to the heart of the Husker lineup after playing out of the No. 4 and No. 5 singles spots last year. She also was a steady contributor out of the No. 3 doubles position. Matysova enters 2017 with 59 combined victories in two seasons as a collegian. The Huskers will also be bolstered by the return
of sophomores Shinde, Paula Del Cueto Castillo, Elizabeth Gould and Sydney Harlow. Shinde made a big impact at the No. 4 singles position, where she claimed 10 of her 15 total singles wins in 2015-16. As a freshman, Shinde won 33 combined spring matches in singles and doubles for one of the most successful rookie campaigns in Husker history. Shinde spent the fall rehabilitating an injury which could limit her in the middle of the Husker lineups in 2017. However, if Shinde is healthy, the Huskers could field formidable lineups at the national level in both singles and doubles. While Shinde’s status is still a question mark entering the spring, the Huskers have been impressed with the talent and work ethic of their group of five freshmen. M’Balia Bangoura, Hayley Haakenstad, Jeannie Lozowski, Claire Reifeis and Emma Worley come to Nebraska with impressive credentials. They also produced solid results during the 2016 fall schedule. Bangoura, a five-star commit from Bradenton, Fla., joins the 2016-17 roster after being ranked as the No. 50 recruit in the nation. A Florida state singles champion, Bangoura proved herself as a fierce competitor during her first fall of collegiate action when she notched 10 victories. Haakenstad, a native of Chanhassen, Minn., came to Nebraska after being ranked No. 2 in the state in singles in 2014. A six-time all-conference selection as a high school tennis player, Haakenstad was ranked as high as No. 92 nationally in 2015. Lozowski, the second five-star commit for the Big Red, joins fellow Floridian Bangoura among the Husker freshmen. The newcomer from Port Saint Lucie was ranked as high as No. 58 nationally. She opened her college career with 11 victories during the fall campaign.
Reifeis joins the Big Red from Indianapolis, Ind. as the fourth of five freshman. As a four-star commit, Reifeis was ranked as high as No. 94 nationally. Reifeis performed well for the Huskers during the fall, earning the most combined wins among the freshmen with a 14-7 record. Worley joins the Huskers after earning all-state honors in Northville, Mich. She won her only match of the fall season. Nebraska’s returning players and talented newcomers will compete in the state-of-the-art Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center again in 2016-17. The sparkling facility’s championship indoor and outdoor courts are expected to provide the Huskers with an amazing home-court advantage. Last season the Big Red finished 16-3 in the inaugural season of the Dillon Tennis Center. The 2017 Huskers open with a nine-match home stand that runs from Friday, Jan. 27 (Air Force) through Sunday, Feb. 19 (Colorado State). The stand includes matches with UMKC and South Dakota (Jan. 28), Wyoming and North Dakota (Feb. 4), Eastern Michigan (Feb. 10), Creighton (Feb. 12) and Drake (Feb. 17). Nebraska opens Big Ten play on the road at Rutgers (Feb. 22), before returning to the Dillon Tennis Center for five more home matches Feb. 26 (Wichita State and Omaha) through March 11 (Purdue). The Huskers close their 16-match home schedule with four straight Big Ten home matches from March 31 (Northwestern) to April 9 (Ohio State). The Huskers conclude the 2017 regular season with three straight road matches at Michigan State (April 15), Michigan (April 16) and Iowa (April 22) hoping to secure a spot at the Big Ten Championships in Urbana-Champaign, Ill., April 27-30.

Through a belief in one another and a positive approach to competition, we can build meaningful relationships off the tennis court and continue a winning tradition on it.” Entering his 26th season as Nebraska women’s tennis head coach, Scott Jacobson has had his Huskers consistently ranked among the top 75 teams nationally for nearly 20 years, while making regular NCAA Tournament appearances the past decade. A three-time conference coach of the year, Jacobson has guided the Husker program to six NCAA Tournament bids in the past 10 seasons. He also led the Big Red to the Big Ten Conference regular-season title in 2013. From 2010 to 2013, Jacobson’s Huskers produced the most successful stretch in school history, winning 20 or more matches for four straight seasons to advance to four consecutive NCAA tournaments. The Huskers finished No. 16 in the final ITA rankings in both 2012 and 2013, including the program’s first NCAA Sweet 16 appearance in 2013. While the Huskers produced a golden age in the program from 2010 to 2013, Coach Jacobson’s program has been defined by consistent success. In fact, Nebraska produced 17 consecutive winning seasons from 1997 through 2013, with the Huskers producing top-75 final national rankings 15 times. Although Nebraska’s string of winning campaigns came to an end with an 8-17 overall record in 2014, Jacobson is confident the foundation for more future success is firmly in place. Jacobson, who owns 370 victories at the helm of the Huskers, has averaged
nearly 15 wins per season at NU, while laying the foundation for the Nebraska program brick by brick since his first season in 1991-92. Success at Nebraska goes far beyond winning, Jacobson emphasizes excellence on the court, in the classroom and in the community. A shining example of the total-person concept of Nebraska women’s tennis is Mary Weatherholt. The greatest player in the history of the program, Weatherholt capped her record-setting career as a first-team All-American in both singles and doubles. She was the NCAA runner-up in singles in 2013, while teaming with fellow first-team All-American Patricia Veresova to advance to the NCAA Elite Eight in doubles action in 2013. Off the court, Weatherholt claimed one of the NCAA’s top overall honors as a winner of an NCAA Top Ten Award in 2014. She was the Big Ten Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Year in both 2012 and 2013, and she was Nebraska’s Female Student-Athlete of the Year in 2012-13. Weatherholt added a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, while claiming the ITA Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award, which is presented to the nation’s top women’s tennis student-athlete. During his career at Nebraska, Jacobson’s Huskers have earned numerous academic all-conference accolades. Jacobson also guided the athletic career of two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American Imke Reimers. The women’s tennis team also earned the Herman Award four straight years from 2011 to 2014. The award is presented to the NU team with the top overall grade-point average. In 2013, NU had its most successful season to date under Jacobson. The team earned its highest ranking in school history at No. 6 midway through the season before finishing at No. 16. The team went to the school’s first NCAA Sweet 16 and hosted NCAA Tournament first- and second-round matches for the first time in Husker history. Jacobson guided Weatherholt to 208 career combined wins, the program’s first player to reach 200 victories. In addition to their first-team AllAmerica honors, Weatherholt and Veresova earned first-team All-Big Ten accolades, while fellow senior Stefanie Weinstein claimed second-team honors. Nebraska’s 24-6 final record in 2013 included a 10-1 Big Ten mark and the program’s first Big Ten regular-season title in just its second season in the tradition-rich conference. The Huskers’ 2013 season followed on the heels of a 2012 campaign that featured a 24-5 overall record and a 9-2 Big Ten mark in Nebraska’s first year in the conference. Weatherholt, who returned to the court after suffering a knee injury as a sophomore in 2011, again led the Huskers along with Veresova, Weinstein, Janine Weinreich and senior Madeleine Geibert. A three-time all-conference pick both athletically and academically, Geibert established the NU record with 181 combined wins before Weatherholt broke the record the following season. Weatherholt, who earned her first Big Ten Women’s Tennis Athlete-of-the-Year award, also claimed a Big Ten Sportsmanship award. She qualified for the 2012 NCAA Singles Championships for the first time in her career. Jacobson earned Big Ten Co-Coach-of-the-Year honors after leading the Big Red to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. In Nebraska’s final season in the Big 12 Conference in 2011, Jacobson led the Huskers to a 20-win campaign despite dealing with the loss of Weatherholt to a knee injury early in the fall.
NU finished fourth in a loaded Big 12, producing a 7-4 conference mark while qualifying for the their third straight NCAA Tournament. Geibert and Veresova both earned All-Big 12 honors. Jacobson capped his association with the Big 12 Conference by leading seven Huskers to Big 12 individual titles and 26 first-team All-Big 12 awards. In 2010, Nebraska posted the first 20-win campaign in school history, finishing with a 22-6 overall record that included a 9-2 Big 12 mark and a third-place conference finish. Jacobson was named Big 12 Coach of the Year for the second time, while leading the Huskers to their first-ever NCAA Tournament victory with a first-round win over Illinois. Jacobson, who led Nebraska to its first NCAA Tournament with an 18-4 record and a 9-2 Big 12 mark in 2005, was also the 2005 Big 12 Coach of the Year. The 2006 team added a 17-10 overall record while featuring Big 12 Freshman-of-the-Year Kim Hartmann on its way to a second straight NCAA Tournament bid. Before becoming head coach in 1991, Jacobson helped the Nebraska men’s team to an 84-86 record as an assistant from 1979 to 1989. He also spent 11 years as the assistant director of the Tennis and Life Camp in St. Peter, Minn. He has been an employee of the camp for 23 years. In 1995, Jacobson was awarded the David Aasen Award by the staff of the Tennis and Life Camp. The award honors enthusiasm, energy, sense of humor, high standards of sportsmanship, a love of teaching and a genuine concern for others. Originally from Blue Earth, Minn., Jacobson has been involved in many activities in Nebraska. In the past he has been an instructor for the Lincoln Racquet Club and coordinator for the Husker Netters Booster Club.

