HONEY HOUSE - Facade Concept
The Apiary project references its nuclei species in its facade through a perforated metal sheet in the shape of a bee wing pattern.
05
HONEY HOUSE
'Honey House' is a proposal for a site in Canterbury, Kent that includes a vacant landscape where production is needed to take place per the brief's depiction. The project includes an apiary system, a headquarters building where harvested honey across the field is filtered, distilled, infused and packaged for distribution.

LongportCarPark, Canterbury,Kent CT11PF,UK
The site existed as a car park that faces St. Augustine's Abbey - one of Canterbury's historic treasures with remains still standing today, visited by tourists and locals. ‘Longport’ street was derived from its historic backgrounds of previously holding seasonal market sales - part of this proposal's brief is to allow residents and visitors to experience Canterbury’s heritage and connect with its history. Considering current planning policies prohibiting the construction of any buildings on the Abbey's premises, the car park is the next best strategic location for reviving this part of Canterbury through commercial, residential and heritage attraction. [Figures 1-4] demonstrate the vehicle heavy nature of the site which is a target to achieve in reducing CO2 emissions through reducing vehicle dependency.

SITE STUDIES: AXONOMETRICS
34
Emphasizing the shared reception space between the market and restaurant - showing how colour is used to distinctify regions instead of walls and seperations. Moving parts like the front elevation, market ladder and dumbwaitors show that the space transforms and can exist in various contexts - one for a busy lively market, another for a sensory cultural dining experience - all while maintaining the privacy and quiet of a private living space upstairs.
LONG SECTION 35
PLANS
Perspectives show the noodle bar in use as it interacts with the architecture through the moving dumbwaiter that takes the food upstairs quickly to maintain its hot temperature.

SHORT SECTION: NIGHT VIEW
This sectional perspective at a night view’s render displays how the building functions in the evening in its duplicitous nature of being an ambient and lively noodle bar and a quieter residential space above. The section captures different user experiences with the building including double height spaces and more private stair access routes.

This creates a systemic routine for weekly market installments that allows easy preparation and clear up because the building is designed to for the tents to be erect. The axonometric also demonstrates vehicle access for delivering weekly food orders for the restaurant and imported goods for the vietnamese market. This allows for easy accessed delivery and collection. The two prominent staircases are seen in theproposalexistingtoservetheirrespectivefunctionswithonebeingskeletal, openandofcharacterto show customers going up and down the noodle bar floors - the other takes a solid form to emphasize privacyandtoalludethatitbelongstoaprivateresidentialpartofthebuilding.