All-Big Ten Ten honors in 2014, while seven Huskes added academic All-Big Ten accolades in 2015. In his final season with the Jayhawks in 201213, the team went 11-10 and made it to the Big 12 Tournament where they fell in the second round. At KU, his responsibilities included oncourt coaching, organizing travel and aiding in recruiting. His strong ties to the southern states landed standout products for KU during his time on staff. Dalmagro joined Kansas following a very successful playing and coaching career at Division II West Florida. Dalmagro was an assistant coach of both the men’s and women’s teams at UWF prior to joining the KU staff. During his year with West Florida, both teams reached the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament. Dalmagro’s coaching stay at West Florida was brief, but his impact produced one of the most decorated tennis players in school history. Dalmagro had a successful individual career at UWF and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Dalmagro was a member of UWF’s backto-back NCAA Division II Championship teams in 2004 and 2005, and was part of the 2005 Gulf
South Conference Champion team and 2004 Gulf South runner-up squad. Dalmagro’s career was highlighted by All-America honors in 2004 (doubles), 2003 (singles and doubles) and 2002 (singles and doubles). Dalmagro was ranked nationally as high as No. 3 in doubles and No. 11 in singles. Dalmagro saw success off the court while at West Florida, as he helped the Argonauts earn the 2004 National Award for highest team GPA and was named to the Dean’s List. Prior to transferring to West Florida, Dalmagro played at ABAC. At ABAC, he was the NJCAA Player of the Year in 2003 and the individual national champion in 2002. Dalmagro’s tennis coaching experience stretches beyond West Florida. In 2004 and 2005, Dalmagro served as the head coach at the Nike Tennis Camp in Lawrenceville, N.J., and also coached at Abraham Baldwin College in Tifton, Ga., from 2002 to 2003. Dalmagro graduated from West Florida, earning a degree in business administration with a specialization in management. In 2016 he and his wife Karly, welcomed a son, Enzo.
German Dalmagro (pronounced Her-mahn Dal-mahg-ro) is in his fourth season with the Nebraska women’s tennis team in 2016-17. The 2015-16 season saw many improvements assisted by Dalmagro’s coaching philosophy and an upswing in overall team victories for the spring season. In 2014-15, the Huskers produced a fourmatch improvement in the win column from their 2013-14 campaign, which was Dalmagro’s first on the Nebraska staff. With a solid returning nucleus and some talented newcomers, the Huskers hope to make even more improvements while playing their second season at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center in 2016-17. Dalmagro is a former member of the Kansas women’s tennis coaching staff, spending six seasons with the Jayhawks from 2006 through 2013. In his first season with the Huskers in 2013-14, Nebraska claimed its fourth straight Herman Award for the highest team GPA among all Nebraska women’s sports. Shawn Eichorst was recruited and hired by the University of Nebraska in 2012 and quickly displayed an incredible passion for the University and for its student-athletes as well as the State of Nebraska. As the leader of a tradition-rich athletic program with 24 intercollegiate teams, 600-plus studentathletes and more than 325 full-time employees, Eichorst has relied on a strong value system and a student-centered approach to lead the department. Nebraska’s primary mission is to provide student-athletes with the resources and support they need to be successful in academics, athletics and life. The health, safety and welfare of student-athletes are priority one and the essence of every decision made at Nebraska. Since Eichorst arrived in Lincoln, resources and services in every student-athlete support unit have been reviewed, improved and enhanced, including academics, athletic medicine, life skills, nutrition, sports psychology, strength and conditioning and performance/research [Nebraska Athletic Performance Laboratory (NAPL) and the Center for Brain, Biology and Behavior (CB3)]. Eichorst has continued to move Nebraska forward aggressively with several new initiatives to enhance the student-athlete experience. Beginning in the summer of 2015, Nebraska became the first athletic department in the country to offer laptop computers to every studentathlete and created a data analytics department. Husker student-athletes in all sports now receive four-year, full cost of attendance-based scholarships. Nebraska was also the first-known department of athletics to create a post-eligibility opportunity (PEO) program, where every Husker letterwinner who graduates and has exhausted his or her eligibility has an opportunity to pursue either an internship, study abroad or graduate school program valued at $7,500. Nebraska was also one of the first institutions to create a spring service abroad trip, taking a team of student-athletes and staff to Guatemala in 2015 and to the Dominican Republic in 2016. Eichorst is in high demand and has made more than 500 public appearances around the state and country and his monthly radio show and “Connecting on Campus” online column provide opportunities to connect and share the incredible activities, initiatives and accomplishments happening at the greater University and in the department.
As a member of the Chancellor’s Senior Administrative Team, Eichorst maintains a strong connection and collaboration between the University and athletics. A highly respected national leader, Eichorst was appointed in 2015 to the Division I Football Oversight Committee. Most recently, Eichorst was named co-chair of the NCAA Division I Football Recruiting ad hoc working group. He also serves on the Big Ten Conference Program and Budget Review Committee. Eichorst was the first Director of Athletics from any conference to visit the Big Ten Academic Alliance (formerly known as the Committee on Institutional Cooperation) at its Champaign, Ill., headquarters. The Big Ten Academic Alliance is a highly successful academic-based consortium of 15 schools, including all 14 in the Big Ten Conference. Nebraska is leading the Big Ten and the Big Ten Academic Alliance in several areas, including Digital Humanities and head injury research. Under Eichorst, Nebraska has extended its nation-leading total of CoSIDA Academic All-Americans to 327 and its nation-leading total of NCAA Top Ten Award winners to 17. More than 700 awards were presented at the 26th Annual Student-Athlete Awards Show—A Night at the Lied. In 2015-16, 109 student-athletes earned undergraduate or graduate degrees and the Big Ten Conference honored 209 Husker student-athletes with Academic All-Big Ten awards. For the first time in school history, all Nebraska teams had an NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) of 960 or higher and the overall Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 86 percent is the highest in program history. In addition, seven Husker teams (women’s basketball, golf, gymnastics, softball, tennis and volleyball and men’s tennis) had a GSR of 100 percent as reported in the fall of 2015. During Eichorst’s tenure, Nebraska has won three NCAA team Championships, increasing its total to 27. In 2012-13 and in 2014-15, the Nebraska women’s bowling team earned the program’s fourth and fifth NCAA titles, while the Husker volleyball team won the 2015 NCAA Championship, the program’s fourth national title. In 2016, the Husker men’s track and field team swept the Big Ten Indoor and Outdoor Championships and 14 Nebraska teams competed in NCAA postseason action, including bowling, football, volleyball, women’s swimming and diving, wrestling, softball, baseball, men’s and women’s gymnastics, rifle, and men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field. In 2015-16, Nebraska produced 41 All-Americans who won 49 national awards, including 21 first-team honorees. In 2013-14, Nebraska became one of only two NCAA institutions – and the first Big Ten program in history – to qualify for a football bowl game, and advance to NCAA postseason in the major team sports of volleyball, soccer, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and softball. Additionally, Nebraska was the only institution to win a postseason game in six of those seven sports. Nebraska’s fan support continues to be unparalleled in college athletics. In 2015-16, top 15 national rankings for average attendance were reached across 10 sports—football, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, wrestling, soccer, softball, baseball and men’s and women’s gymnastics. Nebraska is the only school in the country to rank among the top 15 nationally in both football and men’s basketball attendance and in volleyball and women’s basketball. A tribute to loyal Husker fans, two sports lead the nation with consecutive home sellout streaks. Football has 354 consecutive sellouts and volleyball has 219 consecutive regular-season sellouts through their 2016 seasons. Under Eichorst’s leadership, Nebraska continues to focus on improving its facilities and the game-day experience at all athletic venues. In August of 2015, Hibner Stadium and Barbara Hibner Field for soccer and the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center were completed. A new center-hung video board and sound system was installed in the Devaney Center in 2015 to improve the game-day experience for volleyball, wrestling and men’s and women’s gymnastics. In 2014, the largest wireless network system at a college football stadium in history was installed in Memorial Stadium, along with a state-of-the-art sound system. In the summer of 2013,
Memorial Stadium expansion added the innovative NAPL inside East Stadium next to the Center for Brain, Biology and Behavior (CB3). That same year, Nebraska’s men’s and women’s basketball teams became the primary tenants at Pinnacle Bank Arena, and the renovated Devaney Center became the home for Husker volleyball, wrestling and the men’s and women’s gymnastics programs. Eichorst came to Nebraska after serving as Director of Athletics at Miami in 2011 and 2012. He hired legendary men’s basketball coach Jim Larrañaga, who led Miami to the NIT Second Round in his first season and ACC regular-season and tournament titles as well and the NCAA Sweet 16 in his second. The women’s basketball program posted its highest national ranking in school history (No. 5) and advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. The Miami women’s tennis team advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight for the fourth straight season, and the baseball team made its 40th consecutive NCAA appearance. The Hurricane women’s soccer team posted its first NCAA Tournament win in school history, and the volleyball team made its third straight NCAA Tournament trip. Before heading to Miami, Eichorst was the Deputy Athletics Director at Wisconsin. He was the Chief Operating Officer and oversaw the department’s daily operations, as well as the men’s basketball program under the direction of Director of Athletics and former Husker Barry Alvarez. From 2004 to 2006, Eichorst served as the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Administration at South Carolina, overseeing the department’s daily operations, as well as the football and baseball programs under legendary coaches Lou Holtz, Steve Spurrier and Ray Tanner, respectively. From 1999 to 2003, Eichorst served as the Director of Athletics at Wisconsin-Whitewater, which produced four top 10-percent finishes in the NACDA Directors Cup, one NCAA team title and two NCAA runner-up finishes. The program also featured 11 CoSIDA Academic All-America selections. A native of Lone Rock, Wis., Eichorst was an all-conference defensive back, three-time letterwinner and 1990 football team captain for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He graduated magna cum laude in business from UWWhitewater in 1990 and in 2015 was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award for Professional Achievement. He earned a law degree from Marquette Law School in 1995, practiced law in Milwaukee until 1999 and is a past member of the State Bar of Wisconsin Board of Governors. He served as an assistant adjunct professor of law at Marquette, where he taught classes in sports law. He serves on the Marquette University National Sports Law Institute Board of Advisors and in 2006, Marquette awarded Eichorst the Sports Law Alumnus of the Year Award. He is also a graduate of the Sports Management Institute and serves on its Executive Committee. Shawn and his wife Kristin have three sons: Jack, Joseph and Bennett.

PAT LOGSDON
Executive Associate A.D./Administration & Senior Woman Administrator A member of the Nebraska Athletic Department since 1979, Pat Logsdon serves as Executive Associate Athletic Director for Administration. She is Nebraska’s Senior Woman Administrator to the NCAA and the Big Ten Conference and serves on the Big Ten Sports Management Council. Logsdon’s duties include oversight on all administrative issues and operational functions of the Athletic Director’s office. She also oversees the areas of Department Travel, including bowl and postseason travel, the Department’s Gender Equity Plan, equipment and serves as a liaison to adidas.
In addition, Logsdon manages student-athlete end of season evaluations and exit interviews. She also serves as the sport administrator for volleyball, beach volleyball, softball and men’s and women’s gymnastics. Previously, Logsdon spent 23 seasons in football operations, including six seasons as NU’s director of football operations, the first female in Division I to serve in that capacity. She handled organization of all recruiting functions, supervised compliance activities and coordinated all football administrative operations, including travel and practice operations. Logsdon earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Nebraska.

Steve Waterfield is in his fourth season ast Nebraska and currently serves a Executive Associate Athletic Director for Performance and Strategic Research.
Waterfield assists Director of Athletics Shawn Eichorst with the administration of the football program and serves as the sport administrator for men’s and women’s tennis. He also oversees athletic medicine, strength and conditioning, sports nutrition, Lewis Training Table, the Nebraska Athletic Performance Laboratory (NAPL) and strategic research and sports analytics. Waterfield is the athletic department liaison to the institution’s Center for Brain, Biology and Behavior (CB3), located in the East Stadium Research Facility. Waterfield joined Nebraska after two years as a senior administrator at Miami. While in Coral Gables, Waterfield oversaw sports medicine, athletic training, strength and conditioning and human resources, and served as the direct sport administrator for the football and men’s basketball programs. Prior to Miami, Waterfield spent seven
years at Wisconsin, serving under Director of Athletics Barry Alvarez as an associate athletic director for student services. Waterfield oversaw compliance, academic services and sports medicine, while also serving as sport administrator for the men’s and women’s soccer and men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs. Waterfield went to Wisconsin after spending five years as an assistant director of compliance at Ohio State. Waterfield holds a law degree, a master’s in business administration and a master’s in sports management from Ohio State and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Kenyon College. He is a member of the Ohio bar and U.S. Federal District Court and worked as an assistant attorney general in the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. Steve and his wife, Jaime, have two sons, Davis and Austin.

Lisa Andersson will lead the 2017 Nebraska women’s tennis team as one of two seniors and three team captains. Andersson showed her valuable experience and leadership skills for the Huskers in invitational play. The senior made a huge impact on singles and doubles competition in all three invitationals the Big Red competed in their fall campaign. The native of Varberg, Sweden has made an
As a junior in 2016, Andersson played out of the No. 2, 3, 4 and 5 spots in the Husker lineup. She accumulated a 10-12 singles mark and went 3-8 in the Big Ten, while earning an 11-9 doubles mark. She went 4-4 in Big Ten doubles play. Andersson played a majority of her matches at the No. 3 spot as a junior, after playing primarily at No. 5 singles as a sophomore for the Huskers. She went 6-8 at No. 3 during the 2016 spring campaign. Andersson teamed up with Maggy Lehmicke and Mary Hanna during the spring season, going 10-9 overall with Lehmicke, including 4-4 in Big Ten action and went 1-0 with Hanna. Off the court, Andersson earned academic AllBig Ten honors and claimed a spot on the 2016 Tom Osborne Citizenship Team. She also was named to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the spring of 2016.

As a sophomore, Andersson continued to make a major impact in the Nebraska lineup, playing in the No. 3, 4, 5 and 6 singles spots during the spring. She gathered a 12-11 singles mark, going 2-9 in Big Ten action while earning an 18-5 doubles mark. She went 10-1 against Big Ten opponents.
Andersson played the majority of her singles matches at the No. 5 spot, accumulating a notable 9-4 mark. Andersson’s efforts were highlighted by her nine-match winning streak between Feb. 8 and March 8, with all but three victories coming in straight sets. Andersson teamed up with Maggy Lehmicke for the majority of the spring season where the duo posted an impressive 15-4 mark, including a 10-1 Big Ten mark. The pair had an eight-match winning streak (March 6-April 3) and posted wins over six Big Ten opponents and three nationally ranked teams. In the classroom, Andersson claimed the first academic All-Big Ten honors of her career. She added recognition on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll for the third time during the 2015 spring semester.
2013-14: FRESHMAN
Andersson made an instant impact on the Husker lineup as a freshman in 2014. She played from the No. 3, 4, 5 and 6 positions in singles and the No. 2 and 3 spots in doubles. Andersson paired with Brittany Brewster for her first two doubles matches at the No. 2 position, before dropping to the No. 3 spot to partner with Hannah Sulz for the remainder of the season. Andersson finished the season with a 6-18 singles record, including a 6-12 spring mark. She went 0-7 in Big Ten matches. She was most successful at the No. 4 spot, where she finished 3-3. In doubles, Andersson put together a 7-18 overall record that included a 5-13 spring showing. She was 0-6 in the Big Ten. Andersson helped the team earn its fourth consecutive Herman Award for the highest cumulative team GPA among all women’s sports at Nebraska. She claimed spots on the Nebraska ScholarAthlete Honor Roll in the fall and spring semesters of 2013-14.

Mary Hanna rounds out the Husker roster as the second of two senior talents and another Nebraska women’s tennis team captain. Coming off of a successful fall invitational season, Hanna enters her spring campaign with the Big Red carrying nine victories, most of which
Hanna has continued to make a substantial impact on the Husker lineup as a junior in 2016. During the spring season, Hanna produced a 9-11 mark playing at the No. 1, 2 and 3 singles spots. She battled to a 1-8 mark against Big Ten foes. Hanna played a majority of her singles matches at the No. 2 position, amassing a 7-10 mark. She was 2-0 at No. 3, and 0-1 at the No. 1 singles spot. A standout on the doubles court, Hanna notched an impressive 18-4 record in the spring, including a 6-4 mark in Big Ten action. Hanna teamed up with Vasanti Shinde to go 17-4 in doubles play, while adding a win in her only match alongside Lisa Andersson. A standout in the classroom and community, Hanna earned academic All-Big Ten honors for the second time in 2016. She claimed a prestigious Nebraska Student-Athlete HERO Leadership Award in 2016, and was a member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team for the second consecutive year.
2014-15: SOPHOMORE
Hanna was a staple in the Husker lineup for the second straight season as a sophomore in 2015. She filled the No. 3 singles spot for NU’s lineup and earned an 8-13 mark, going 3-7 in Big Ten play. She paired with Izabella Zgierska for the majority of the spring season to tally a strong 14-7 record, going 4-7 against Big Ten opponents. With seven straight victories to begin the duo’s spring campaign, the two went on to earn 14 wins, four against tough Big Ten opponents. At the No. 3 singles spot, Hanna rode a fourmatch winning streak from Feb. 13 to Feb. 22, earning wins over Colorado State, Missouri, Wyoming and Illinois State. Hanna and Zgierska drove NU’s doubles success with their impressive performance at the No. 1 spot. Hanna continued her success off the court by earning academic All-Big Ten honors in the classroom. She was also a member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the spring of 2015. She also showed her commitment to the community by claiming a spot on the Tom Osborne Citizenship team, which awards student-athletes who have participated in six or more outreach events while being in good academic and athletic standing.

Hanna broke into the Husker lineup as a regular No. 3 and 4 in singles and No. 1 in doubles. Hanna finished with a 10-21 overall singles record, with a 7-18 spring mark and 2-9 record in the Big Ten. She partnered with captain Maggy Lehmicke the whole season in doubles play. The duo earned a 10-8 spring record and tallied a 2-4 mark in Big Ten play. The pair had a seven-match winning streak from Jan. 31 through March 9. Off the court, Hanna earned spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall and spring semesters of 2013-14 to help the Huskers earn their fourth straight Herman Award for the highest cumulative team GPA among all Nebraska women’s sports.

The native of Erding, Germany produced one of two top fall invitational seasons in 2016, bringing home a total of 14 combined victories in singles and doubles competition over three tournaments. Matysova will continue to build on her experience on the courts and the Husker roster, as she looks to help lead her teammates into another successful season. “Kati has come back her junior year in the best physical condition of her college career,” Head Coach Scott Jacobson. “Kati is quicker than she has ever been and is competing at the highest level of her collegiate career.”

Katerina Matysova returns for the Huskers as the lone junior on the Nebraska women’s tennis team roster. As the third and final upperclassman, Matysova also earned a team captain position alongside teammates Lisa Andersson and Mary Hanna.
Matysova competed out of the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 spots in the Nebraska singles lineup as a sophomore in the spring of 2016. She closed her second full season on the court with a 14-7 singles mark, including a 6-4 Big Ten record. In doubles action, she added a 9-10 overall record that included a 2-8 mark against Big Ten foes. Matysova spent a majority of her time on the doubles court with senior Mackenna MaddoxHerr, posting an 8-8 spring record. Matysova added a victory paired with freshman Sydney Harlow, while going 0-2 alongside freshman Paula Del Cueto Castillo. Off the court, Matysova earned academic AllBig Ten honors and was a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar for the second straight season. 2014-15: REDSHIRT FRESHMAN
Matysova broke into the Husker lineup in her first full season on the court as a Husker, playing out of the No. 4, 5 and 6 singles spots while teaming up with Mackenna Maddox to fill the No. 3 doubles spot. After redshirting her freshman season due to an injury, Matysova bounced back to earn a 12-10 overall singles mark, going 3-8 in Big Ten action. Playing eight matches at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, she went 4-4 and 6-2 at those spots, respectively. Matysova paired up with Maddox for the entire spring campaign, where the Husker duo grabbed an 8-14 overall mark, going 2-9 in Big Ten play. Off the court, Matysova was a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and an academic All-Big Ten selection in 2015.

Matysova joined the Huskers in 2014 as one of six newcomers. She played a handful of matches in the fall, posting a 2-4 singles record and 1-4 doubles mark before suffering a knee injury that kept her out of spring competition. Matysova redshirted in the spring while recovering from her ACL injury. Matysova earned spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall and spring semesters of 2013-14 to help the Huskers earn their fourth consecutive Herman Award for the highest cumulative team GPA among all Nebraska women’s sports.

Matysova won a U21 Regional Championship at the age of 13 going on to reach her highest U16 ranking of No. 11 at the age of 14. In January 2011, Matysova won an ITF tournament in Poland. Paula Del Cueto Castillo will enter her second regular season with the Huskers after having a bright fall invitational campaign. According to Head Coach Scott Jacobson, Del Cueto Castillo is working hard to rehabilitate her body to overcome previous injuries. “If she can find a way to be competing healthy she has the opportunity to greatly enhance our program,” Head Coach Scott Jacobson said. “Paula is a phenomonal doubles player with tremendous instincts. She has a very heavy forehand and a biting slice backhand that is difficult for opponents to handle.” Del Cueto Castillo looks to add on to her short burst of success during her freshman season and return to playing at a high level of singles and doubles competition for her sophomore spring campaign.

Del Cueto Castillo broke into the lineup in her first season as a Husker, playing in the No. 5 and 6 spots while teaming up with fellow freshman Vasanti Shinde at times in the No. 2 doubles spot. Del Cueto Castillo also paired with Katerina Matysova at No. 3 doubles during the season. Del Cueto Castillo finished the season with a 3-2 singles mark, including a victory in her only Big Ten match of the season. Gould went 21-0 as a junior at the Marist School in Atlanta to capture her second individual Georgia state championship. A three-time team captain at the Marist School, Gould was voted team MVP and the singles player of the year following her junior season in 2014. Along with claiming a pair of singles state titles, Gould was also a state runner-up. In addition to earning four letters in tennis at the Marist School, Gould also coached and played for the Universal Tennis Academy for Coach Ross Beall.

Elizabeth Gould returns to the Nebraska women’s tennis program after a solid fall invitational season. The sophomore from Atlanta, Ga., is competing at the highest level of her college career. “Her serve has made tremendous strides as well as her consistency off her backhand side,” Nebraska Coach Scott Jacobson said. “Her greatest strength is her forehand and she has focused on making it more of a weapon by using it on optional balls in the middle of the court. In addition Elizabeth has tremendous composure while competing and never seems to get rattled. On a doubles court she shows good decision making as well as being very instinctive while crossing at the net. She has tremendous upside and we believe the future holds tremendous promise for E.G.” Moving into her spring 2017 campaign Gould will be building off a combined total of five hardfought victories, three of which she obtained this fall. Gould looks to establish a major impact for the Husker tennis team for the 2016-17 year, both on and off the courts.

Sydney Harlow will welcome the 2017 regularseason spring campaign with a combined total of 14 wins for her college career. Harlow earned two of those wins, one in singles and one in doubles, in invitational play this fall. “Syd has improved her mental toughness this fall and her ball-striking skills are impeccable. She has competed very well this fall and her game continues to make big strides,” Nebraska Coach Scott Jacobson. “Sydney is a strong baseliner with good instincts. She also is very quick on the court.” Harlow returns to gain even more valauble action for the Husker tennis team. The lone Nebraska native will push into her second year with the Big Red and three other sophomores to prove a consistent figure in ways of leadership on the tennis courts.

Shinde was even more productive in doubles play, posting an 18-4 mark paired primarily with Mary Hanna. That duo amassed a 17-4 overall mark that included an impressive 6-4 record in Big Ten action. The tandem played all but one match at No. 2 doubles, while playing one match out of the top spot in the doubles lineup. Vasanti Shinde will step into the spring campaign of her sophomore season after continuing to stuggle with injuries throughout the fall. Despite the setbacks, Shinde enters 2017 with a 12-9 record after fall invitational action. Vasanti continues to be a dominating force in doubles play as seven of her 12 victories were earned in doubles play over the course of invitational competition. “She is an incredibly talented individual and we are hopeful those talents will come to fruition this spring,” Nebraska Coach Scott Jacobson said. “Her greatest strength is the heaviness with which she strikes the ball off of both her forehand and backhand side. A great benefit to her is her lefty spin serve as well as her attacking style of play.”

Vasanti Shinde produced one of the top freshman seasons in school history in her first year with the Huskers in 2016. The native of Pune, India, captured 35 combined victories on the year, including 33 during the spring. In singles action, Shinde produced a 15-9 singles record in the spring playing out of the No. 3, 4 and 5 spots in the Husker lineup. She saw a majority of her time at No. 4, going 10-2, while adding a 4-3 mark at No. 5 and a 1-4 record at No. 3 singles. She went 5-5 in Big Ten play.

A five-star recruit from Bradenton, Fla., M’Balia Bangoura joins the 2016-17 Husker roster as one of five freshmen. Bangoura, a decorated junior athlete, was named the Female Athlete of the Year for her academy in 2015 and could be a key component for the Huskers this season. “M’Balia strikes a very clean ball off both sides of the court,” Nebraska Coach Scott Jacobson said. “M’Balia has been well-schooled, plays incredibly smart and truly does have ice in her veins. M’Balia will hit out in pressure situations and never stops believing. In addition, we were very impressed with her playing schedule and the number of tournaments she is constantly competing in. Competing this often is a direct reflection of her passion and desire to grow her game and her understanding of what it takes to be great. We are privileged to have such a gifted young lady so dedicated to the game entering our Husker family.”

HAYLEY HAAKENSTAD Freshman - Chanhassen, Minnesota G18’s doubles, highest ranking in G18’s Northern Section and the sportsmanship award as the USTA Texas closed regional. Voted team MVP by her softball team, Haakenstad also served as lead-off hitter and center fielder for her team’s 2016 class AAAA state softball championship. Haakenstad attained a career batting average of .446 under Head Coach Joe Coenen. An outstanding student, Haakenstad graduated Magna Cum Laude and was 2015 Academic All-State and four-time Academic All-Conference.

Hayley Haakenstad joined the 2016-17 Huskers as one of three recruits from the Midwest. Haakenstad, a freshman from Chanhassen, Minn., was ranked No. 2 in the state in singles in 2014. A six-time all-conference selection as a high school tennis player, Haakenstad was ranked as high as No. 92 nationally in 2015. “Hayley has a unique style of play that is exciting to observe,” Nebraska Coach Scott Jacobson said. “She has the ability to chip and charge, serve and volley, return and volley, draw you forward with a drop shot, and/or remain patient off the ground. Not many entering college tennis in the class of 2016 have the ability and the diversity in their game that Hayley possesses. She is going to be incredibly exciting to coach and work with. In addition Hayley is an amazing person, selfless in nature, yet passionate as a competitor.”

Haakenstad, who was a state champion with both her tennis and softball high school teams, attended Chanhassen High School in Minnesota. Her tennis team won four conference championships under Head Coach Jim Mason, and Haakenstad led as a three-year team captain. Jeannie Lozowski from Port Saint Lucie, Fla., was ranked as high as No. 73 nationally. Lozowski will be a major addition to the Nebraska women’s tennis team. “Jeannie is a really big hitter off both her forehand and her backhand side,” Nebraska Coach Scott Jacobson said. “We were incredibly impressed with her ability to pop her serve and finish off the ground. Her forehand is a tremendous weapon,which allows her to strike a winner from pretty much anywhere off the baseline. There may be only a handful of individuals entering college tennis in 2016 that strike it as heavy as Jeannie does. In addition she is a tremendous competitor, totally committed to the concept of team first. We are humbled by her decision to become a member of our Husker family and are looking forward to a tremendous college career moving forward.”

Claire Reifeis, a native of Indianapolis, Ind., joins the Husker program as one of five freshmen. A four-star athlete and ranked No. 94 in the nation, Reifeis turned down offers from Drake, Cincinnati, Davidson, Denver and Richmond to become a member of the Husker team. Reifeis will help replace the loss of Nebraska’s three seniors Maggy Lehmicke, Mackenna Maddox-Herr and Lauren Wagner. “Claire is going to be a phenomenal addition to our program. She has a tremendous college game, hits a really big ball and has a great mindset. We were really impressed with her temperament when we watched her compete this summer,” Nebraska Coach Scott Jacobson said. “Not only will she benefit us on the singles court, but the doubles court as well. We are not only getting a tremendous tennis player, but a wonderful person as well.”

Emma Worley was a three star recruit and was named to the 2015 girls’ all-state tennis team by the Michigan High School Tennis Coaches’ Association. Worley could be formidable competitor for the Huskers. Worley participated in one doubles match during invitational action with the Big Red. Worley and her doubles partner Elizabeth Gould captured a 6-4 win over Anna Collins and Tiffany Huber of Louisville during day one of the Missouri Invitational. “Emma reached out to our Husker family and we were incredibly impressed first and foremost by the person that she obviously was and her tremendous desire and passion for the game,” Nebraska Coach Scott Jacobson said. “In addition it was evident by her results in college ITA segments over the summer that the upside for Emma was tremendous. She has had some very impressive results against both players already competing at the Division I level and those entering college in 2016. On her visit, it was evident that she fits the mold perfectly as to what we desire in a student-athlete here at Nebraska. Emma is a “teamer” through and through. As for her style, she is a grinder off the baseline, with tremendous temperament and a never give up attitude. She is going to be a tremendous asset and competitor for our Husker family and we couldn’t be more proud of her decision to join our Husker family.”

Maggy Lehmicke, Nebraska’s top singles competitor, completed a solid Husker career with 135 combined victories. In her final season on the court for the Huskers, the 2016 senior from Kirkland, Wash., went 13-10 at the No. 1 singles spot. Lehmicke also paired with Lisa Andersson to compete at the No.1 doubles position, closing the spring with a 10-9 record.
The Nebraska women’s tennis team showed more progress in its climb back to national prominence in 2015-16. The Huskers, who finished with a 17-8 overall record, notched five more victories than the 201415 campaign, while also moving into their new home at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center. Nebraska’s new on-campus home features world-class competitive and training facilities, including six indoor courts and 12 outdoor courts with championship lighting conditions and Olympic-caliber surfaces. The courts also provide premier seating for 1,400 spectators and outstanding views for many more. Among the most impressive accomplishments for the 2015-16 Huskers was a six-match home winning streak to open the season at the Dillon Tennis Center. After falling to No. 32 Wichita State on Feb. 13 to snap the streak, the Big Red responded with 10 consecutive home wins to improve to 17-2 overall heading into the month of April. The only other loss for the Huskers in the first three months of 2016 was a road setback at No. 52 Purdue on March 5. During Nebraska’s 17-2 surge to open the season, the Huskers knocked off No. 71 Wyoming (Feb. 7) and No. 62 Minnesota (March 25) at the Dillon Tennis Center, while the Huskers rose as high as No. 69 in the national rankings.
Three seniors fueled Nebraska’s continued climb on and off the court in 2015-16 Maggy Lehmicke and Mackenna Maddox-Herr were among Nebraska’s top players on the court, Lauren Wagner starred in the classroom and the community while contributing to NU’s solid leadership on the court. Lehmicke, a four-year starter in the Husker lineup from Kirkland, Wash., compiled a solid 13-10 record at No. 1 singles for the Huskers as a senior. She added a strong 10-9 mark with partner Lisa Andersson at No. 1 doubles for the Big Red. Lehmicke put the finishing touches on a career that included 135 combined victories (74 singles, 61 doubles). She also earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism in May of 2016 as a threetime Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and a threetime academic All-Big Ten selection. Maddox-Herr completed her second season with the Huskers by going 8-7 in spring singles actiona and 11-9 in doubles play. She was also a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and academic All-Big Ten choice in 2016. Wagner was a three-time academic All-Big Ten selection and joined both Lehmicke and MaddoxHerr as members of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team in 2016. FRESHMAN SHINDE PLAYS BIG FOR BIG RED and Lisa Andersson continued to strengthen the foundation for future growth at Nebraska. Hanna went 9-11 in spring singles play, primarily out of the No. 2 spot in the lineup, while Andersson notched a 10-12 singles mark mainly out of the No. 3 position. While Andersson and Lehmicke led the Huskers at No. 1 doubles, Hanna teamed with fantastic freshman Vasanti Shinde at No. 2 doubles. The duo amassed an impressive 17-4 dual mark in the spring. Shinde added a strong singles debut that included a 15-9 dual record primarily in Nebraska’s No. 4 singles spot. Overall, the freshman from Pune, India, totaled 18 doubles victories, produced 33 combined wins in the spring - the most since first-team All-American Mary Weatherholt won 34 combined matches as a freshman in 2008-09. For her performance, Shinde was honored as the Big Ten Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week on March 8. She was the first Husker to earn a
conference weekly honor since Weatherholt in 2013. Katerina Matysova also enjoyed a breakout season for the Huskers. The sophomore posted a 14-7 spring singles record, including a 6-4 Big Ten mark. She also teamed with Maddox-Herr for an 8-8 doubles record at No. 3. Overall, Matysova claimed 23 combined wins in the spring of 2016. The Huskers continued to shine as a team off the court as well. Every member of the squad earned spots on the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team for their commitment to community service. Matysova was Nebraska’s choice for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, while Hanna claimed a prestigious Nebraska Student-Athlete HERO Leadership Award in 2016. In addition, all 11 members of the team earned at least one spot on the Nebraska ScholarAthlete Honor Roll for their achievements in the classroom. Six more claimed academic All-Big Ten honors, including Andersson, Hanna, Lehmicke, Maddox-Herr, Matysova and Wagner.

The 2012-13 Huskers put together the most successful campaign in program history, finishing with a 24-6 record and a 10-1 mark in the Big Ten. The team won its first Big Ten title as co-champions of the regular season with Michigan. Nebraska also advanced to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. THIS IS NEBRASKA WOMEN’S TENNIS The Nebraska Women’s Tennis Program welcomed the dawn of a new era in 2016 with the opening of the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center on the University of Nebraska campus. The Dillon Center features world-class competitive and training facilities to put the Husker program on track to compete with the nation’s best. The complex showcases 12 outdoor and six indoor courts, while featuring combined seating for 1,400 spectators.

The Nebraska women's tennis program entered a new era in 2015-16 with the move into the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center. Located just north of Nebraska’s Innovation Campus, the elite practice and competition facility will rank among the nation’s best. The indoor facility also has coaches offices, spacious team locker and meeting rooms, and convenient athletic medicine areas. The indoor and outdoor tennis areas of the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center also feature combined seating for 1,400 spectators and plenty of more space for fans to stand and cheer on all the Huskers. The world-class facility should help the Husker tennis programs continue their rise in national prominence in the years to come.

The Nebraska volleyball team captured its fourth NCAA title with a win over Texas in the championship match at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha on Dec. 19, 2015. Five Husker volleyball players, including NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player Mikaela Foecke, earned All-America honors in 2015. Volleyball’s championship was the first of seven top-10 NCAA team finishes for Husker programs in 2015-16.
Ryan Boldt helped the Huskers advance to the 2016 NCAA Tournament. The two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American was chosen in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays.
Tierra Williams earned a trio of All-America awards in 2016. She finished fifth in the triple jump at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships. She also swept the Big Ten indoor and outdoor titles in the triple and long jumps.
Nick Percy captured the 2016 NCAA discus crown. The twotime All-American from Ventnor, England, also won the Big Ten discus title to help the Husker men sweep the Big Ten indoor and outdoor championships.
MJ Knighten claimed first-team All-America honors at third base while helping the Nebraska softball team advance to the 2016 NCAA Regional final. Knighten hit .376 with 21 homers and 60 RBIs in 55 games.
Julia Bond earned first-team AllAmerica honors by leading the Nebraska bowling team to an NCAA runner-up finish in 2016. Bond was the Most Outstanding Bowler in powering NU to the 2015 NCAA team title.

The Nebraska men’s track and field team swept the Big Ten indoor and outdoor titles, giving the Big Red their first sweep since 2004. A total of 19 Huskers combined for 24 All-America awards in men’s and women’s track and field in 2016.

M. BASKETBALL 11TH TJ Dudley (184 pounds) took second at the 2016 NCAA Wrestling Championships. NU’s Male Athlete of the Year, Dudley helped the Huskers to eighth place for their 20th top-10 team finish in history.
Kadie Rolfzen captured first-team All-America honors as an outside hitter while leading the Nebraska volleyball team to the 2015 NCAA title. Rolfzen, a three-time All-American, was Nebraska’s Female Athlete of the Year.
Shavon Shields earned secondteam All-Big Ten honors after averaging 16.8 points and 5.1 rebounds in 2015-16. Nebraska’s Male Student-Athlete of the Year, Shields was a two-time first-team CoSIDA Academic All-American.

ATHLETIC MEDICINE Providing expert care to more than 600 Husker student-athletes, Nebraska features one of the most well-trained and highly skilled athletic medicine staffs in the country. Under the guidance of Director of Athletic Medicine Dr. Lonnie Albers and Head Athletic Trainer and Physical Therapist Jerry Weber, the 2016-17 Nebraska athletic medicine staff consists of five doctors, 13 full-time athletic trainers, seven graduate assistant athletic trainers, a full-time in-house athletic psychologist and sports psychiatry consultants who work directly with student-athletes. Nebraska’s medical facilities have long been among the nation’s best, and NU’s athletic medicine center within the Tom and Nancy Osborne Athletic Complex will keep the Huskers on the front line of technology for decades to come. In addition to Nebraska’s North Stadium facility, Haymarket Park, the Bob Devaney Sports Center, Pinnacle Bank Arena and the Nebraska Soccer and Tennis Complex all feature athletic medicine areas. The Devaney Center’s Athletic Medicine facility underwent an extensive expansion as part of the Hendricks Training Complex addition in 2011.

NAPL: INTEGRATING SPORT
The Nebraska Athletic Performance Laboratory (NAPL) is recognized as the first performance research center within a collegiate department of athletics. The NAPL features a talented, multidisciplinary team that includes a full-time director and endocrinology lab director, two research post-doctoral fellows and a research analyst. Located in East Memorial Stadium adjacent to UNL’s Center for Brain, Biology and Behavior (CB3), the NAPL collaborates with Nebraska’s Strength and Conditioning team, Husker Nutrition staff, Nebraska’s Athletic Medicine staff and sports programs to offer the highest level of integration of sport performance technologies and systems. The NAPL is made up of the Mark and Debra Classen Cardio Area, James and Karen Linder Dynamic Performance Center, Markin Family Collaborative Center, Thayer Family Athletic Research Lab and cutting-edge equipment donated by the Suzanne and Walter Scott Foundation. The main entrance for the research facilities is located in the Janet and Gerard Keating Family Concourse. Focused on student-athlete health, safety and welfare, the NAPL is a world-leading research and performance facility focusing on the performance enhancement, safety and long-term well-being of student-athletes. The NAPL includes simulated athletic environments for studying performance, incorporating a camera system to track human movement in 3D, force plates to measure ground reaction forces and state-of-the-art technology to assess physiological biomarkers, investigate exercise cardiovascular capacity and measure body composition. All 24 Husker athletic programs conduct performance testing at NAPL. Force plates and motion capture videos (3D) are used to measure athletes in their development through testing results to create an athletic performance index for each athlete. The NAPL uses IDexa as an advanced, accurate and reliable method to analyze and measure body composition. The focus of the Thayer Family Athletic Research Lab is recovery from competition by measuring salivary biomarkers 24 hours prior to and 24 hours post-competition. Collaborative research projects are conducted in conjunction with the Center for Brain, Biology and Behavior (CB3), including concussion prevention, treatment and return to play.

ACADEMIC SUCCESS Nebraska increased its nation-leading total of CoSIDA Academic All-America awards to 325, adding five Huskers in 2015-16. Senior guard Shavon Shields (Olathe, Kan., Biological Sciences) earned his second consecutive first-team Academic All-America award in men’s basketball before being named Nebraska’s Male StudentAthlete of the Year. Shields (pictured right with Director of Athletics Shawn Eichorst) was also a member of the Allstate NABC Good Works Team for his outstanding community service. He was joined by Nebraska Female Student-Athlete-ofthe-Year Mattie Fowler (Tucson, Ariz., Finance) as a first-team Academic All-American in 2015-16. Fowler (pictured below) was the President of the Nebraska Student-Athlete Advisory Board in 2014-15. She and Shields were Nebraska’s Big Ten Medal of Honor winners in 2015-16. The Nebraska men’s track and field team continued its extraordinary run of CoSIDA Academic All-America success with three-time first-team honoree Levi Gipson (Lincoln, Neb., Nutrition, Exercise and Health Science) and fellow first-team award winner Cody Rush (Grand Island, Neb., Nutrition Science). Rush, who earned second-team CoSIDA Academic All-America accolades in 2014, joined baseball outfielder Ryan Boldt (Red Wing, Minn., Nutrition Science) as a two-time honoree. Boldt also earned third-team recognition in 2015. Graduation is the ultimate achievement, and 109 Husker student-athletes earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in three commencement exercises at Pinnacle Bank Arena in 2015-16.
A total of 109 Nebraska student-athletes earned their degrees in 2015-16, including 62 in May 2016, 39 in December 2015 and eight in August 2015. Maggy Lehmicke (above right) earned her bachelor’s degree in May as a journalism major at Nebraska. A four-year contributor on the court, Lehmicke was a three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, a three-time academic All-Big Ten selection and a two-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team. Lauren Wagner (above left) was also a three-time academic All-Big Ten selection as a marketing major at Nebraska before graduating in May of 2016. Nebraska student-athletes regularly earn prestigious postgraduate scholarships from the Big Ten and NCAA. That tradition continued in 2015-16, as two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American Cody Rush earned a $10,000 Wayne Duke Postgraduate Scholarship from the Big Ten before claiming an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship worth $7,500. Rush was also an 11-time All-American.
In 2015-16, 109 Huskers earned their college degrees including senior track and field standout Levi Gipson. Gipson became just the second three-time first-team CoSIDA Academic All-American across all sports at Nebraska, while adding prestigious NCAA and Big Ten Postgraduate scholarships worth a total of $15,000. Gipson was also a seven-time All-American.
Junior outfielder Ryan Boldt earned his second CoSIDA Academic All-America award in 2016, after helping the Nebraska baseball team to the NCAA Tournament. Boldt, who was a member of the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List, was a secondround pick of the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft.

Featuring one of the most innovative and comprehensive academic support systems in the country, Nebraska is dedicated to helping its student-athletes become outstanding leaders in their chosen fields. The academic support team is composed of 14 full-time staff members and is certified by the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A) as meeting the standards established by the N4A.
ACADEMIC COUNSELING
Seven academic counselors, three learning specialists and two assistant academic counselors are in place to monitor daily academic progress, receive consistent course feedback, assist with the advising/registration process and monitor continuing eligibility and progress toward graduation.
TUTORIAL SUPPORT
A tremendous resource for all academic abilities, unlimited tutorial support from approximately 120 tutors on staff is available from day one up to college graduation in all subject areas. The tutorial program is certified as a model tutoring program by the College Reading and Learning Association.
STUDY HALL
Nebraska’s study hall program is housed in the D.J. Sokol Enrichment Center within the Student Life Complex. Student-athletes attend a supervised, flex-time study hall that features day, evening and weekend hours. Student-athletes are required to complete a specific number of study hours each week as determined by their academic counselor and/ or coach. Additional performance-based or tutor-based study hall also may be determined by the academic counselor.
MENTORING
Academic support staff serve as mentors to all incoming student-athletes and a select group of returning student-athletes. Student-athletes meet with their mentor weekly to develop time management skills, gather and report academic progress information, and discuss academic success strategies.
EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENTS
Assessments are administered upon the request of the student-athlete, academic counselor, or coach. Learning specialists are available to administer and score informal assessments, which include a reading comprehension and a writing assessment. When more in-depth assessments are necessary, referrals are made to a consulting psychologist who conducts the assessments. If it is determined a student-athlete has a learning disability or another medical condition that impedes the student from reaching their academic potential, appropriate accommodations are implemented by the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities.
STUDENT-ATHLETE ORIENTATION
Each new student-athlete attends an orientation at the beginning of their academic career. Student-athletes are introduced to staff, faculty, administrators, and a variety of resources that help facilitate the transition into college while enhancing awareness of support services in the Athletic Department and across campus.
PERSONAL COUNSELING
Student-athletes will find a supportive and caring environment at Nebraska. Transitional issues, stress management, time management, academic focus and problem resolution are all addressed in a proactive manner throughout the year. If necessary, counseling referrals are also made to designated practitioners.
COMPUTER RESOURCES
The Herman Student Life Complex has two computer labs available for student-athletes. The Scott Technology Center features two tech tables for use on group computer projects and group study sessions. Additionally, each student-athlete is provided a laptop for use throughout their academic career at Nebraska. Construction was completed in the fall of 2010 on the Nebraska Student Life Complex, which nearly tripled the size of NU’s previous academic space. The Dick and Peg Herman Family Student Life Complex also features a new technology center and a dedicated Life Skills area and the Papik Computer lab (left). NEBRASKA LIFE SKILLS In May of 2016, 20 Husker studentathletes, a Nebraska letterwinner alum and and four staff members participated in a service trip abroad to the Dominican Republic. The Huskers spent time with members of the community of Las Pajas to create a local sports court and create a mural at a community center.
In August of 2014, the NCAA Division I Board of Directors restructured the way member institutions and conferences, including the Big Ten, govern themselves. Nebraska has a great history and tradition of providing unmatched benefits and support to studentathletes. However, this change in governance, and subsequent legislation, paved the way for Nebraska to enhance the benefits and experiences for student-athletes. A few examples of these enhanced benefits are: • All scholarship student-athletes across all sports have their scholarship calculated based on the full cost of attendance. • Each student-athlete is offered an Apple MacBook Air laptop computer to enhance their learning opportunities. • Nebraska has increased resources and support in all academic and performance related areas including but not limited to Academic Services, Life Skills, Athletic Medicine, Athletic Training, Strength and Conditioning, Nebraska Athletic Performance Laboratory, Nutrition and Dining Services (Training Table) and Sports Analytics. • Nebraska created the first-known Post-Eligibility Opportunity (PEO) program, where every student-athlete graduate who has exhausted their athletic eligibility has the opportunity to pursue (with Nebraska support) an internship, participate in a study abroad program or attend graduate school.

LIFE SKILLS AWARDS
Mary Hanna captured a prestigious Nebraska StudentAthlete HERO Leadership Award as a junior in 2016. The award is presented to NU’s most committed student-athletes to community service across all sports. A two-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team in 2016, Hanna is also a two-time academic AllBig Ten selection.

EXPERIENCE THE WORLD SERVICE TO A MUCH LARGER COMMUNITY
The Nebraska Life Skills program offered its second service trip abroad in 2016, taking 20 student-athletes to the Dominican Republic to help the community of Las Pajas. NEBRASKA LIFE SKILLS
Regarded as the premier and most comprehensive Life Skills program in college athletics, the Husker program is committed to providing proactive education, resources and support throughout college and beyond, promoting total person development and preparation for life after sports. Five full-time staff members coordinate a wide array of services benefiting Husker student-athletes.
PROACTIVE EDUCATION
The Life Skills team organizes several orientations aimed at acclimating student-athletes to college life. Additionally, all incoming student-athletes attend the fall semester Husker Life Seminar. This interactive class promotes responsible decision-making, personal brand, financial literacy, leadership, involvement and service.
INDIVIDUAL MEETINGS
Every Nebraska student-athlete is assigned a Life Skills Coordinator who arranges individual meetings during the academic year to enhance personal and career development. The meetings help student-athletes identify a career focus and implement a plan to increase career marketability.
CAREER COMMITMENT
Annually, Nebraska Life Skills organizes a Student-Athlete Career, Networking Night and other career events aimed at connecting Huskers with companies desiring competitive, hardworking, accountable candidates. Athlete Network and Husker Hire Link provide opportunities to explore career opportunities across the country.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Nebraska student-athletes readily accept the role-model challenge, giving more than 2,500 hours annually to impact 25,000 across Nebraska. Outreach events include hospital visits, mentoring, school assemblies, statewide rallies (including the Sportsmanship 4 Life Pep Rally, Make-A-Wish, NFL Play 60 and Husker Heroes.
LEADERSHIP
Nebraska Life Skills provides student-athletes with opportunities to enhance leadership skills while distinguishing themselves from the competition. Student-athletes can participate in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Uplifting Athletes or Husker Distinction Council. UNL offers more than 600 recognized student organizations allowing athletes to collaborate with campus leaders for common goals. Nebraska Life Skills funds and coordinates an annual oneweek service abroad trip that allows 20 studentathletes to work toward a common goal while enriching cultural competencies.
RECOGNITION
In 2015-16, a record 347 Husker student-athletes were named to the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team for completing a minimum of six service projects in the calendar year. A host of other recognition opportunities at the institutional, Big Ten and NCAA levels that all reflect the high ideals, character and servant leadership nurtured through community involvement also are available.
POST-ELIGIBILITY OPPORTUNITIES
SUCCESS IN COMPETITION, CLASSROOM, COMMUNITY
The Husker men’s and women’s tennis teams have been two of the highest performing programs academically at Nebraska for decades. The men’s team under the direction of Coach Kerry McDermott has captured back-to-back Herman Team GPA awards for producing the highest cumulative grade-point average among all of Nebraska’s men’s teams. The men have won the award nine times since its inception in 1994. Coach Scott Jacobson’s women have added seven Herman awards with their most recent honor coming in 2014. The 2014 award capped a string of five consecutive Herman Team GPA honors for the women’s tennis program.
Effective December 2015 and beyond, studentathletes who letter and graduate have a three-year window to benefit from one of three post-eligibility opportunities ($7,500 each). Upon completion of required seminars, graduates can either study abroad, complete an internship or begin graduate school within the University of Nebraska system.
DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION
The Life Skills program is responsible for all Diversity and Inclusion initiatives for Husker Athletics. The first Diversity and Inclusion Summit occurred in January of 2016 and reached all student-athletes and staff with a message of acceptance and unity.

BIG TEN ACADEMIC ALLIANCE (BTAA)
As a member of the Big Ten, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) is a member of the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA), formerly the Committee on Institutional Cooperation, which is the academic consortium of the universities in the Big Ten Conference. The consortium was renamed on June 29, 2016. The BTAA includes all 14 Big Ten Institutions and the University of Chicago. The Big Ten Academic Alliances and the institutions together have annual research expenditures topping $10.2 billion — more than the Ivy League and the University of California System combined — and they educate a total of nearly 600,000 students with approximately 50,000 full-time faculty members.

CHAMPIONS IN ATHLETICS, ACADEMICS, LIFE The Nebraska women’s tennis program has established itself as a national contender. In 2013, the Huskers advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 and played host to the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament for the first time. It was Nebraska’s sixth NCAA appearance in an eight-year span. Coach Scott Jacobson is in his 26th season as the winningest coach in Nebraska tennis history. He helped 2013 All-American Mary Weatherholt to a secondplace finish at the 2013 NCAA Singles Championship. Weatherholt added an NCAA Elite Eight finish alongside fellow 2013 All-American Patricia Veresova in doubles. Weatherholt also captured Nebraska’s nation-leading 17th NCAA Top Ten Award, after being named Nebraska’s Female Student-Athlete of the Year.
